Quick Tips

Gulliver's Icons

Maybe you've got a whole bunch of stuff you want to see on your Start menu, or perhaps it's a matter of personal preference. Either way, today's tip is going to show you how to shrink your Start Menu icons.

Let's give it a try!

First, Right-Click on a blank area of your Taskbar and select “Properties”. A window will pop up. Select the Start Menu Tab and click the
Customize” button. Once in this window, scroll the list all the way down to the bottom. You should see something that looks like this:

Just un-check the check-box that says “Use Large Icons” and hit OK, then Apply then OK again. You've just gone to Lilliput! If you don't like what you see, then follow the same steps and re-check the box

The Best Way To Optimize Your XP Computer!

On Sale - Today Only - $8.97!

Crank Up The Speed!

Customize It The Way YOU Want!

All Automatic! All EASY!

Using XP? Want it faster? Better? Customized to your liking? Well, have we got a deal for you :-)

We have an amazing program called Boost XP and it's about to make your XP experience a whole lot better! This program is sooo amazing, it's been completely SOLD OUT everywhere for the past month or so! It's finally back in stock so if you use XP, you just gotta grab this one while you can at such an amazing price!

I tell ya - I don't think I've ever seen a program that lets you take soooo much control over your PC! I mean, everything is covered! You can really crank up your speed settings, slice your boot-up time, get the excess junk off your hard drive freeing up gobs of space, and - my favorite part - really customize Windows to be EXACTLY what you want it to be!

I discovered so many tweaks - it just blew me away! Want to dump all the excess junk in your RAM (and speed things back up) after using a memory hoggin' program? How about enable auto-login when you start up? Or maybe automatically close an app that's hung up? Would you like give some programs priority over others? Are you looking for an awesome defrag and scan disk program? Or would you like to remove the flag from the start button? Get the idea?

If a setting can be adjusted or optimized, you can do it with this software!

All in all, this includes a whopping 40 tools that can do TONS of tweaks. And the best thing is it's all automatic! I don't think there's a setting in Windows this software can't tweak or improve. We were amazed at everything this one piece of software can do - and how easy it was to make changes. Stuff that would normally be exceedingly difficult or impossible for the average user to accomplish was done in a couple mouse clicks.

Here's just a very small sample of what this software can do:

Speed up Windows
Manage your startup programs for faster bootup
Improve RAM performance
Optimize your Internet Connection
Remove unnecessary“temp” and “junk” files
Optimize and speed your Windows Registry
Customize and tweak hundreds of your system settings
Repair damaged Zip files
Manage cookies & Internet history
Securely delete sensitive files
Change wallpaper & add calenders
Get rid of obsolete files
Fix invalid files associations
(like when a file opens in the wrong program)
Prevent dangerous programs from launching
Keep your system running trouble-free!

So many enhancements, so little time!

This is one program every Windows XP user really needs. Everything is in one place - optimizing your machine couldn't be easier! I could go on and on about this one, but the page at the site is enormous and will give you an even better idea of all the features this includes. I absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this program ~ you gotta check it out!

Again, your price for today is just $8.97 and US shipping is FREE! This is the current version of the software and retails for $29.99! It's an amazing deal, but this time quantities are limited. Check out the site:

http://store.worldstart.com/product.php?productid=1906

WARNING - This is the last of 'em! It took us months just to be able to run this again! Please order fast - I can't recommend this program strongly enough! You MUST-MUST order today to get the sale price of $8.97!

"Whoo HOOOOO!"

"I Was About To Buy A Different Tablet For $229!!

Glad I Discovered This!"

You'll NEVER, EVER Edit Your Photos With Your Mouse Again!

The Absolute BEST Way To Work With Graphics & Photos!

Amazing Tablet & Pen Allows You To "Draw" On Your Screen!

Just Try This Once - You'll Never Go Back!

WOW! Super Price Too!

I'mDigiPro 4x3 so excited - I can't wait to share this one with you! We just got this amazing deal on these fantastic Graphics Tablets! Check this out - once you discover how these work, you'll want one for sure!

First off, if you're not familiar with a graphics tablet, it's something that anyone doing any kind of photo editing or graphics work will absolutely LOVE!

Basically, it allows you to use a "pen" to "draw" on your screen!

See, this cool little tablet sits next to your keyboard like a mousepad, then you grab the included pen, and as you "draw" on the tablet, the mouse follows along on the monitor! The pen becomes the mouse for your graphics program! (Don't worry, it doesn't replace your mouse, just supplements it).

PLUS, this works with EVERY program out there since the pen is the "mouse"! If you're program can use a mouse, then this will work!

Once upon a time, in the bad old days, I used a mouse in Photoshop (and other photo editing programs) to make my selections, use brushes, erase - pretty much everything. If you've ever used a mouse to make a tricky selection, you know how incredibly frustrating that can be!

Well, this tablet comes to the rescue! Instead of trying to trace, brush, select, etc with your mouse, this allows you to "draw" or "paint" with a pen! If that sounds like a great idea, just wait till you try it! What a surprise - tracing and brushing with a pen is easier than a mouse!! Honestly, I don't know how I could ever go back to editing photos using a mouse after using this - difference is night and day.

PLUS - this is a pressure sensitive pad! If your program supports it (Photoshop does - and many others), then you'll really love this! You can generally set the pen to apply "more" as you press harder! So, let's say you're brushing in an area in Photoshop - You can set this so the harder you press, the more "effect" you put down! For example, if you're painting with black, a light touch would only put down a light grey, harder would be a middle grey, and full pressure would be black.

Oh, and did you notice in the photo the "F" keys? Just a tap of the pen gives you instant access to common shortcuts!

Of course, it's great for other graphics work as well. If you're a digital artist, this will feel like the most wonderful invention you've ever used! When you're drawing on screen with this, it even feels like you're using a real brush or pencil!

Here are some of the features:

  • 4 x 3 Drawing Surface ~ great size for portability and it doesn't take up half your desk!
  • Stylus pen that features the same functions as a mouse (stylus pen holder included).
  • USB interface ~ USB cable is connected to the tablet.
  • Soft-tip pen with 512 levels of pressure for drawing programs such as Painter and Photoshop.
  • Capturing signatures and drawing for inserting into documents.
  • Pen commands for control and editing functions.

What about setup? Easy! Just plug it into your USB port! A lot of people worry that they have to use this instead of a mouse, and don't worry - that's not the case at all. You can use your mouse and tablet side by side! Use the tablet when you're doing photo editing or graphics, switch to the mouse for the regular stuff! That's what I do!

Here's the thing - we all do at least a little photo editing anymore - it's the way digital photography works! This makes it sooo much more enjoyable - and sooo much easier! When I first stared using these tables, I was blown away at how simple it was to make a tight selections and tricky brush strokes compared to my mouse - and I never looked back!

Your cost? Well, you can easily spend hundreds for a graphics tablet - but not today! We got an amazing deal on this - right now it's on sale for just $32.97 and US shipping is FREE! WOW!!! For that kind of money, you've just gotta try it! You'll be glad you did, that's for sure! Plus - Don't forget you can save an extra 15% today by using the coupon code above! Now THAT'S A Deal!

http://store.worldstart.com/product.php?productid=4877

PS - Once you try this, you'll never go back to using a mouse with your graphics or photo program - it's that good! Give it a try, you'll be amazed too!

PRICE WARNING - We're getting these are a special price from our supplier, and I can't guarantee the deal after today. RUN to the site and grab this - the price will increase to $38.97 soon!

Q:
What is a Wiki?

A:
Our readers in Hawaii know that "wiki-wiki" means "quick". In web-speak they are sites where users can add and edit content. If you've ever been to the Wikipedia for information then you have some idea about wikis. At last check they had 2,888,000 articles in English.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page

Each page in a wiki usually contains a large number of links to other pages .Vandalism and spam attacks are frequent, but the administrator can usually revert to the previous version or astute users can correct the intrusion.

Many businesses and corporations are using wikis as a way to make collaboration easier. Information can be kept up-to-date without the need for emails to the webmaster or meetings. The changes can be instant—and the more people involved, the more that can be added.

Here are a couple of interesting wikis--keep in mind that a wiki is only as good as its collaborators...

Yet another way that the internet is bringing people together to share ideas and information.

MS Office

Finding All the "Relatives"

OK - so not really relatives in the sense of the annual family reunion - but instead related messages in Outlook 2007.

You know, when you're looking at a message and thinking, "Now what else was I supposed to know about this?" or "What else did he send me?"

You could begin a search guessing what subject or text phrase to search for or you could let Outlook 2007 do the work for you.

Hmmm… difficult decision…

I vote for Outlook doing the work.

So here's the "trick" to it.

  • First, you need to open the message.
  • Now, on the Message tab of the Ribbon you need to locate the Related button (right side).

  • When you click the button you'll be given two choices, Related Messages and Messages from Sender.
  • Choose one.

Instantly Outlook opens the Advanced Find dialog window and is already searching.

Once the search results are returned you'll find the list in the bottom portion of the dialog window. You can double-click on a message in the list to instantly open it without needing to navigate to its actual location.

The coolest part? 1) Outlook searched everywhere - Inbox, all your personal folder, etc... and; 2) it set all the parameters doing all the hard work for you.

Want An Easy Way To Get Data Off Your Old Hard Drive?

How About A Really Cool Way To Backup Data?

On Sale Today ONLY 05-25-2009!

Ohh, Keep reading, you're definitely gonna want to check this out ~

WOW - we just came across the handiest little USB Cable Adapter that you're absolutely going to love! Check out these two great uses:

Easily retrieve information from your old hard drive ~
This is super easy, you simply hook the cable to your old hard drive (or even a laptop) and then plug into a USB port on your current computer and "presto" ~ your old drive now shows up as an external hard drive. How simple and easy is that? You can now access any and all the information you have on that drive and save it to your current computer, a flash drive, whatever ~ super simple, anyone can do this!

Turn an internal drive into a convenient external drive for back-ups ~
Do you know what external hard drives are going for compared to internal drives? Well, a 500GB internal drive is about $150.00 and the 500GB external drive is about $279.99 ~ yikes! The main difference is the nice case on the external drive so when it sits on your desk, it looks pretty. I gotta tell you, for a backup drive I don't need it to look pretty ~ I just want it to hold my data and then sit in the desk drawer quietly until I need it again ;-)

Now, this is where this USB Cable Adapter comes in really handy. Again, just hook the adapter up to your "internal" drive (it doesn't have to be inside your computer) and then plug into an existing USB port on your computer. Again, easy-peasy! The drive will show up as an external drive on your computer and you can easily back-up all your files ~ pretty cool, huh? When you're done, you can disconnect and store the drive in a drawer ~ no need to have it taking up desk space! And, you've saved about $130.00 by using an "internal" drive as your backup drive!

If you find yourself in either of these situations, I'm telling you ~ you've got to give this a try. You won't believe how easy this really is ~ even the "non-techies" will be surprised! Oh, yeah ~ almost forgot, TODAY ONLY your cost is just $19.97 and that includes FREE shipping in the US! Oh - hey, don't forget - use that 15% off coupon code above to make the deal even sweeter!

This Price will increase to $29.97 tomorrow!!!

Killer 23-in1 Memory Card Reader Blowout!

WOW - This Is A MUST-HAVE For Digital Camera Owners!

Amazing Price Too!!

We landed an incredible deal on a 23-in-1 Memory Card Reader / Writer (USB 2.0)! It works with just about every memory card ever made - See the site for a complete list (your card type is on there, I'm sure :-).

You just plug it into your computer and leave the reader on top of your desk (with XP, no setup at all, and no drivers to install). As soon as you're done shooting, just pop the card out of your camera and into the reader. From there, it's simply a matter of dragging and dropping the images to your hard drive. It couldn't be easier.

The really cool thing is that these are USB 2 readers, so they're really fast (yes, they still work if you have USB 1.x). If your camera is uses a USB 1 connection for file transfer, you'll see about a 10X improvement with these! If it uses a USB 2 connection, you'll probably transfer about the same speed - but you don't need to dig out all the cables and stuff to hook up the camera.

These also work great with regular files. Let's say you need to move a 50 Meg file from one computer to another. With your card reader, you could use the card from your camera to move the file. We have people who buy these just for that purpose!

Again, this is one accessory I can't do without - in fact, everyone I know who has a card reader says the same thing. It's so much easier than messing around with the camera, looking for connection cables, and fighting with special software.

Want one? I don't blame ya! Your price - today only - is just $9.97 and US Shipping is FREE! (PLUS - you get that 15% off if you order today) That's the best price we've ever had on a reader like this - heck, it's tough to find a card reader that just does one type of card for that kind of money!! Grab yours today ~ the price will be back to $14.97 soon!

http://store.worldstart.com/product.php?productid=3245

The price will increase to $14.97 tomorrow!

Have A High Definition TV?

It's Not REALLY High Def Unless You're Using An HDMI Cable!

Discover How Incredible Your HDTV Can Really Look!

Other Cables Can't Deliver True High Definition - You MUST Use An HDMI Cable!

And We Have A Gold-Plated Deal For You Today!

Wanna here a sad little story that repeats itself all the time? People go out and buy an amazing new HD TV (Plasma, LCD, DLP ect) and when they plug it in and hook it up, they discover that, much to their dismay, the picture, well, sort of sucks. Why? It's all the in cables!

Unless you are connecting your DVD, Cable Box, Satellite Dish, Bluray, ect to your TV via an HDMI cable, you're just not getting the quality you paid for. Period. Other cables simply can't provide the bandwidth you need to get HD video to your TV at full resoultion. It's a shame to spend hundreds - or thousands - on a top notch TV, only to plug it in with crappy cables.

I can tell you from experience you'll be blown away at what a difference the right cable can make in your picture! I've used 'em all - from the basic yellow/red/white AV cables, to "S" video, then Component Video then to HDMI - and it gets better each time (with HDMI being kind of the hill)! Only problem is, HDMI cables can be crazy expensive at the big box stores - $50, $100, even $200!!

Want an affordable HDMI cable? We have 'em for you! These fantastic HDMI cables are going to upgrade your HD TV's picture instantly! We're talking 24K gold plated connectors, copper braided outer shield, and a design that's going to get you an amazingly clean, crisp picture!

Bottom line: If you've got an HD TV and you're not using an HDMI cable, you're not watching HiDef TV - you're really not.

Want to grab a cable? Well, this 6 foot HDMI cable is just $12.97 and US shipping is FREE!

Anyone with an HDTV who's not using a cable is like a guy who won't drive his Ferrari past 25MPH! Grab one today! Don't forget - today and today ONLY you can snag an extra 15% off!

http://store.worldstart.com/product.php?productid=4953

PS - Obviously, make sure your TV has HDMI inputs (any current HDTV will) and make sure whatever components you're plugging in do as well (again, any newer equipment will).

The Basics

I'm sure you've come across words and acronyms on the Internet that you don't know the meaning to. You may even see them every day, but find your eyes glazing over with indifference to their definitions. If you plan on building your own website then it would be helpful to know what some of this stuff means. This tip is up over at Worldstart right now!

Kids Health

On the Worldstart site today we have a site called Kids Health. It's a Web site that is separated into three parts so that everyone can get the most out of it! The sections are Parents, Kids and Teen. See what you can do to help your kids get fit today!

Here's the link you need: http://www.worldstart.com/ Enjoy!

Tip of the Day

Tour The Registry Editor

We often tell you about using Regedit to change settings in the Windows Registry. Since playing in the registry should be done with extreme caution, we tell you exactly where to go and what changes you can make. But what do all those keys and values mean?

Well, today I'm going to give a you a closer look at the Registry Editor and what the different areas are.

The different folders in the left window represent keys in the registry.

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT

This helps XP launch the right application when you open a file.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER
This is the configuration info for the user who is currently logged in. Your folders, screen colors, and Control Panel settings are all there. This is your User Profile.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

Here you'll find configuration info for the computer.

HKEY_USERS

This is the root of all user profiles where all user account settings live.

HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG

This is where you'll find the hardware profile information used by your computer at system startup.

A key can contain sub-keys.

When you click a key or sub-key, the value entries in the key are displayed in the right hand window.

Double click the entry to edit.

You can search the registry for a key or value by hitting Ctrl+F and typing in a word. Use F3 to continue the search.

Go to File/Print (or Ctrl+P) to print out the whole registry or just a specified branch.

And, of course, any time you plan to "tweak the registry" be sure to back it up first...
http://www.worldstart.com/tips/tips.php/401

This is just an overview of the main features of the Registry Editor. It is a mysterious place that should be entered with caution. Don't go in there and start changing values or creating keys without guidance or you could run into problems.

Smart History

This site is an amazingly delightful look in to art history. I had a very difficult time trying to decide where you should start your visit. What I finally concluded was that you should start on the About page.

You can get to the About page by clicking the more link in the About SmartHistory box on the main page, or you can click the About SmartHistory link at the top of the page. The reason I think that this is a great starting place is because you learn why the site was created and what it can be used for. You also get a glimpse into their way of thinking and teaching. After you check out the About section. You should click on the Where Should I Start button on the main page.

Where Should I Start? - That’s a great question, with so much information available on this site it is a good idea to get some direction. Another reason for visiting this section is that you’ll get a few terms defined, and have access to a video that will help you look at art. In college Art classes it is one of the criteria that teachers have to teach you. They have to be able to impart to you how you should view art, how to look past your first emotional response (or in some cases lack of) so that you can appreciate the brush strokes, sculpting techniques, etc. Use the side menu to go through the different sections provided here.

Under Various you’ll learn things that will help you appreciate not only art, but the artist, artist workshops, and patronage. While under Media – you’ll learn about the various mediums that artists use to create their artwork. And under Institutions you’ll learn about how the academy affected art, and artists, as an extension of the monarchy.

Now that you have the terminology and the theory of analyzing art at your fingertips you can dive into the different periods of Western Art. Use the time line (in the center of the main page, or the bottom of the different sections we’ve already looked at) to dive into the period of history you’d like to explore art in. Your options range from Antiquity to Post-Colonialism.

As you click through, if you see a painting you like click it – to go to its page. There you will more than likely find a video that discusses the painting. I love that they’ve included videos because it gives you a different perspective on what you are looking at and may open your eyes to some detail you might have missed.

This is an incredible Art History site. I hope you’ve enjoyed it as much as I have and pass it on!

Absolutely Amazing Cleaning Cloth!!!!

Everyone Who Uses 'Em Won't Go Back!

Grabs Dust Like Crazy - We've Never Seen Anything Like It!!

GREAT For Cleaning MONITORS, TVs - And Everything Else!

Have you tried these yet? WOW - they just blow me away. We just moved to a new house and I had a LOT of dusting to do. So, I grabbed a pack of Wonder Cloths and got to work. All I can say is WOW! These are just amazing! They are a microfiber material and just seem to suck the dust off of stuff! I felt like I was living in some TV commercial watching how easily this took the years of accumulated dust off stuff! If you've never tried one, trust me, you don't know what you're missing! These are incredible!

Oh, and this is cool - these 12.5" X 12.5" cloths can be used wet or dry and they attract dust just as well as my TV screen does! Seriously though, these are just fantastic for soaking up spills - they pull in liquid like magic and can hold a whopping 7X their weight in water! WOW! You don't even need to use any soap or chemicals, they're just that good!

We use these all the time for everything - we won't be without them at my house! I use them for my LCD computer monitors, our flat screen TV, furniture, floors, - anywhere you would use a regular rag or towel - only these have ALWAYS worked WAY better! Oh, and get this - I was pricing a chamois cloth at an auto parts store recently (they go for almost $20.00) and saw they had a cloth similar to these right next to the chamois (they were $10.00 for 1 cloth by the way). It occurred to me to just use this one that I had at home already instead. Guess what, it works perfectly!! Add cars to the list of things these do incredibly well!

We have a limited quantity of these available so please get to the site and orders yours right away! I know these are going to go fast. Terms of Use

Personal & Educational Use Only This blog consists mainly of FREE newsletters from computer web gurus that I receive. I thought you might like to see them all in one place than try to discover them on your own. A moderate amount of editing may be done to eliminate unrelated repetitious ads or unnecessary text which bloat the post. However I have given the authors full credit and will not remove their site links because you deserve to see where it comes from and they deserve to get credit for what they have written. Your use of this site is simply for educational purposes. For more computer-related help go to: CPEDLEY.COM for free software, advice and tips on low cost products which are very helpful. If you want to contact the editor, please go CPEDLEY.COM and check the Contact page for email address.
