Quick Tips

Why does it take so long?!

Windows XP users are familiar with Disk Cleanup. The handy utility does well to clean out your temporary files and free up some disk space, but have you ever noticed that sometimes it takes a ridiculous amount of time to finish?

Disk Cleanup tends to hang up on the screen where it says:
“Disk Cleanup is calculating how much space you will be able to free on (C:).
This may take a few minutes to complete.
Scanning: Compress old files”

Now, why would I want Disk Cleanup to compress files when I know there's more than enough space on my hard drive? Wasn't file compression relevant when we only had an 8 or 10 gigabyte drives? I've got 160gb to play with!

What if I told you that this can be fixed, and you'll never see Disk Cleanup trying to compress files ever again? Better yet, what if I told you that Microsoft can fix it for you?
If you're tired of how long it takes Windows XP to do a Disk Cleanup then follow the link below and choose “Fix it for me”.

Happy cleaning!

"Just Two Weeks, And I Feel Better Than Ever!!"

Amazing Program Helps You Lose Weight!!

AND

Get In Shape!

Special One Day Sale

Today Only (05/11/09) Just $9.97!!!!!!

Did you know that if you were born before 1930, you have already lived past the life expectancy age at the time of your birth? We have got to stay healthy if we are going to live longer, more fulfilling lives!

I can hear your right now probably saying to yourself, " doesn't staying healthy require expensive doctor visits, a nutritionist, and pricey gym memberships?" Nope! Not with the help of the fabulous software that we found for you today! It is called Personalized Health Watch, and with this glorious program you will get healthy and stay healthy without the expense of doctors and nutritionists. In fact, this program is so good that it is trusted by registered dietitians!

Wow! this program is so easy to set up and start using. In a few moments, you will be able to create your own personal profile. And when I say moments, I really mean moments. I filled out a short questionnaire asking for my name, age, weight, body build, gender, and family history, and I was all set to begin monitoring my health! What this profile does is allow you to create a health profile that is taylored to your body and lifestyle. Normally, these kind of taylor-made profiles could put quite the hole in your pocket! But not with this wonderful program! I was just blown away!

I love the fact that this great program is taylored just for me. With this program, I am able to monitor my blood pressure and daily workouts as well as my sodium intake to make sure that I am getting both the exercise and nutrition I need to stay healthy. Plus, it points out the areas where I need to be extra careful, whether it is with my cholesterol or my weight! Yes, this program is that good!!! You gotta check it out!

Oh, and another feature I love is the extensive food database. It even has stored in it the sodium content of my favorite fast food sandwiches. So, when I go to McDonald's in the morning on my way to work and splurge on my Sausage McMuffin, I can find the exact sandwich within the database and mark it on my food log! This really makes cheating on a diet hard!!! But for those of you who are good about staying away from fast food, this extensive data base has pretty much every food that I could think of stored in it (from Avocado to Zucchini Bread!)!! If you eat it, you will be able to find it in the food log section!

Another great thing about this program is that it has a wealth of knowledge and facts built into it. There are several charts and graphs which will give you quick references to life expectancy ages to ideal heart rates while exercising. In addition, there are a ton of interesting noteworthy facts listed on the page, which really provide great insight to our health. Oh- and I can't forget to tell you that this section even has awesome audio. All you have to do is click the button and a voice will explain the significance of a graph or fact, ultimately giving you a great depth of knowledge!

I have been "testing" this program for about 2 weeks now. Everyday I monitor my food intake, my exercises, and my blood pressure. In addition, I started taking a daily multivitamin! And let me tell ya, not only am I noticing that I am eating healthier and sticking to my exercise routine because I am recording everything, but I also have a ton of energy and feel great! This is by far the healthiest I have been in years- and its only been two weeks!!! You just gotta check out this program!

And- boy do we have a great deal for you today- just $9.97 and US Shipping is Free!!! Now that is a lot cheaper than any doctor visit, nutrionist visit, or a gym membership! Order now!!!!

http://store.worldstart.com/product.php?productid=1203

PS: This program does not substitute regular doctor visits for health purposes! So if you are sick, get to the doctor! However, if you are looking to eat better, get into shape, have more energy, and be all around healthier, this program is for you!!! I love it, and I know you will too! Order now!

Computers 101

Q:
I went to install a new program on my computer the other day, but it wouldn't let me because of something to do with Administrator rights. How can I log into my Administrator account so I can get this program installed? Please help me!

A:
Well, luckily, you have come to the right place! We've actually had several phone calls about this problem recently and just about everyone else who works here told me to write a tip about it, so that's what I'm going to do for you all today. Listen up, because here we go!

When you're installing a new program on to your computer, certain ones may give you an error message that you've probably never seen before. It will say something like "You must have Administrator rights to install (insert program name) on this computer. Please log in to an account with Administrator rights and run this installation again." So, what exactly does that mean? Well, let me begin with a brief definition of Administrator rights.

The Administrator, when talking about computers, is like the sole leader of the whole PC. It's the one person who can go in and have unrestricted access to everything on the computer. They can create, delete and modify any of the files or folders on the computer, as well as, change any settings. Usually a computer has an Administrator and then other accounts that have a more limited access allowance. For example, in your household, you may be the Administrator, but you may also have other accounts created for your children or grandchildren.

So, when you're trying to install certain programs, your computer requires the Administrator rights to be intact. This usually only comes up if the program is of a more "detailed" or "advanced" nature. If you happen to come across this on your own computer, there are a couple of things you can do, so don't think all is lost. Now, when you boot up your computer normally, you probably won't see the Administrator account listed, but just because you don't see it, that doesn't mean it's not there. Those accounts are usually hidden, so you have to do things a little differently to get there.

In Windows XP, the best thing to do is boot your computer up in safe mode. To do this, restart your computer, but once Windows starts to boot up, hit the F8 key on your keyboard. You'll then be given a list of boot options and you can just select Safe Mode. Hit the Enter key and you will then see the Administrator account come up on the log in screen. Just enter in your password for the Administrator account and you'll be all set. Now, let's see how you can give your regular account (the one you normally use on your computer) Administrator rights.

Okay, once you're booted up in the Administrator account, right click on the My Computer icon on your desktop and choose Manage. From there, expand the Local Users and Groups folder. Click on Groups and then double click on Administrators. Choose Add and then enter the name of your regular account that you want to give administrator rights to. This is usually just your name, but if you named it something else (for example, The Miller Family), just make sure it's entered in correctly. Once you do that, just click OK to back yourself out of that.

Next, restart your computer normally and choose your regular account. It will then have the Administrator rights that you need to install the program. So, just run the install again and you should be all set!

Now, you may be wondering what you can do if you've forgotten the password to your Administrator account. This seems to happen quite a bit, so don't worry, you're not the only one. It's forgotten because you don't usually use that account and even if you have it written down, you probably don't know where it's at. Well, if this happens to be your case, here's what you can do.

You'll want to again reboot your computer in safe mode. (If, after reading this tip, you know you forget your password, make sure you do this part first!) Once you're in safe mode, go to Start, Run and type in "control userpasswords2." A new window will then come up with all of your passwords, etc. listed. Click to highlight the Administrator account and hit the Reset Password button. Type in a new password in both the New Password and Confirm New Password boxes. Click OK and your passwords will be changed.

After you do that, restart your computer normally and then you can get started on giving your other account Administrator rights, as we discussed above. I know this seems like a lot of work, but the bright side is that once it's all done, you'll be able to install any program that may give you the Administrator error. You can't beat that!

MS Office

Quick Table Splits

You're working in MS Word and you've got a beautiful table. I mean, it's perfect!

Well, almost perfect.

Unfortunately, for whatever reason, you've just come to the conclusion that it really should be two different tables.

Now what?

Are you having copy/paste nightmares?

Or, worse yet, you're picturing a situation where you've got to create a whole new table and re-enter all that data!

Well, worry no more.

I've got a simple, three key solution you're just going to love!

If your table is currently empty, you're ready to make the split.

If not, you'll first have to split the data into two halves. That is, all the data for one table on top and all the data for the other on the bottom.

Now, that may take some work. It all depends on your new thoughts for organizing your tables and how it was set up previously.

If you're really lucky, you may not have to rearrange anything or maybe you'll just need to complete a data sort.

Whatever your situation, when you're ready to physically split your table, place your cursor in the row that should be the first row of the new table.

Now, use Ctrl + Shift + Enter.

Boom!

One table now equals two!

You can choose to separate the tables with blank space, text or cut/paste the new table to a new location. Basically, whatever fits your current needs.

To reverse the split, simply delete the spaces between the two tables.

Can it really be that easy?

Yep, you bet!

Tip of the Day

Viewing Your Network Properties

Have you ever had the need to view your computer's properties to either change your computer description, PC name or workgroup? Not quite sure how to do it? Well, that's what I'm here to show you today! But before we begin, let me talk a little about the properties we'll be working with. As you probably know, names and locations are used to identify computers on a network. The computer’s name refers to the individual machine and the computer’s location refers to how the machine is grouped together with other computers. Computers anywhere on the network can be located easily through the naming hierarchy and can be addressed individually by name. You can find the name and workgroup (or domain) of a computer on the network by examining the system properties. Workgroups are available on all Windows XP computers, but domains are available only within the Professional edition. So, now that you understand what the Network Computer Properties are all about, let’s get started!

1.) First, click on the Start button and go to the Control Panel (make sure you're in the classic view).

2.) Next, double click on the System icon.

3.) Then click on the Computer Name tab.

In order to change your full computer name or workgroup, you have to click Change and specify a new name. But for the computer description, you can change it right on the application.

4.) Now, I will explain how to change each of the three properties.

Computer Description: To change the computer description, simply highlight the words in the box, hit Backspace and then type in the new description to change it.

Full Computer Name: To change the computer name, click on Change and then go up to the top of the application. Next, highlight the words, hit Backspace and then type in the new name.

Workgroup: To change the workgroup, simply repeat the process you did for the computer name. But, if you want to change the workgroup to a domain, erase the words in Workgroup and click on the little circle next to Domain. Then just type in the new name.

Finally, after you're finished changing your System Properties, click OK.

If a little box pops up after you click OK that says, “You must restart this computer for the changes to take effect,” don’t worry, because if you restart your computer after you click OK, all your progress will be saved.

That’s all there is to it! Now, you know where you can go when you need to change your Network Computer Properties. Oh yeah!

Today's Feature

Backwards Compatible!

Sometimes older programs just won't work with new versions of Windows. It's a sad fact, but rather than upgrading every bit of software that won't work, or using the CD-roms for target practice, you might want to consider Windows Compatibility Mode. Here's a video on how to accomplish this.

Interactive Exhibition Richard Serra

While I’m on such an artsy theme this week, let’s head on over to the Museum of Modern Art and check out some sculpture. You can choose one of two ways to enter the site: regularly or full screen. I recommend the full screen.

To begin you’ll need to click the page to open the menu. Then each of the menu options can be clicked to open up that category. For example if you click Exhibition – it opens up to a menu with five options. Among those options are some walkthrough videos that I cannot recommend highly enough – they’re just awesome!

The sections are:

Exhibition – here you can check out all the steel sculptures that Serra has made, as well as watch the videos I mention previously. You’ll find if you click into a category with images that you can browse back and forth through them with the navigation bar at the top of the page. Choose Previous Work or Next Work to move through the gallery.

Interviews – here you’ll find a text interview and a video interview with Richard Serra.

Installation – here you can watch a time lapse video of the installation of the sculptures in the garden, as well as, the installation on the second floor of the exhibit. The second floor video is just mind boggling, and the amount of work it takes to set the exhibit up is incredible.

The Artist – here you can read Richard Serra’s biography, as well as, check out a chronology of his work.

This exhibit was truly amazing, I hope you like it as much as I did!

If you've looked at LED flashlights, you know they are the pedigree of the lighting world - for a light like this, you're looking at least $20-$30 easy. Your cost? Again we're talking just $6.97 and US Shipping is FREE!! It's the BEST DEAL we've ever offered on an LED Flashlight! Give it a try, you'll be glad you did!
