Quick Tips

View Multiple Windows at Once!

Often times I find myself with more than my fair share of windows minimized in my taskbar. Sure, it's disorganized, but it becomes even more frustrating when I need to look at two of them at once! Minimize, maximize, adjust the size, etc! It gets really repetitive!

Some people have two monitors for this, streamlining the process, but what about a tip for all the “single-screeners” out there?

Let's learn how to “Ctrl” this situation!

Did you know that you can hold the Ctrl key and select more than one window at once? What's the benefit? Well hold Ctrl and Left-click a couple of windows on your taskbar. This should select both of them. Now, Right-click and choose either “Show Windows Stacked” or “Show Windows Side by Side”.

Automatically, your chosen windows should spring up; size adjusted and ready for productivity! Experiment a bit and see if the side by side or stacked method works best for you!

Don't Fork Out $400.00 For Adobe PhotoShop!

We Have A Great Photo Editing Program Just Like It For $8.97 TODAY AND TODAY ONLY!!!

Make Professional Image Editing EASY!

Edit, Enhance, And Share Your Photos!

You're Gonna Be BLOWN AWAY!!

Seriously - just look at the screen shots below - this really looks and performs just like Adobe Photoshop! This has to be the most incredible software find we've ever come across! You'll save HUNDREDS and have pretty much the same program! WOW!

Let me guess - you'd love to have Adobe PhotoShop but that $400 price tag holds ya back. Wouldn't it great if someone made a program LIKE Photoshop, only cheaper? Oh, we found it! It's PhotoDesigner Pro and just look at those screen shots below - it looks and acts just like the $400 Adobe Photoshop! Layers, tools, filters - give this a try and you'll think you're using Photoshop!

At first I wasn't too sure about this one, could it really be like Photoshop? Let me tell ya, once I installed it, I was really surprised! You open it up and it really looks and performs pretty much exactly like Adobe Photoshop! The tools and layout look just slightly (very slightly) different, but it's all there! It features layers, adjustment layers, masks, effects, has pretty much all the same filters, rulers, tools - it's all there! Heck, going through the menus, you have to remind yourself that you're NOT using actually Photoshop!

Oh, just wait till you see the tools - that was my concern, but they're all there! The clone stamp, gradient tool, red-eye removal tool, crop tool, paint bucket, smudge tool, burn & dodge tools, the blur & sharpen tools, scratch removal tool, color picker, text tools, shapes, selection tools like Magic Wand or "shapes" - whew - on and on! You name the Photoshop tool, this has it!

Same goes for the rest of the program - the filters from Photoshop are all there! My personal favorites - the High Pass, Unsharpen Mask, Gaussian blur, Sharpen, and Lighting Effects - all there along with a total of 44 regular filters at your disposal! Everything you need to add that little extra punch to your photos!

As for the the image adjustments, you have 'em all too! We're talking Curves, Levels, Contrast, Hue / Saturation, Brightness / Contrast, Color Balance, Selective Color, Channel Mixer, Gradient Map - and more! It's all there - just like Photoshop!

I tell ya, if you want Photoshop but can't justify the expense, this is a no-brainer! Heck, even if you can justify the expense, why not take a look at this first? I've never seen a program that was soooo close to Photoshop!

With this program you are getting tons of ways to use professional level tools that will have everyone wondering who you hired to edit your photos! This program goes above and beyond basic photo editing software. It not only acts like Photoshop - it actually works with Adobe Photoshop files too - you can open Photoshop images, edit them and save them back into the native Photoshop format!! Of course, it will work with all the photo files on your computer and work with your digital camera / scanner too!

In addition to looking and acting like Photoshop, it's jam-packed with over 200 instant effects (these are REALLY cool), 140 picture brushes and 30 tutorials- all of which make this program unbeatable! Add your own message to your photos with the editable text function. Use the automated images correction for quick and easy photo editing. Create your own amazing effects with a few clicks of your mouse! Automatically create awesome web animations! Even turn your documents into print-ready PDF's with encryption and password protection!

Like I said, pretty much Photoshop's twin! It even has a pressure sensitive feature that works with a graphics tablet if you have one! Depending on how hard you press on the tablet, the program will know whether or not you to use a think or a thin brush! How absolutely sweet is that?

After playing with this for an hour or so (It's really fun), I came to the conclusion that anything I've been doing with Photoshop could be done in this - and using the same tools and techniques too! Why pay $400 for Photoshop when there's something like this on the market? You've got to try it - I promise, you'll be impressed!

Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned pro, this photo editor is going to amaze you! But the price is incredible in itself. You could pay almost $400.00 for Abode Photoshop, or you could check out this great program for just $8.97 and US Shipping is Free! Heck, for that kind of money, you can't afford to pass this one up! If you don't agree that this is just like Photoshop, you can even send it back for a refund within 60 days! No risk to you at all - give this a try, it's really unbelievable how much Photoshop DNA this seems to have!

How many times have you shot some amazing footage, but really wished you could do a little editing to make it even better? You know what I mean right? Think of all those home movies that you have to endure that include all kinds of mind-numbing parts - mindless conversations, camera left on as someone walks, maybe a tripod shot that covers an entire (yawn) event. Of course, somewhere on that video, something really great happens. Next time you want to watch that film, what are you going to do? Fast forward through all those boring parts, right? Wouldn't it be great if there were a way to edit the movie so you could keep the good and toss the bad? Of course it would be!

Computers 101

Q:
I just set up a wireless network in my home and while I love it, I'm still a little concerned about others being able to use my signal or even hack into my computer. I was told that hiding my SSID will take care of the problem, but I'm not sold on that idea. I'm not even sure what an SSID is or how to hide it. Can you please help me? Thanks!

A:
First of all, I want to welcome you to the world of wireless! I've been using a wireless connection in my home for a few years now and I absolutely love it. I'm sure you will too! And it's very impressive that you're already concerned about your safety when it comes to using your wireless network. A lot of people don't start worrying about that until it's too late, so it's great that you're already so far ahead of the game. I think your question will help a lot of other readers out there who are using wireless networks as well. I just love that!

As we all know, when you use a wireless router, there's always a chance that other computers will be able to pick up your signal and use it, without you ever knowing a thing about it. Even more than that, there's always the risk of your computer being hacked into as well. So, what can you do to keep yourself safe when using your wireless connection? Well, the person who asked today's question mentioned hiding their SSID and while that helps, it's not always the best solution. Let's take a look at our options!

To begin, wireless routers are set up to send out a beacon called the Service Set IDentifier (SSID), which is what helps your wireless devices (laptop, etc.) connect to the Internet. The main purpose of the SSID is to broadcast wireless signals and invite available devices within range to connect to them. Now, if a device doesn't know a network's SSID, it will not be able to connect. So, if you change your SSID settings, only the people who know the SSID will be able to connect to your wireless network. That can help keep some of the "outsiders" away.

Now, while hiding your SSID keeps casual users at bay, you could still have trouble with hackers. Unfortunately, a hacker who is determined enough to get into your network will find a way. If they have the right kind of software, they will be able to easily gain access to your computer. Plus, changing your SSID can result in a slower performance and it could take you longer to connect to the Internet. Who wants that?! Luckily, there are a few other things you can do to keep your wireless network as secure as possible. Let's check them out!

For starters, you can change your router's login and password to be different from the default settings. If you're still using the login and password that came with your router, anyone could connect to it, change your settings and even lock you out. You should also change your SSID to something a little more unique. Most routers come with a name of "default," which is very easy for hackers to figure out. You should change it to something a little more meaningful to yourself. Lastly, you should turn on your encryption. If you do that, your router will not give access to any wireless devices unless they can provide the password you specify. It will also encrypt any communication between your computer and your router so that no one will be able to see what goes on. Note: If your router supports WPA encryption, you should use that over WEP, which is an older version.

Doing the three things I discussed above are your best bets for secure wireless networking, but if you still want to hide your SSID, you can do so by following the directions in your user manual. Every router is different, so your manual should give you detailed directions on how to get the job done. If that doesn't work, you can always contact your ISP for help as well. Either way, it's very important to keep your wireless network as safe as possible. Hopefully one of the above suggestions is just what you've been looking for. Test them out today!

MS Office

To the Bottom Right Now!

As I'm sure most of you know, when working in MS Excel, Ctrl + Home will take you to the upper left corner of your worksheet (cell A1).

Do you know where Ctrl + End will land you?

Let's all hope it's not in the bottom most corner of a worksheet! Have you ever scrolled out right or down to find out just how big Excel makes its worksheets?

Well, don't bother. Let me tell you, they're huge.

Going there would rarely, if ever, be useful.

So, where exactly does Ctrl + End put you?

Why, at a very useful place. Yes, the bottom right corner of your data area - that is... the end of the worksheet space that's actually in use.

It's a two key quick jump from the beginning to the end!

I don't have to tell you that driving around in the heat can take it's toll not only on you and your passengers, but also your car itself! The windows of your car act as a greenhouse - magnifying and intensifying the suns heat. This greatly increasing the effects of the suns harmful rays and increases the temperature inside of your automobile. The increased temperature inside your car makes your air conditioning work harder, causing you to waste money on gasoline!

Also, the strong rays of the sun can fade and wear out your seat upholstery much quicker, too! Well, you can't control the sun but you CAN CONTROL HOW MUCH SUN GET'S INTO YOUR CAR! Here's a sure-fire way to beat the heat and drive in comfort all summer long!

These work much like the shades in your home, only these are lightweight and specially designed for the inside of your automobile!

Just attach the shade securely in place with the two suction cups at the top and then pull the shade down to the level you (or your passengers) want! Once you have the shade pulled down to the level you want, you can secure the shade at that position with a third suction cup that's included!

And when you sun goes down, simply push the button on the side of the roller tube and the shade automatically goes up and retracts into its protective tubular case! What's nice about that is you don't have to take the shade down, just raise it and you're ready for when you need to lower it again.

The shade is 14 inches wide and 20 inches long when fully extended so this is plenty big enough to cover most automobile passenger windows!

But the AutoShade isn't just for your car, it's perfect for trucks, boats and even RV's! So might want to grab a couple for each vehicle. After all, sure beats paying the high cost of gas to heat the inside of a hot car! And we've got these at a special price today of just $9.97, and US shipping is FREE!!!

Tip of the Day

Google Moderator

In today’s bad economic times we’d all love to save some money, right? How do you save money? If you could ask a world leader anything, what would it be? If you’re a HTC Dream (Android phone) user, what new Android application would you like to see? Google Moderator is a new Google application that was originally intended to ‘moderate’ Google conferences and is now open to the public. Let’s check it out!

So, what is Google Moderator? Basically it’s a site where you can ask questions or suggest ideas and others vote on them. The more votes, the more likely your suggestion will be implemented by the Google Team if it’s Google related and it’s quite interesting to watch what people think.

Surely the biggest ‘series’ (group of questions) on Moderator is the Tip Jar, so I’ll base my examples around this. To get to the Tip Jar, go to http://moderator.appspot.com (‘appspot’ is a Google domain name just like ‘blogspot’ for the Blogger service). You’ll see the Featured Series – popular series that are active. Click Take a Tip. Share a Tip.

If you have a Google Account, sign in. This will allow you to vote on tips and even write them! At the top of the screen you’ll see a big green box with options to vote inside it. Read the tip. Do you like it? If so, click the tick.

Lower down you’ll see the tips that are currently ‘in the lead’. You can vote on these by clicking the tick or cross next to the graph which shows how much support there is for that tip.

Happy tipping!

Today's Feature

Common mistakes to avoid in Adobe Lightroom

One of the best ways to learn in life is to make mistakes. It can be frustrating, perhaps humiliating at times, but if the lesson is learned, it is priceless. However, it is also possible to learn from others mistakes. Here are a few tips for Adobe Photoshop Lightroom that were learned the hard way, so you won’t have to.

Importing
The first thing to do in Lightroom is to import your photographs. Imported photographs are instantly imported into the category ‘Previous Import’. Bear in mind though that this is only a temporary catalog, and these photos will be replaced when you next import some more. With that in mind, it can get a bit messy if you have to import multiple sets of photographs and want to manage them all at the same time. If you want to keep sets of photos together, then the best thing to do is put them all into one ‘master’ folder before you open Lightroom. That way you can import them all at the same time. This means you can add keywords, as well as move and sort the photos all in the same catalog. Keeping the photos in a group will pay huge dividends later.

Remember, though, that Lightroom has now made a connection with these photographs in the folder. This is very important. Try your utmost not to severe these links. This means no renaming, moving or deleting your photos or Lightroom will lose them. If you do break the links then the picture’s previews will be viewable but it will tell you “The file named xxx is offline or missing”. If you moved the picture, find it. You can do this by right clicking on the preview and select ‘Find in Explorer’. Once you have found it select it and enable the “Find nearby missing photos” checkbox in case other photos were moved as well.

When you upload the photographs onto the computer, you may notice two copies of each. If you have been shooting in RAW do not think this is a mistake. In other words, don't delete them! One is the RAW and the other is the sidecar. Any changes you make to the RAW are saved onto the sidecar, so you have both the original and the edited version. Therefore, make sure they always stay together. To make it easier and more manageable, it may be worth shooting in DNG (digital negative) if your camera is able, or converting the RAW to DNG in Lightroom. DNG means the edited photo now has the ability to stand alone, which saves having to drag two photos around. To do this make sure you choose “photos as Digital Negative (DNG) and add to catalog” when the Import Dialogue box appears while you are importing your RAW photos. Bear in mind, however, that DNG is an Adobe format so not all computers will have the ability to read it. Amateur photographers may find it more useful to edit the RAW and sidecar.

Editing
Efficiency and tidiness are all useful in Lightroom. As mentioned above, keeping your photographs in one group makes the proceedings much easier. Being able to move about quickly will save you hours. It is worth trying to use the shortcut keys to reduce your dependency on the mouse, which at times can be a bit slow. It may seem a bit weird at first but after a couple attempts you will be gliding around Lightroom like a pro, reaping the benefits. Here is a list of some shortcut keys.

g: grid view (library)
e: loupe (single image) (library)
d: move to develop module (to adjust exposure, white balance etc)
r: jump to crop tool
Ctrl + [or Ctrl -]: Rotate image 90 degrees (anti-/clockwise)
p: flag as pick
u: remove flag
x: flag as reject

Another benefit of keeping your photos in a group is so you can edit them at the same time. If you have photographs from the same shoot that need a similar white balance, exposure, recovery, fill light and blacks you don’t have to labor through each one individually. Select one and change the settings with either the Quick Develop tools in the Library module or switch to Developer module. Once you have completed this, right click on the image, select ‘Develop settings’ and then choose ‘Copy settings’. In the next window, select all the settings you want copied, and then highlight all the other photos that you want to share these settings. Right click on them then ‘Develop settings’ then ‘Paste settings’. Now go make yourself a cup of tea in the hours of spare time you have just created for yourself.

Whilst doing all this, keep in mind the general rule of navigation on the left and the keywords on the right. Although not always the case, it is worth remembering in the Library module. Don’t be fooled by the keyword check-boxes when you open the keywording or keyword list areas. These don’t filter your photos according to that keyword; they add the keyword to the photo. To filter according to keyword, click on the little arrow on the right of the keyword, then make your selection from there.
I hope these tips help your Lightroom experiences go much smoother and keep you with a full head of hair. It can be very frustrating at times but keep pulling through and remember the best thing to do with a mistake is to learn from it.

Amanda's Coolsite

Online-Sign

Do you need to make a sign for something? Well if you do, you should really check this site out! Here you can choose from 16 different types of signs then customize it for your purpose, and print it out for free!

The only thing I don’t like is that you have to use Internet Explore for this site to work. Otherwise, the sign categories won’t open up. I think I got one of the fire extinguisher signs to work in Firefox.

Start by selecting the type of sign you need. As I mentioned previously there are 16 different categories to pick from.

They are: Warning, Prohibition, Mandatory, Safe Condition, Fire Evacuation, Fire Exit Banners, Fire Equipment, Fire Extinguisher Labels, Fire Equipment Banners, Disability Discrimination Act, Public Information, Public Information Banners. OSHA Signs, Hazard Diamonds, Hazard Warning Panels, and Traffic Signs.

Once you select a sign category, a new window will pop up, and from there you can pick specifically what you need. So if, for example, you chose Mandatory as your category; the pop up window will have many different examples to pick from like – eye protection must be worn, hard hat area, wash you hands, etc. You’d then select one – and you’ll be taken to the page to edit that sign to suit your purposes.

You can change the text, the pictogram, the layout, the positioning, and more. When you’ve got your sign to the point that you’re happy with it, just click the print button, or the save button along the navigation strip. And just like that you have a fantastic sign for free.

This is a great resource for teachers, well, schools in general if you really think about it. It would also be great for small businesses!

Oh yeah...This Makes Checking Your Tire Pressure A Breeze!!!

Everybody knows you should keep your tires properly inflated because IT SAVES BIG BUCKS!!! In fact, here's what US Dept of Energy has to say about it, "You can improve your gas mileage by around 3.3 percent by keeping your tires inflated to the proper pressure. Under-inflated tires can lower gas mileage by 0.3 percent for every 1 psi drop in pressure of all four tires."

But that's not all... UNDER INFLATED TIRES WEAR FASTER... And THAT'S BIG BUCKS TOO! But probably MOST IMPORTANT of all is safety: PROPERLY INFLATED TIRES ARE SAFER!!!

We all know these things. But here's the question: "How can you check your tires QUICKLY, EASILY and REMEMBER TO DO IT REGULARLY?

How often have you WANTED TO CHECK YOUR TIRE PRESSURE but you just didn't have a tire gauge around? Now you've got it right where you need it!

ALSO, You can use this on motorcycles or even bicycles! Give one to the kids and LET THEM KEEP TRACK OF THE TIRE PRESSURE ON THEIR BIKES!
