Whatever You Do - Don't Buy An External Hard Drive!

Make One Yourself And Save BIG!

Super Easy! Anyone Can Do It!

Great Way To Give Your Old Hard Drives A Reason To Live!

SimpleDrive 3.5 I'm so excited! We just got a jaw-droppin' deal on some do-it-yourself External Hard Drive Cases! I've used these in the past (a lot, actually), and I've saved literally HUNDREDS over buying the "prefab" deals at the stores! Super easy too - my 7 year old can do it!

OK, so how's this work anyway? Glad you asked! Really easy - we sell you this great little case, you take an internal Hard Drive (IDE connection) and just plug it in. Put the case back together (a few screws - not hard), then plug it in! That's it! When you plug it into your computer's USB port windows will AUTOMATICALLY install the drive and list it under MyComputer! It's just like plugging in a GIANT flashdrive! It's THAT easy!

From there, just use it like any other drive! It's an absolutely fantastic idea for extra storage or backups!

PLUS, like I say, this can save a TON on money! There are two ways to do this - The first is to watch for a sale on internal Hard Drives at your local electronics store. You can get HUGE drives for less than $100 all day long! I've seen them for less than $40 after rebates and such! You get them for WAY less than external drives since you're not buying some snazzy case.

The second way these save money is letting you give new life to old hard drives! You know how it is - you have that old computer sitting in your closet - there's nothing on it you need anymore, it's really not worth anything, but you're worried about throwing it away. Why not salvage it's old HD and stick it into this handy case? You instantly have an external HD - for less than $20!

Now, I know you may be a little worried about having to assemble something like this, but trust me, it's easy. If you've ever used a screwdriver and plugged a lamp into the wall, you're qualified! You simply take any IDE drive up to 750GB, in plug the power cord (inside the case), then just push it into place! A few screws later and the case is assembled! I put mine together in less than 5 minutes! Really! Still not sure? I'll make you a deal - if you can't figure it out, you can call out tech support and they'll walk you though it!

OK, ready for the deal? We have these on sale today for just $18.97 and US shipping is FREE! This can save you TONS of money on external drives! Easy to do, cheap, and quick! Grab one, grab a dozen - for this kind of money you just can't go wrong!

http://store.worldstart.com/product.php?productid=5023

PS - It's never been easier - or cheaper - to make your own external HD! PLUS - if down the road you decide the drive you started with is too small, you can always just take this apart and "upgrade" it yourself in a few minutes! Don't miss out!

Q:
Is there a way to make my Desktop icons bigger?

A:
You can use this tip to make them bigger or smaller. I'll also show you how to change the label font and its size.

Windows XP:

Right-click the desktop and choose "Properties" Select the "Appearance" tab then click the "Advanced" button.

Under "Item", pick "Icon" from the drop down list. Under "Size" use the arrow keys to make the icons bigger or smaller (you could also type in a number).

image

Click "Apply" to make changes. If you don't like how it looks, follow the procedure again.

You'll also notice "Font" and "Size". This is where you can change these settings. If you make large fonts, you may need to use a smaller font to prevent overlapping.

If you don't like the way the icons are spaced you can always change that too. Under "Item" select "Icon Spacing (Horizontal)" or "Icon Spacing (Vertical). Choose a number slightly bigger than your icon size and it will adjust the space.

Windows Vista:

For all of you Vista users out there, making your desktop icons bigger is as easy as...well, this is really easy.

Go to your desktop, hold the CTRL key and use the scroll wheel on your mouse. This will make the icons bigger and smaller at the flick of a finger! You can also just right-click your desktop, and under "View" there are options for small, medium and large icons.

Hurray for desktop customization control!

Sick Of Replacing Expensive Batteries In Your Mouse?

Recharge Them And Save Yourself Tons of $$$$

Use This Amazing, Wireless Mouse!

I love wireless mice. Not only do they really free up room on your desktop, but, with the optical technology, these mice are extremely precise. But, the one downfall I have with my wireless mouse is that I am always changing the batteries- and boy, let me tell you, it gets expensive. We all know batteries aren't cheap! Have you looked down the battery aisle recently? Yikes! And when you are constantly replacing burnt out batteries, those costs add up quickly!

Besides, do you know how frustrating it is when you are in the middle of a project and the batteries in your mouse die? Then you have to scavenge all around your house, digging through each "junk drawer" hoping to find two batteries with enough juice in them to get you through your project. And who really wants to take time to do that?

That is why when we came across this awesome mouse, we knew we just had to share it with you. I was so excited about this mouse, that I begged Steve to get one for everyone here at WorldStart. And we all love them!!

This mouse is both wireless and rechargeable. With this mouse, you get the freedom of a wireless mouse without the expense of having to purchase new batteries every few weeks. Once it dies, just pop it on the charger for a few minutes and you are all set. That sure beats buying and searching for batteries!!!

Plus, this mouse is one of the best we have sold. It has a very elegant design and five programmable buttons, including a wheel which makes navigation quick and easy. With its optical technology, this mouse is extremely precise and will work on just about any surface!

Oh, and lets discuss comfort! This mouse is amazingly comfortable. Whether you are on the computer all day or only for a few minutes, everyone needs a comfortable mouse that will fit your hand nicely. We know hands come in many shapes and sizes, but this mouse is comfortable for them all. Personally, I have very small hands, and I couldn't be more happy with the comfort of this mouse in the palm of my hand. Oh the other hand, Gary, our tech guy, has larger hands, and he says this mouse is also extremely comfortable!!!

To recharge this mouse, all you have to do is plug it into the USB receiver and a little LED light will start to flash. Better yet, this mouse comes with Smart Power Management to really save energy, ultimately making your batteries last even longer! Now you have to admit, that is pretty cool.

But what is really cool is the price. For just $16.97 and US Shipping is FREE, you will enjoy this wireless, 5 button, rechargeable mouse. Check out the product page today!

http://store.worldstart.com/product.php?productid=3704

PS: This mouse is going to save you some major $$$$. The money you will save by not purchasing as many batteries will easily pay for this mouse within a few short months. I am telling you, this deal is one that you can't pass up! Order now!

MS Office

Just Taking a Scroll

Give a lot of PowerPoint presentations?

Tired of all the click, click, click required to give your presentation?

What about the hassle to move back a step, once you've made that extra click?

Do you have a scroll wheel on your mouse?

Yes? Well, good, because I just might have a suggestion you may take a liking to.

While giving a presentation, try scrolling the mouse wheel down.

Scroll, scroll, scroll and look at that! Your presentation will advance one step at a time.

Want to go back?

No problem. Scroll the mouse wheel up and you can retrace your steps as fast as you can spin that wheel!

More Cool Stuff

YES!!! Back by popular demand! We've had people just beggin' for more of these! Lots of folks who got in on the first deal are looking for more, and there's a lot of folks who just plain old missed out! Well, here's your chance to grab one of these absolutely fantastic surge suppressors! Join the 800+ who have already ordered!

Amazing Surge Protector Deal!

Attaches Directly To Your Plug Socket - No Cords!

Saves TONS Of Space!

$200,000 Connected Equipment Warranty Too!

WOW! We just stumbled across another fantastic surge protector! This is a Power Sentry 6 Outlet Surge Protector and I'm snaggin' several of 'em for around my house!

Now, what really grabbed my attention with these is they actually plug directly into your wall socket! No cords!

You simply remove the plate on any plug socket, plug this in (NO wiring - it plugs into the receptacle - you only remove the cover plate), then screw this on in place of the old plate! I promise, it's even simpler than I make it sound! Took me about 2 minutes, and I had to find a screwdriver!

Once installed, you're absolutely gonna LOVE this! Instead of two unprotected plugs, you now have a whopping 6 SURGE PROTECTED outlets to plug into! It even has a monitor light to let you know if its surge protection circuit has been compromised! How cool is that!?!?

The great thing is since this hangs on the wall, you don't have to try to find a spot for a bulky surge protector! You know how it is - there never seems to be a good place to put the stupid things! Well, this not only saves space, but also makes your wires much neater - they're plugged into the wall like nature intended :-) This would be great behind the tight space of a computer desk or entertainment center! Let's just say once you try it, you'll wonder how you got along without it!

Oh, and that's not all! This features a phone line and coaxial line pass-though to protect items connected to your phone or cable line from surges! You know that nice TV you just purchased (or the old one you don't want to have die on ya)? Well, you need THIS to protect it - both from regular power surges AND from surges coming though cable lines! After all, EVERY cable coming into your home is subjected to the same extreme weather as your electricity - crazy not to keep EVERYTHING on a surge suppressor! (I've actually seen more damage from phone and cable surges than power surges!)

This would be just fantastic for computers that are hooked up to a cable modem! Just run the coax cable through the pass-though and your cable modem, router, and computer are all protected from cable-line surges! Not to mention plugging all your equipment power cords in keeps things safe from regular power surges! It's just awesome to have this much protection!

What about quality? Are you kidding? This has a WHOPPING $200,000 connected equipment warranty! That means that if a surge comes through this unit and damages something plugged into it, they will replace up to $200,000 worth of YOUR damaged equipment! I don't know about you, but I sure don't have that kind of money wrapped up in electronics, so this more than covers me!

I'm actually going to pick up several of these myself. Not only are they great for computers, but think about all the other uses! Pretty much anywhere you have a lot of cords plugging into a wall, this would be fantastic!

I'm going to use one in my TV room downstairs (TV, DVD, VCR, etc), one for the upstairs TV (new TV  & DVD player), one for each of my kids rooms (old TVs & Computers), and one as an extra in my office! With all the cords I have plugged in, this is just a must have. After all, one good surge hits the house, and all my stuff is TOAST! (Besides, who couldn't use more outlets?)

OK, your cost? Well, we have a double deal for you today! I know that many of you will just need one of these, so that price is first. However, if you're like me and have a lot of cables to cover, you might want to grab two! So, here ya go:

Single Surge Protector - $15.97, FREE US shipping:

http://store.worldstart.com/product.php?productid=4301

Two Pack Surge Protectors - $24.97 FREE US Shipping (best deal):

http://store.worldstart.com/product.php?productid=4305

PS - Yes, this is a limited quantity deal, so get to the site early! Last time we featured surge protectors, they were a complete sellout! Don't miss this one!

Whew - Is It Hot In Here?!

Just How HOT Is It Out There?

Find Out With This "Cool" Thermometer!

Here's one you've really gotta grab - it's a handy little digital thermometer that you're going to love (well, as much as you can love a thermometer anyway :-)!

Seriously, just wait till you see this thing - your days of trying to determine the temperature by seeing how long it takes your tongue to get unstuck from the flag pole are over (or maybe that's just me that does that)!

A quick glance at the easy-to-read, jumbo display will tell you how warm or cold it is out there - no more flipping around from TV station to TV station just to find the temp! No more squinting at some tiny mercury thermometer (analog thermometers are so 90s anyway) Plus it's accurate to within 1/10 of a degree! You'll not only know it's cold, you'll know PRECISELY how cold! :-)

I have one of these and I can tell you firsthand that it's really easy to setup and use. Just open a window, push the little sensor cord outside, then shut the window on the cord (it's really thin - won't hurt your window or the cord). From then on, you'll have super-accurate temps at your fingertips!

Oh, and get this - not only will it give you outside temps, but inside as well! Just push the button and you'll have all the evidence you need to convince your spouse that yes, it really is too hot / cold in here!

Finally, it has this really handy little stand built in making it easy to set on a shelf, counter, or even microwave (that's where mine is). It's also really easy to mount to the wall, so lots of display options. Grab a couple - put one in each room where you want the temp (kitchen and bedroom for me).

And the price is cooler than the temperature in January. Just $8.97 AND US SHIPPING IS FREE! Easiest decision ever if you ask me :-)

http://store.worldstart.com/product.php?productid=3655

PS - You know how it goes, all good things come to an end - and the price on this is no exception. It's gonna jump to $14.97 tomorrow!!

Tip of the Day

Strange Colored Printouts

Have you ever perfected a photo in your imaging program, only to get bizarre colors when you went to print it? You know, the photo is all green, pink, etc? It used to work fine, but now the printouts are making your eyes water with all their hideous color.

Well, if you've never been there, just hang on—ya probably will be!

If your printer has been doing fine and all the sudden this situation crops up, it's probably one of two ink related problems (it could be a monitor calibration issue too, but that's another article :-).

Problem 1 - Your ink cartridge is empty. Like a baseball player who didn't quite run fast enough, YER OUT!

The only solution is to visit your nearest office supply store and make a donation to your printer manufacturer for more ink.

Problem 2 - The other cause of this printer malady is a clogged printer head. If you haven't used your printer in awhile and are reasonably sure you have ink in the cartridge, this is likely the problem. All it takes is one nozzle getting clogged for a ticket to weirdcolorsville.

The solution to this can be a bit tedious, but at least it's easy. When the drivers for your printer were installed, there was probably (hopefully) a utility for cleaning the print heads. Finding it usually is the only challenging part.

Most of the time, if you hit the File menu, Print option of the program you're working with you should get a "Printer Dialog" box.

From this point on, the way you access your printer settings is going to vary quite a bit depending on the manufacturer and software. Those with weak constitutions or heart conditions may want to skip this next part and call a computer savvy relative.

Still with me? OK.

On the dialog box, next to the printer name, you should see a button called "Properties". Click it to get your printer's properties box.

You're looking for a button to clean the print heads. Most printers seem to have this option under a tab labeled "Utilities", "Advanced", "Options", or something similar. Once you find the print head cleaning option, click it.

This is how mine looks—I can just about guarantee yours will look different :-)

From there, just follow the on screen instructions. Keep in mind that you may have to run this utility a few times to get things back to normal. Just keep a gallon or two of ink handy and you'll be fine :-)

Happy printing!

~ Steve

Ah, here we are at the last day of our Facebook series. It’s almost bring tears to my eyes to see it go ;) Let’s explore groups and applications today! You may have heard Facebook lets you find people you might have so much in common with all around the world. Let us check it out!

1. Once you are on the homepage, in the right pane, select Groups.

2. Here you can search for a group. Give it a try, type in anything you please and click Enter!

3. Now you can see the group page. It was created and is filled with members just like you. There are discussion boards, and posted pictures, links, and videos.

4. If you don’t know where to start, browse groups. You will see some local groups, and you can browse by category. If you wander into Totally Random, you can find some pretty fun ones such as “I flip the pillow over for the cold side” or “I use my cell phone to see in the dark” .

Now that we’ve covered groups, it’s time to move over to applications. This is a major feature of Facebook. They add all sorts of different abilities to Facebook. I’m going to show you my top four favorite and how you can browse them all.

I’m just going to point you to the application page. Click Allow to add the application. Then there will be detailed instructions on how to get up and running with them. So without further ado, here we go!

1. iLike – Myspace has always been known for allowing you to have a playlist of your favorite songs, and iLike provides that in Facebook. iLike checks your favorite artists that you entered in your profile and lets you add virtually any song to your profile playlist!

2. Compare People – This application is rather neat, because you get to find out who stands where in various categories such as funniest, smartest, and fun ones such as who would you rather be handcuffed to. Check it out!

3. Quizzes – Create quizzes to see how well your friends know you, and see how well you know them. If you do well, your score will be displayed on your friends profile and those who perform well will get posted on your profile as well.

4. Top Friends – Like Myspace, using this application you can showcase your top friends on your profile. This app also comes with some pretty nice themes that appeal to everyone. But that’s not all! You can also have some fun “throwing” virtual items at your friends or send them a drink.

It looks like we’ve come to an end! I hope you are becoming comfortable with Facebook now, and don’t worry, I’ll be back to cover more with Facebook before you know it!

Tetris Friends Online

I’m ridiculously addicted to this game! So I thought I’d get you all addicted to it too. Then I won’t be alone in my addiction. Basically it’s several variations of the game Tetris, and it’s free!

Registration is also free, but you don’t have to register to play. So you can definitely try it first.

There are six different versions of the game, they are:

Tetris Marathon – this one is my current addiction. In order to win you have to beat 15 levels of the game. I’ve made it to level 6 so far. But I’m going to beat it! If I have to play it all day!

Tetris Sprint - in this version you have to clear 40 lines as quickly as you can. So far, my best time is 7 minutes.

Tetris Survival – now you have to survive 20 levels of Tetris! I could only make it through 4 levels of this one, it is tough!

Tetris Ultra – you’ll have to register for this one, because you have to unlock it with tokens. You earn tokens by playing the games, and you get 500 to start with from registration. What you have to do in this version is score as many points as you can within two minutes.

Tetris Sprint 5P – This one is the same as the regular Tetris Sprint, the difference here is that you’re competing against 5 other players.

Tetris Battle 2P – another that you’ll have to register for and unlock with tokens, you’ll battle it out against another player.

At any time during you’re playing you can press the ESC button or the P button on your keyboard to pause the game. Tokens can be used to unlock games, and to unlock accessories to customize your game of Tetris.

If you stumble into a multiplayer and you find a player named midedra there, you’re battling me!

Check this one out and get addicted today!

Terms of Use

Personal & Educational Use Only This blog consists mainly of FREE newsletters from computer web gurus that I receive. I thought you might like to see them all in one place than try to discover them on your own. A moderate amount of editing may be done to eliminate unrelated repetitious ads or unnecessary text which bloat the post. However I have given the authors full credit and will not remove their site links because you deserve to see where it comes from and they deserve to get credit for what they have written. Your use of this site is simply for educational purposes. For more computer-related help go to: CPEDLEY.COM for free software, advice and tips on low cost products which are very helpful. If you want to contact the editor, please go CPEDLEY.COM and check the Contact page for email address.
