Quick Tips

How Dare You!

Have you ever installed a program, and upon your next reboot you discover that there's a new icon in your system tray? When was I given the choice as to whether or not I wanted another icon down there? It's crowded already! I need my space!

The main offender of this is QuickTime. Yeah, it's required for quite a bit of media viewing, but I'm not always going to need it to be resident and taking up memory all the time, am I?

We're going to take care of that today.

First, you'll want to Right-Click the Quicktime icon in your system tray and go to “Quicktime Preferences”. Click on the Advanced tab.

Down near the bottom you'll see a checkbox that says “Install QuickTime icon in the system tray”. Uncheck it.

...seems fairly obvious, but what if you're using Windows Vista and you get this message:

Click “This control panel works correctly” selection and you're good to go!

This was taken in Death Valley Nat. Park near the overlook at Zabriski Point. It was early morning and the amazing golden light really turned the already gold-colored hills even more yellow.

WOW! A MUST-HAVE For Digital Camera or Video Owners!!

Create A DVD or Video CD In Minutes From Your Photos!

All You Need Is A CD Burner - No Special Hardware!!

And Just Wait Till You See The Deal!

Slideshow

PLUS... You Won't Believe How FAST and Easy It Is To Do!

I'm so excited! We have just the coolest software for you today! If you shoot digital photos or even digital video, this is one piece of software you just gotta own! I almost can't stand how cool this is! I had to tear myself away from it just to write this review up!

It's called SlideShow Expressions and it lets you create these absolutely amazing DVDs or Video CDs from either your digital photos or videos (or both)! All you need is this software and a standard CD or DVD burner!! The resulting movies are incredibly professional looking and between all the "ohhs and "ahhs", everyone is going to ask how the heck you did these incredible shows!

I mean, think about it. You've probably taken a lot of photos and maybe even some home videos. Now's your chance to bring 'em back to life and share them with your family and friends! Don't let them just sit and gather digital dust on your hard drive (yeah, we know about you), it's time to really DO something exciting with 'em!

First off, SlideShow Expressions really couldn't be easier to use! You'll be blown away the first time you use it! Amazing how simple they can make these things! Seriously, it gives you all the shortcuts, the wizards, and the help you need by doing all the "hard parts" for you! Just start the wizard, import your photos (soooo easy), and follow the prompts! Ten minutes later, you have this absolutely amazing digital slide show of your images that is going to drop the jaw of anyone who sees it! Really - just wait till you try it! This takes you from beginning to end and shows you how to turn your favorite photos and videos into DVD's or Video CD's that frankly even you won't believe you were able to create yourself!

Sure, it's easy to use, but at the same time it's designed to help you produce stunning, professional quality projects in no time! You're not going to find ANY OTHER program that's this fast and easy...believe me...we've tried!!!

Here, just take a look at just some of the amazing features this has! Once you start the program, the easy-to-use "Wizard" starts up and asks you questions to help give you the features and designs you need to create the final result you want! Start out with taking your favorite photos and editing them to a professional level that will not only amaze you but your family and friends as well!

Slideshow

Oh, and get this. Included with this program is a fantastic mini photo editor that makes it oh-so-simple to "fix" and enhance those photos that didn't seem to come out quite the way you wanted when you took them! And don't worry, there's plenty of examples to show you what to do to really "tweak" 'em to how you want 'em to be!

Slideshow

As if that wasn't enough, you can add picture captions to go with your photos! You can also create on-screen menus and on-screen "chapter buttons". And you can "trim and edit" not only photos but videos as well! Think that sounds cool? Oh, just wait till you see the "Pan and Zoom" effects...this will blow your mind!!! What this does is let you bring your "still" images to life by "panning" across pictures and zooming in and out! And the program lets you choose the "begin" and the "end" views for a photo! For example, the slide can start with the focus exclusively on a small section of a photo and then the view can zoom out and pan in any direction to shift focus to an entirely different area! You've complete control over the focal shift. Here's the section of the program that shows you EXACTLY HOW TO DO IT!

Slideshow

But hang on...we're not done yet! Next you can choose slide transitions! Instead of just slapping them up on the screen, the software does these awesome scrolls, zooms in / out, fades, etc.! It really looks like it was done in a professional studio! In fact, there are tons of different "styles" you can choose from to give the show the exact "look" you're going for! It's sooo cool - you'll have a blast putting your production together!

And of course no "professional" level video presentation would be complete without audio, would it? So, let's add some music or even your own voice! Oh yeah, we're ready for the BIG LEAGUES!!!

So what do you do with your slideshow once it's been created? Tons! OK, first off, what if you want a CD or DVD to show off on your home TV set? Hey - that's my favorite use for this! Just save your show to a DVD or CD - either of which will play on ANY standard DVD player!! That's right - just pop in a standard CD-R or DVD-R and create a movie - no special CDs, DVDs or burners required!

Oh, and the "saving" options don't stop there! Want to publish your slide show directly on the Web? No problem! You can share your creation your photo slide shows with friends and family online at sites like MySpace, YouTube and other social Websites! Want more? You can convert your photo slide show for use on an Apple iPod, Sony PSP players, most MP3 players that support video, even cell phones that are "media enabled"! WOW!!! Talk about customized production! You've got it all!

Oh, and wait till you see this - It also INCLUDES A CD / DVD LABEL MAKER! That's right...no need to buy another program to design and create you DVD labels...it's already included! Don't just hand out a "blank" disc when you can design and print personalized CD and DVD disc labels and cover sheets! Now you can make your DVD presentation complete and give it that professional "polished" look! And with the templates and easy to follow tutorials you'll turn out awesome labels in no time!

This is GREAT way to archive and preserve your photos and home videos. You can organize an entire year's worth of pictures and put them on a CD or DVD! Plus, do it fast and easy. And you can even hand out copies to everyone you know. Great for family events like weddings, graduations, parties, you name it!

Don't Spend $40 or more for different programs that do each separately when the SlideShow Expressions can do it all! And to top it off, you can have all of this today for just, $12.97 and US shipping is free!!!

http://store.worldstart.com/product.php?productid=5107

P.S. - Your family and friends are gonna love being able to see your photos and videos on their own DVD player in their living room! You're really gonna be thrilled with this!!!

Yikes!

Do You Have A "Rat's Nest" of Long And Messy Cables Lying Around?

A Jumbled Heap of Cords Under Your Desk, Behind The TV or (even worse) Strung Across The Floor...

Just Waiting For An Accident To Happen With Someone Tripping?

Then Check Out

CableNeat Clam

"CableNeat Clams" Cord Savers

A Really Simple, Low-Cost Solution To "High-Tech" Cable Messes!!!

And Wait Til You Check Out The Super Deal We Have On These Today!!

Computers, appliances and telephones all have one thing in common: cords and cables...and plenty of them!! And that usually means one thing: a mess! I know...they're tough to tame. You just need a way to do it so you don't have to think about it any more. And we got it for ya! These are called the "CableNeat Clam" Cord Savers and they're so simple and heck...they work!

They're called "clams" because, well...they look like clams! And the "cord saver" part is because that's exactly what they do - save your cords and cables!

These just make so much sense, it isn't even funny!! A tangled mess of cords or cables spells nothin' but "Trouble". They take up a lot of space and they're dangerous! Someone could easily trip over them. The other thing is that if you have a bunch of cords under a desk and you try to vacuum there, the cords can easily get caught up in the vacuum rollers and mess up the vacuum AND break the cord (and pull stuff off the desk - yikes)! So in addition to the aggravation of having to vacuum around them all the time, now you're talking money out of your pocket...never fun!

But these are great because they're so easy to use, they take up hardly any room and they work with ANY type of cord or cable: audio, video or computer cables electric cords even extension cords!

And using these is a Snap! Here's all you do:

CableNeat Clam

1. Hold one half of the CableNeat Clam, turn it inside out. Do the same on the other have. (Now both halves are open (and inside out).

CableNeat Clam

2. Roll the excess cables/cords onto the center spool.

CableNEat Clam

3. Close up the left and right Clam halves.

CableNeat Clam

See! Simple as can be! And like I said, THESE WORK!!! Sure there are other ways that are "higher-tech" and a WHOLE LOT MORE MONEY to solve the problem of messy cords and cables, but why get fancy when "simple" works great! Besides, you'll save a whole lot of money this way! Speaking of saving a whole lot of money, I said we were having these at a special price and these are just $8.97 and US shipping is FREE!!!

BONUS!!

BONUS!!

BONUS!!

>>>> Buy TODAY And We'll Make It A TWO Pack At NO Additional Cost!!! That's Right - You Get 2 Of These Fantastic Cable Holders For Just $8.97!! WOW!!

PS - Grab a few of these so you have enough for around the house. Remember, these work with cables for your computer, audio and video equipment, any electric cords and even your phone!!!

Computers 101

Q:
Can you please tell me how to create a new account for my computer under XP? I want to make a separate account just for my children to use.

A:
User Accounts are very important for the operation of Windows XP. They allow certain users to access authorized files and prohibit others from using the important files. They are important, even if you don’t share a computer with another user.

The first time you started Windows XP, you created a user account. This account was given administrative privileges. These privileges allow you to add, modify and delete users, as well as, modify your files and other users' files. Today we will create a “limited user” or a basic user account for your computer. This account could be used for your children, roommates or co-workers.

First, we need to access the Control Panel. Click Start, Control Panel.

The Control Panel will appear. Click User Accounts on the right side of the window.

The User Accounts window will appear. Click Create a New Account.

The New Account Wizard will ask you to name the account. If your children are using this account, then you could name it “Children.” The new step of the wizard will ask for the account type.

The computer administrator is allowed to create and modify users and all users’ files. The Limited User may only modify his/her files. Usually you will want to create a Limited User Account so click Limited User. Then click Create Account.

Your account is now created and the user can log into your computer. From the User Account window, the user can change his/her password, picture and username if they want to.

Another thing to keep in mind is If you ever need to take your computer to a computer repair shop, make sure you create a “limited user” account for the repair staff to use. This will allow them to fix your computer, but will prevent them from accessing your personal files. Never allow a computer repair person to use the computer administrator account unless you will be watching them the whole time.

MS Office

More Reminder Time

Do you use MS Outlook's calendar feature with its reminders for appointments?

I don't know about you, but I love that I can set Outlook to remind me of upcoming events before they're scheduled to happen.

But, as much as I like the reminder messages, I find the default reminder of 15 minutes before the appointment isn't really as much time as I'd like. What if you have some materials to gather? Is 15 minutes really going to give you enough time?

As a result, I'm constantly changing that reminder time to something longer. Let's say, an hour maybe?

Whatever your preference, if you're always changing that reminder time, I'd bet you've wished at least once that you could change the default to something more useful to you. Maybe 30 minutes, an hour or maybe even a day. Whatever you choose, it would certainly save the hassle of changing the time for almost all your appointments.

If that's something you'd like to control, here's the "how to" to make those appointment reminders just a bit more useful.

In MS Outlook (yes, Outlook 2007 too!), go to the Tools menu, Options choice.

On the Preferences tab, look for the Calendar section.

It's right here that you should see the "Default reminder" field. Either select a time from the drop down list or type in your own.

Click the OK button.

That's it! Next time you enter a new appointment into your calendar, you should find that the suggested reminder time has changed to what you've set. Hopefully that's most useful to you!

Go From This...

Magic Hangers

To This...

Is Your Closet So Full of Clothes That It's Busting At The Seams?

Well Before You Go And Knock Out A Closet Wall, Try These!

OK, so you're a "clothes Magic Hangershorse"! You know..you've got so many clothes you can outfit the entire army of a small country! (But for some reason, you still can't find a thing to wear!) Or, maybe you live in house or apartment where the closets are so small that you have to remind yourself where they are 'cause if you blink when you walk by, you miss 'em! Either way, the problem's the same: too many clothes for the amount of closet space! Well, before you take a sledge hammer to one of the closet walls (yeah, that'll work but kind of messy...just trust me on that one!) give these a try...THEY REALLY WORK!!!

A short while ago we got a delivery from one of our suppliers. There was the usual bunch of new things they wanted us to look at but they also included a note. It explained they sent along something a little different called, "Magic Hangers". Well as it turns out, they're the manufacturer of these and they asked us to just give these a try 'cause, "They work!", and they thought for sure that our readers would love them as much as everyone else who tried these!

OK, fine. Wanting to humor them more than anything else, I hung a set of these "Magic Hangers" up in the closet and, what do ya know!! They really DO work!

When you understand HOW these work, you're gonna be a believer just like I am! As you can see, there are Two Hanger Hooks connected by a bar that has 5 openings for hangers to fit into. The large hanger hooks fit over the closet bar and then you hang your individual in those five openings in the cross-bar. Then Just Lift Up One of the Large Hanger Hooks and let it drop. When you do that, you've just TRIPLED THE SIZE OF YOUR CLOSET SPACE!!! (And see...you didn't even a sledge hammer after all, did you?)

So, what happens is that instead of your clothes hanging HORIZONTALLY across the closet bar like they usually would, they hang VERTICALLY! All that horizontal room that use to be taken up by hangers is freed up!!! So now you can hang 5 articles of clothing where you previously could only hang ONE!

Not only does this give you more room in your closet, but WAIT TIL YOU SEE HOW NEAT YOUR CLOTHES ARE!!! As I'm sure you already know, when you jam a bunch of clothes into a crowded they get wrinkled so now you either have to iron them or take them to the dry cleaners! But when you use the "Magic Hangers", your CLOTHES STAY NEAT AND WRINKLE-FREE!!!

And these "Magic Hangers" are strong! STRONG ENOUGH TO HOLD UP TO 5 WINTER COATS!!! Just think...no more having to stuff those bulky overcoats in the garage or wherever you can make room! You'll have room now!

Put these in the kids' closet to keep them from fighting over closet space. (They'll probably find something else to fight about, but it won't be "no closet space"!) And these are great for college dorms, studio apartments or any place where space is a little cramped or especially when roommates need to share closet space!

As I said, we're working directly with the manufacturer on this one so we're going to give you a REALLY great price today! You can get a single hanger for just $2.97 (that's not a typo) or get a set of 8 for just $12.97! Now THAT'S A DEAL!

Single Hanger - $2.97 (Free US Shipping)

http://store.worldstart.com/product.php?productid=5129

8 Pack - $12.97 (Free US Shipping - + Best Deal)

http://store.worldstart.com/product.php?productid=5128

PS. We want to make this so incredibly enticing right now that EVERYONE WILL TRY THESE!!! So, this price will DEFINITELY NOT LAST!!!

Tip of the Day

Control Panel Views

You may or may not know that the Control Panel on your computer has two different views. That's right, it has a Classic View and a Category View. They're both very different and either one of them can be used for all sorts of things. It's also very easy to switch back and forth between them. Read on!

Let's start with the Classic View. If you choose this particular option, you will see a box that's filled with different icons. They include everything from Accessibility Options to Date and Time to Printers and Faxes to User Accounts and so on. It contains quite a bit more than the Category View does, but it's also an older version of the Control Panel. On the other hand, the Category View is a more condensed version, but it still has everything you could possibly need from the Control Panel.

Classic View

Now, certain computer techniques require you to be in a particular view and if you're not in the right one, you may run into some trouble. But, like I said earlier, it's very easy to switch between them, so you're never too far from where you need to be. To see how you can do that, go to Start, Control Panel and look in the top left hand corner. There you will see a link that either says "Switch to Category View" or "Switch to Classic View." Once you click on that, you will be taken to the Control Panel you need and you can get your work done. It's as easy as pie!

Protect Your Move

Are you getting ready to move? Well then this is a site that you definitely need to check out. This site will teach you how to avoid Moving Fraud, what your Rights and Responsibilities are, and how to obtain a proper moving estimate and more.

On the Home Page you’ll find categories that you can click into. You can also explore these categories by using the red navigation strip. The categories are:

Are You Moving? – This section covers everything you need to plan a successful move. Whether you just want to learn how to protect yourself from moving fraud, or you just want a check list, you’ll find it here. Another great section here is Valuation and Insurance – it explains to you how to value your personal property, what types of insurance there are for your move, and what you should keep in mind.

Search Movers and Complaint History – nowadays with the internet at your fingertips you have no excuse not to investigate the company you’re hiring to facilitate your move. If someone is providing a service, you can bet that there is a site that registers complaints about that service. Here you can Search by State or Search by Company. You can view safety information, complaints, and company information from the list resulting from your search.

State/Local Resources – this section provides you with a map of U.S. that is clickable. Select your State to get all the local information that you might need during your move. There is a list above the map that will give you an idea of what information will be provided on each State’s page.

Regulations and Enforcement – this section provides you with access to the rules and regulations that moving companies have to follow, as well as, who you might need to get in contact with should something go amiss.

About Us – this is a great section, where you’ll find information about the site and where you should begin at on the site.

I think this is integral information to have if you’re planning a move.

Why is my wall covered with spiders anyway?!?!?

Binoculars With A Built-In Digital Camera!!!

Bushnell

Big 7x Image Magnification!

Bushnell

You Gotta Try These!

There have been times when I've gone to a football game and had my binoculars and wished that I could take some pictures of what I was seeing. Sure, you can schlep along a digital camera with a zoom lens, but it's not much fun watching a game through a camera lens! (Trust me...I tried it - but only for a few minutes.) That's why I was so excited when we got these in! After all, this could be a great solution for all of us who have struggled with the "binocular vs. camera" conundrum!

I got to admit, I was "cautiously optimistic" when I first saw these. But I saw these were made by Bushnell - a trusted, old "stand-by" in the field of optical products. So I thought, "What the heck...let me give 'em a run thru!"

These work just like a regular set of binoculars but it has the added feature of a built-in digital camera! So you can "See" a scene just like you normally would with a pair of binoculars. But, then you can also "Save It", and then "Download It" to your computer and even "Edit It"! Hmmm...that seemed interesting!

Sure enough just like a regular set of binoculars, there's a "focus" knob. Actually, I thought was even better than most binoculars cuz it's in a convenient spot - right underneath the base of the camera, right by your thumb so it's easy to adjust. Also, there's an "eye adjustment" feature so you can get a perfect fit for the distance between your eyes. Heck, there's even a an additional setting to adjust for individual eye strength! (Something called a "diopter setting", apparently a feature that Bushnell binoculars have. Didn't expect to find something like that.) Maybe I was really onto something!

Come to find out that it has "fully coated optics for optimum light transmission", plus it uses a "Porro prism system". Not sure about all that - all I know is that the magnification was pretty darn strong (7 x 18 mm magnification) and the view was very clear! In fact, it was better that other binoculars I've used that were much more expensive!

As they say, "the proof is in the pudding", so I wanted to see what kind of pictures it would take. So I ran outside a took a few shots and well, you tell me!

This first one of, "Old Glory", it was about 60 feet away from where I was standing. What's interesting is that it was pretty windy out when I snapped that shot and there's not a blur in the shot!

Binoculars

Next, I thought I'd see how these would work with a moving object - just like if you were at a sporting event (football game, car race, whatever). Now, it just so happens this street has a posted speed limit of 50 mph, so I think it's safe to assume this car was moving at about that rate. And once again, no blur!!! What do ya think...not bad, heh?

Binoculars

This is EXACTLY the thing for taking "stop action" shots! Also, I like that fact that this has a 1/4" standard tripod mount. Especially handy if you want to use the "Timer" feature and jump in the shot yourself!

Also, this neat little binocular-camera has a button on top that let's use access different features:

Timer - will take a photo after a 10 second delay when you press the shutter

Repeat Shot - This is neat. It takes a rapid series of 3 consecutive photos about 12 second apart when you press and hold the shutter button.

High/Low Photo Quality - This allows you to take photos at different resolutions (640x480 or 320x240).

Movie Mode - This lets you take short movie clips ("avi files", at 320 x 240)

Delete - Lets you delete the last photo or all photos on the camera

There's an LCD Display at the top of the camera that shows you what "Modes" you selected and also shows you how many pictures you've already taken.

As far as downloading the pictures to your computer, it couldn't be easier! It comes with a software program by Roxio, which makes excellent software products! (Now that I really didn't expect!) Just load the CD into your computer, plug one end of the USB cord (comes included!) into the camera and the other end into your computer and you're ready to roll! Just click on a couple of icons to transfer the pictures onto your computer and that's all to it! You can even edit your pictures directly from their if you want, which is perfect for someone who's pretty new to taking digital pictures and all. If you've been taking photos for a while and you're comfortable doing more advanced editing you can use a more advanced program specifically designed for photo editing, like this one we use.

And check out all the accessories that comes with it including: a USB Cable, a Carry case and carry strap!

Bushnell

I got to tell you, I was really pleasantly surprised with this little Bushnell beauty! Has just enough features to be really handy and useful without being too complicated! Easy to use and it works great! Plus it's compact so you can stick it in your pocket or attach the carrying case to your belt and go that route! This is great for sight seeing, sporting events or even family get togethers!

This Bushnell "binocular-camera" is something we know you're gonna love so we're gonna let you have this at a price that'll put a smile on your face (Say, "Cheese!) Grab one of these units today for just $34.97 and US shipping is FREE!!!
