Quick Tips

Jump to it!

We've talked about hidden files before, right? Browse to the Control Panel, click folder options, blah, blah, blah. Practically drilled into our head by this point eh? Well, let's put the Windows Vista Search Bar to work then, shall we?

If you're switching back and forth between showing hidden files and re-hiding them, then taking a step out of the process should be welcome. So, instead of slogging through menus to get to the Folder Options, why not just type in “folder” in the Search Bar?

The very top selection that pops up will be “Folder Options”.

Why go through the hassle when you can be there now?

WOW! Make Your Computer Run Like New (Maybe BETTER)!

Amazing Software Makes Windows Run Up To 300% Faster!

It's The Absolute BEST $8.97 You'll Ever Spend On Your PC!

You're Computer Will Be Smokin' Fast!

Customize, Tweak, Secure, Optimize, And Make 'Er FLY!!

OK, these are STILL going like crazy! Thank YOU to the 1000+ who have ordered! If you don't have it yet, you;re missing out big time! Just wait till you check out this mind-blowing deal on System Mechanic 7

It's by far, the very best program I've ever seen for getting the most out of Windows! You'll be blown away at what this does to your PC - You'll think you got a new computer! I tell ya, personally, I think this is just outstanding! I've seen a ton of software, but the improvements this makes is really nothing short of amazing! It optimizes Windows to be the way it SHOULD have been when you purchased it! Read on - and get ready to be really - and I mean REALLY- impressed!

First, I'm seriously impressed at just how easy this software makes it to really get your computer crankin'! I mean, I don't think there's anything on your computer this can't tweak and optimize!

To test, I installed it on my personal machine and it did a quick scan, and then it scared the poop outta me! it came up with a serious warning about a few security problems and gave mesome really helpful speed improvement suggestions. Now here's the cool part - With just a couple mouse clicks, I'm now enjoying a MUCH faster -and much more secure - computer! And I honestly thought I was as tweaked out as I could be! Not even close - this was incredible - and all automatic!

What can it do for you? Let's talk speed - this takes your slow PC and turns it into a Ferrari - you'll think your computer is new again (maybe better than new)! It'll be just flying through programs and impressing the livin' daylights out of ya! This has a whopping 19 different waysto crank up the speed on your machine! In fact, many systems see an absolutely incredible 300% improvement after just some automatic adjusting by this program! WOW - that's worth $8.97 in anyone's book!

Want to surf the internet at up to 300% faster? Oh, man, this can help! Windows isn't necessarily optimized for the fastest connection out of the box, but this program can grab your settings and squeeze out the speed - you'll surf the internet like crazy! Who wouldn't want to surf up to 300% faster?!!? Heck, it even has a speed tool to measure how faster you connection speed is! Just fantastic!

Want more? - Sure ya do! Another thing this does that I'm in absolute love with is it lets youcustomize over 100 "secret" Windows settings! Stuff that you always wish Windows would let you adjust but there isn't really any direct way to do it. This makes it point-and-click easy!! You can:Optimize the way Windows' Start Menu behaves, speed up networking performance, log in automatically, edit your computer registration data, change multimedia behavior, improve pagefile security, customize explorer's context menus, edit advanced administration options, and much more!!

Oh, and just wait till you point your mouse at the Automatic System Maintenance section! I just love this! This part of the program will watch in the background and wait till the system is idle. As soon as you're not using the computer, it will work in the background tuning your computer for absolute peak performance! Here's the really cool part - just touch your mouse, and it stops what it's doing and gives the system back to you! Really! If you've ever been slowed down by a stubborn anti-virus that insisted on scanning while you were working, you know just how cool this is! Oh, and it even lets you pick and choose what optimizations to run!

Another automatic feature I think is just brilliant is the "One-Click" option! It's just what it sounds like - just click the button and System Mechanic runs all of its system enhancement programs andcranks your system up to the next level! Just a button push away! It makes it easy for EVERYONE to have a smokin' system!

Of course, no utility suite would be complete without some killer security tools - and this has the best! This program will quickly scan your system and help you find all the holes - then just plug them with a mouse click! I was really surprised when it found not one, not two, but THREE major holes on my personal PC! I clicked the mouse and the world was safe again!

Oh, and that's not all! This also includes both a world-class Anti-Virus (one of the easiest, most comprehensive AVs I've ever used) and a really top-notch Firewall! Either one retails for more than we're selling the entire suite for! WOW!

PLUS - it destroys spyware, adware, malware and more. OK, put it this way - if it was made to attack your system, this is going to seek it out and destroy it like a battalion of ticked off Marines!

OK, all that's great, but what if your PC is really messed up - like it won't boot? This software can handle that too! Just pop in a recovery CD and System Mechanic will examine your system and get your computer running right again! If you've ever had that sick "why isn't my computer booting" feeling, you can appreciate how great this will be next time it happens!

One more thing and I'll try to stop! System Mechanic is just fanatical about grabbing up wasted space on your hard drive! This just blew me away when it found a whopping 1.5 GIG of wasted hard drive space! Geeze - I've had whole hard drives that were smaller than that! This made grabbing that space back a mouse click away! I tell ya - you just can't go wrong here!

OK - can ya tell I'm impressed? There's actually a LOT more this can do, but I don't want to write a book on it (OK, maybe I've already come close)! I'm currently running this software and couldn't be happier with it. My system is definitely faster than before it was installed and I just love the performance increase! If you only buy one software program this year - GRAB THIS!

Your price? Get this - just $8.97 and US shipping is FREE! AND - this is a 3 license pack too! WOW!!! We've never had it this cheap!!! When you think of all this can do, for $8.97, it's the biggest no-brainer in software history! Check it out:

http://store.worldstart.com/product.php?productid=4052

PS - Seriously, after just using this for a short time, I wouldn't be without it. If WorldStart wasn't carrying it, I'd happily pay the $70 for it somewhere else - it really is that good! PLEASE - take a look at this one, I've NEVER seen a better, more complete utility program! Blows everything else right out of the water!!

PS - The price will increase to $18.97 very soon (probably like, tomorrow)!

Return of the Run!

Q: I miss the “Run” command from Windows XP. Is there any way to get it back in Vista?

A: Certainly! Windows XP users are used to having their Run Command, but when Vista came out this function was condensed down into the Search Bar. It works basically the same, but there are purists out there that miss the Run Command, proper; as it originally was in XP.

So let's learn how to bring it on back!

Right-Click the Start Button and choose “Properties” Then select the Start Menu tab and click the “Customize” button.

About three quarters of the way down the list of customization choices, put a check next to the “Run Command” option, then click “OK

Ta'da!

If you just want to skip permanence, then hit the Windows Key + r. That should bring up the Run Command right away.

Run, Runner!

MS Office

Time to Wrap It Up

If you're an MS Word table user then it's quite possible that you've spent some time trying figure out how to wrap the text of your document around the table.

There isn't an overly obvious answer so I'm sure that many of you have just given up on truly wrapping the text around the table.

For those of you who have unsuccessfully searched here's what you need to know.

As always, before you can wrap text you must already have the table in the document. Once it is there then right-click on the table.

From the menu that opens choose Table Properties.

(For those of you with Word 2007… you can also find reach the Table Properties dialog window using the Table Tools, Layout tab of the Ribbon, Table Properties button.)

Now that everyone is in the Table Properties dialog window you need the Table tab.

The bottom section is where you'll find your two text wrapping choices.

If you select Around and click OK you'll find that the text in your document has nicely wrapped itself well… around the table.

This works the same way text wrapping works with graphics - you move the table and the text readjusts to wrap around its new location.

Time for me to "wrap it up"!

Binoculars With A Built-In Digital Camera!!!

Bushnell

Big 7x Image Magnification!

Bushnell

There have been times when I've gone to a football game and had my binoculars and wished that I could take some pictures of what I was seeing. Sure, you can schlep along a digital camera with a zoom lens, but it's not much fun watching a game through a camera lens! (Trust me...I tried it - but only for a few minutes.) That's why I was so excited when we got these in! After all, this could be a great solution for all of us who have struggled with the "binocular vs. camera" conundrum!

I got to admit, I was "cautiously optimistic" when I first saw these. But I saw these were made by Bushnell - a trusted, old "stand-by" in the field of optical products. So I thought, "What the heck...let me give 'em a run thru!"

These work just like a regular set of binoculars but it has the added feature of a built-in digital camera! So you can "See" a scene just like you normally would with a pair of binoculars. But, then you can also "Save It", and then "Download It" to your computer and even "Edit It"! Hmmm...that seemed interesting!

Sure enough just like a regular set of binoculars, there's a "focus" knob. Actually, I thought was even better than most binoculars cuz it's in a convenient spot - right underneath the base of the camera, right by your thumb so it's easy to adjust. Also, there's an "eye adjustment" feature so you can get a perfect fit for the distance between your eyes. Heck, there's even a an additional setting to adjust for individual eye strength! (Something called a "diopter setting", apparently a feature that Bushnell binoculars have. Didn't expect to find something like that.) Maybe I was really onto something!

Come to find out that it has "fully coated optics for optimum light transmission", plus it uses a "Porro prism system". Not sure about all that - all I know is that the magnification was pretty darn strong (7 x 18 mm magnification) and the view was very clear! In fact, it was better that other binoculars I've used that were much more expensive!

As they say, "the proof is in the pudding", so I wanted to see what kind of pictures it would take. So I ran outside a took a few shots and well, you tell me!

This first one of, "Old Glory", it was about 60 feet away from where I was standing. What's interesting is that it was pretty windy out when I snapped that shot and there's not a blur in the shot!

Binoculars

Next, I thought I'd see how these would work with a moving object - just like if you were at a sporting event (football game, car race, whatever). Now, it just so happens this street has a posted speed limit of 50 mph, so I think it's safe to assume this car was moving at about that rate. And once again, no blur!!! What do ya think...not bad, heh?

Binoculars

This is EXACTLY the thing for taking "stop action" shots! Also, I like that fact that this has a 1/4" standard tripod mount. Especially handy if you want to use the "Timer" feature and jump in the shot yourself!

Also, this neat little binocular-camera has a button on top that let's use access different features:

Timer - will take a photo after a 10 second delay when you press the shutter

Repeat Shot - This is neat. It takes a rapid series of 3 consecutive photos about 12 second apart when you press and hold the shutter button.

High/Low Photo Quality - This allows you to take photos at different resolutions (640x480 or 320x240).

Movie Mode - This lets you take short movie clips ("avi files", at 320 x 240)

Delete - Lets you delete the last photo or all photos on the camera

There's an LCD Display at the top of the camera that shows you what "Modes" you selected and also shows you how many pictures you've already taken.

As far as downloading the pictures to your computer, it couldn't be easier! It comes with a software program by Roxio, which makes excellent software products! (Now that I really didn't expect!) Just load the CD into your computer, plug one end of the USB cord (comes included!) into the camera and the other end into your computer and you're ready to roll! Just click on a couple of icons to transfer the pictures onto your computer and that's all to it! You can even edit your pictures directly from their if you want, which is perfect for someone who's pretty new to taking digital pictures and all. If you've been taking photos for a while and you're comfortable doing more advanced editing you can use a more advanced program specifically designed for photo editing, like this one we use.

And check out all the accessories that comes with it including: a USB Cable, a Carry case and carry strap!

Bushnell

I got to tell you, I was really pleasantly surprised with this little Bushnell beauty! Has just enough features to be really handy and useful without being too complicated! Easy to use and it works great! Plus it's compact so you can stick it in your pocket or attach the carrying case to your belt and go that route! This is great for sight seeing, sporting events or even family get togethers!

This Bushnell "binocular-camera" is something we know you're gonna love so we're gonna let you have this at a price that'll put a smile on your face (Say, "Cheese!) Grab one of these units today for just $39.97 and US shipping is FREE!!!

Have you noticed that most new computers don't have floppy drives? And if you want a floppy drive, you have to special order your computer! I didn't notice that until I went to put a floppy disk in my computer (after I'd had it for about a year) and couldn't find the floppy drive!!! Looking from the outside, I could imagine that this was quite entertaining for anyone that might have been watching! There I was, crawling around on the floor with a flashlight trying to find where my floppy drive was "hidden." If this was a sitcom, I could see them flashing to me every few minutes still on my hands and knee searching for this floppy drive. Unfortunately, after about a half hour, I had to accept that my computer did not have a floppy drive! Boy, did I feel like a nitwit!

But then, I began to panic ~ "How am I going to get the data off all of these floppies I have laying around?"

Tip of the Day

Eye Friendly Appearance in Windows XP

Do you have eye sight problems and is it sometimes hard for you to see certain things when you're using your computer? Well, as a user with glasses, it has always been difficult for me to use Windows XP, because the default settings are all very small. I have tried to enlarge some of them, but they still looked small and caused my eyes major strain. If you have the same problems, keep reading! I may be able to give you some hints as to what you can do to give your eyes some comfort!

This method is a one time setting change only. In the future, whenever you start your Windows XP, its appearance will be "eye friendly" and you won't have to deal with the eye straining formats any longer.

Here's how you do it:

Changing to the Classic Start Menu

1. Right click over the Start button and choose Properties.

2. Under the Start Menu tab, select the Classic Start menu option.

3. Click OK.

Changing Appearance of Windows XP to Windows Classic

1. Find an empty space on your Desktop (not on the shortcuts) and right click and choose Properties.

2. In the Display Properties window, go to the Themes tab and choose Windows Classic from the theme list.

Next, go to the Appearance tab and click the Advanced button.

3. In the Advance Appearance window, click over the text of Active Window.

  • Active Title Bar: Size - change to 21
  • Color 1 and Color 2: Choose the colors that shade your eyes, not any that cause a glare.
  • Font type: Select Tahoma (it's easy to read). Size - select 12 (if it's still small for you, just enlarge it and vice versa). Color - choose black.

Then, click over the text of Normal.

  • Menu: Size - change to 21. Color 1 - choose gray.
  • Font type: Select Arial (it's easy to be read too). Size - select 12. Color - choose black.

Next, click over the text of Message Text.

  • Change the size of the menu to 21.
  • Font: Arial. Size - 12.

Finally, click over the text of Windows Text.

  • Color 1: Click Other. For background color, I prefer the light yellow to shade my eyes, but choose what is best for you.
  • Basic colors: Choose yellow to decrease the darkness. Do you see the left arrow on the right side? (See the following screenshot if you haven't found it yet). Go ahead and click up on the arrow. Keep going up until there is no glare left for you. If you prefer more darkness, click lower and lower.

Once you're done, return to the Themes tab, click the Save As button and then click the Save button.

Then please wait while Windows changes the settings you have chosen.

Now, the first problem is solved. Restart your computer and your eyes will experience a whole new computer! Make sure you keep tuning into this week's newsletter for more information about eye appearances and also some help with less mouse usage!

Optical Illusions

I adore a good optical illusion, so I was very happy when Steve directed my attention to this site. The site is set up blog style, so all you have to do to navigate it is scroll down the page!

The first image is stellar. A man sitting on a ledge, looking over a road that seems to be going straight downwards, it is certainly one of my favorite images here.

As you are viewing the images, make sure you click them so you can see them full size. You can use the back button on your browser to navigate back to the main page. I think it’s certainly important to viewing the ones that move.

Next you move onto animations that are really moving, the question here is, which way are they actually moving? Clockwise? Counter-clockwise? You decide.

The stereo images move, but in a unique way. They have the feel of the way waves of heat will make what you’re looking at move. So it gives the impression that the swimmer really has just dived into the water, the fire is blazing away, and I’m guessing you should feel like you’re walking through the forest.

Point of view illusions are next! And the site has dedicated quite a few pictures to the cause. These are absolutely amazing, be sure to check them out! The site focuses on buildings at first but after you look at some 3D Transformations, you’ll come right back to point of view illusions. I love the picture of the man holding up the island.

After you’ve made your way through all the optical illusions on this page, I encourage you to click the Read Part 1 link – where you will find even more optical illusions and some amazing sidewalk chalk art, as well as, amazing feats of advertising!

Check it out today!

This "Travel Link" has been going like gang-busters!!!

Looks like people have been scooping these up not just for themselves but also pickin' up a few for family and friends as gifts! We managed to get a few more of these to keep up with the demand we've had, but it's easy to see why these are hard to keep on the shelf.

So please, hurry and secure your own "Travel Link" ASAP! These little suckers are movin' quick! Over the past few weeks we've had a number of products sell out and some of our readers were disappointed cuz when they hit the shopping cart, the "cupboard was bare"!

This is a great way...THE Best Way...we've seen, to transfer files both quickly AND easily. So be sure to grab one or two of these today!

Transfer Files Without A Computer!

Memorex TravelLink

If You Like "Quick and Easy", You'll Want This...

The TravelLink is a small device that can transfer data from one place to another - all without a computer. "BAM"...you're done! OK, that's the "Readers Digest" version of what this does - which actually may be enough for those who are "tech" savvy, and who'll just immediately scroll down to the bottom of the page, click on the link and get one of these for every person that's on their "gift" list.

For those who don't already understand and appreciate what this can do, keep reading...you soon will!

It won't do anything as dramatic as save your life or bringing about world peace, but you can count on this saving you a whole lot of money and an equal (if not greater) amount of time, hassle and frustration. And you'll write to thank me. Let me tell you why...

Let's say you're on vacation, in the middle of "who knows where". You got your camera and your just snappin' away, havin' a ball. All of a sudden, you see a great scene (maybe of the kids, a unique site, could be any of a thousand things) you "click" and ....nuthin'! The camera card's full. Better pull out another empty one, except you forgot to bring it! No problem, someone in your party says they have a card you can try. Problem is, it's the wrong kind. (Your camera uses a "card" file but they actually have a USB flash drive.) How much would you be willing to pay for an empty card right about now? That is, if there was a store anywhere around.

Or how 'bout this common scenario...

You bump into some friends (or family) and they've got some great pictures, or music files, or actually ANY KIND OF FILE - on memory card...or a USB flash drive...or on their camera...or on their mp3 player or on...well, as you probably already figured out, it could be on ANY USB device or just about ANY kind of memory card or drive...it DOESN"T MATTER!!!

Anyway, they got some kind of "stuff" (you fill in the blank) on "some kind of drive/flash" (again, you fill in the blank) and you want it. They'll probably say they'll email all of that to you, "Just don't you worry, you'll get it!" Don't tell me...you're still waiting! Here's the weird part: those "files" were RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU...but you couldn't have 'em. You had to wait for the other person to get to their computer! Well, you'll never have to hear that excuse again!!!

So, why do I call the TravelLink, the "Ultimate Digital Device"? Get this - You'll be able to transfer files between any two USB storage devices! Think of the possibilities!

Just imagine - you can transfer files between almost any combo you can think of!

Transfer between:

Your camera's memory card and a USB flash drive
Two USB flash drives
Your external HD and your friends MP3 player
A digital camera and a flash drive
A memory card and external HD
A friends memory card and your digital camera
A memory card and MP3 player
Two memory cards (if they are different types)
An external HD and a USB flash drive
A digital camera and external HD

OK, you get the picture! Pretty much any combination of USB and / or memory card storage you can come up with (memory cards, external HDs, flash drives, MP3 players, digital cameras etc) you can transfer files between with this! All without a computer! WOW!!

That means music, photos, and other types of electronic data can be quickly transferred between flash cards,...even between MULTIPLE Card Formats or USB flash drives, digital cameras, external hard drives, or MP3 players. And you can move individually selected files between devices or copy the entire contents of the device all at once. And do it quickly and easily. The cool LCD screen makes it simple to do.

And it's portable. Not, "like your laptop portable". I'm talkin', "fit in the palm of your hand" portable. And, it runs on 3 "AAA" batteries so you can take it anywhere...and you probably should because it's as useful as it is versatile. By the way, you might want to keep an extra one in your laptop case 'cuz this can double as an "8-in-1"card reader! (Told you it was versatile!)

(Check out all the places to "plug-in" below! There's TWO USB ports, one "mini" USB, and a "card" slot that reads eight different types of cards. And a "USB to mini-USB" cable is included!)

Memorex TravelLink

What's more, Memorex sells these off their site for $69.99!!!

But we'd figure you'd rather get a better deal than that (do we know our readers of what???) So, how about $15.97 and U.S. Shipping is FREE!!! Nope...that's no misprint. But, you better jump all over this...as in NOW!!! After you, if YOU like a great deal, chances are a lot of other people are thinkin' the same thing. Here's your link:

P.S. - Oh, and that thought of grabbin' one of these as gifts for folks on your shoppin' list really IS a great idea! O.K., I'll stop talkin' so you can start clickin'...

Pink Flower

This was actually in my front of my house! It had rained the night before, and this pink flower (lily?) was looking especially pink.

Mossy Stream

This just has to make you think "Spring"! Taken last April in the Smokys - and man that water was cold!

Valley Of Fire Road

Just about an hour's drive from Las Vegas is this amazing place! It really does look like that when you round the top of the hill! You think you're on another planet (and may sci-fi movies were shot there, including Star Trek Generations)

Here's April's wallpaper. It's all free, so enjoy!
