How Windows 7 Will Make XP Users Happy!

Here's some exciting news for all of you Windows XP lovers out there. It was just announced this weekend that Microsoft has designed a 'Windows XP Mode' for the upcoming Windows 7! Why do you care?

Let's say you have a beloved Windows XP program that refuses to run on Windows 7 (you know, like what happens with Vista all the time). Well, this new feature will allow you to switch into a "compatibility mode" and run a Windows XP compatible program under Win 7 with no troubles - or at least that's the idea. So, if you've been longing to upgrade XP, but can't stand the thought of infecting your computer with Vista, then this might just be OS you've been waiting for!

Unfortunately, there is some bad news. The rumor is that this XP mode will only be available on the Professional and Ultimate versions of the Windows 7. This means that the home editions, (you know, the ones most people use), will not have this feature. Well, here's hoping that they will change their mind on this little decision and let all of us have this awesome feature.

~ Gary

Special Note From Steve - I just wanted to drop in my personal recommendation for this one! You have just GOT to check out this remote control we found! I already took 3 home - one for each TV! It flips open for total control, but what I love is that when it's flipped closed, you get your basic volume and channel control buttons on the outside - easy to get at and uncluttered! Check this out, one of the very best ideas I've seen in a long time! A similar device even won an award for innovation from CES, so I'm not the only one who thinks it's a great invention!

It's NOT A Phone! It's A BRILLIANT Idea!!

It's An Ingenious Remote Control You're Gonna LOVE!

Finally! No More Tables Full Of Remotes!!!

PLUS- Flip It Closed And...

Simple Channel & Volume Buttons Are On The Outside!

Control ALL Your Devices From ONE Remote!

FLip Remote

At Last! The Solution To "Remote Control Madness"!!!

If you like EASY, you're gonna love this remote!! First of all, this single remote will control up to FOUR different devices at once! Including TV VCR DVD, Cable Satellite or TV/DVD Combo unit!

Just imagine...no more having to deal with 2, 3 or 3 or even 4 remotes! No more having to search and try to find the remote to the TV and then the one for the Cable/Satellite, and then the one for the VCR, and then one for the DVD player even! This one remote will replace all of those!

Here's another thing you're gonna love: this is Easy to Program!

The problem with most remote controls is they're hard to programming, right? Well this remote has a really cool feature that allows the remote to automatically "discover" devices connected to your system!

PLUS, this is compatible with most major brand-name TV and audio/video components!

Why The Heck Does It Look Like A Flip Phone?????

Yeah, you've probably noticed that this remote looks just like a "Flip" phone! Well, there's actually an absolutely ingenious reason for that!

Let's say you're watching TV. If you're like me, the buttons you use the most are the ones that change the channel and volume. With most remotes, you have to hunt and search for those buttons among a zillion the other ones! With this "Fllip" remote, just close it shut and you've got a clean and uncluttered look with only the buttons you use the most on top! No more having to hunt and search, no more accidentlypressing the wrong buttons! When it's closed, it even fits into your pocket! How's that for convenience?

Sentry 4-in-1 FLIP Universal TV Remote

Oh, and get this - it even features a sleep timer so you can set the TV to automatically turn off! Now THAT's what I call relaxing!!!

Grab one of these, "ditch" your other remotes and make your entertainment time a whole lot less stressful and a lot more fun!! You can pick up today for just $12.97 and U.S. shipping is FREE!!!

P.S. - You know...if you're like me and you've got more than one TV, you might want to snag one of these for each end of the house while they're at such a great deal!

WOW!! Purple SD Card Mania!!

High-Speed SD Card BLOW-OUT!!

This Amazing Class II Card Is TWICE As Fast As A Regular SD Card!!

Why pay $40 or even $50 dollars at a "Big Box" store?

Scoop this up for only $10.97!San Disk Ultra

Oh, did we score a DEAL for you today!! We just got a very limited number of high-speed 2GB SD Cards from SanDisk - check this out!

The big thing with these guys is the amazing SPEED!! This is a Class II card, so it's 2X as fast as a standard SD card!

Why do you care? Two reasons!

First reason - have you ever taken a series of photos and found that the shooting came to a halt because the camera was busy "writing the file to card" or something similar? Nothing more frustrating than pressing the button only to have nothing happen!

A faster card lets the camera get the pictures to the card quicker (2X as fast with this card), so you don't see nearly as many of those delays! I personally always buy the fastest cards I can JUST for that reason! I've missed too many photos because of "busy writing" warnings!

Reason 2? When you transfer the files from the card to the computer, a faster card lets you get the job done faster! Why wait 10 minutes to transfer the data, when this may be able to do the same thing in 5?

And this card has a bunch of memory - 2 GB! WOW!! That's enough to hold over 500 photos from your typical 8 MP camera! Just think...no more having to swap-out cards in the middle of shooting or trying to keep track of a lot of individual cards scattered all over the place! Now you can keep everything on one card!

Personally, I really like the non-slip areas on each side of the card...makes 'em easier to handle! Also there's a built-in "write-protection" switch so you don't have to worry about erasing your previously recorded photos or other data! (That's a real lifesaver!)

Remember, this is from SanDisk...so you know these are "top-of-the-line"! Not only are these well made, but SD cards are compatible with tons of devices, from digital cameras, mp3 players, digital camcorders, PDA's, even some cell phones. In fact, SanDisk's are used by more devices than any other card in the world!

I'm sure were gonna sell scads of these really cool high-speed SD cards! So do yourself a favor a grab one, while the gettin's good! And at just $10.97 it doesn't get much better than that!

P.S. If we still got 'em in stock, actually might want to grab a couple extra to have on hand in case you need 'em!

Computers 101

Q:
Is there a way to empty "My Recent Documents" or to just get rid of it ?

A:
"My Recent Documents" holds the last 15 items that you opened. You can delete individual items in the usual manner (Right-click then choose "Delete"), but the number stays at fifteen. That's because the contents are in a hidden file called "Recent" that is stored in your user profile. With Windows XP you have a few options:

You can clear this list by right-clicking the Start button, choosing "Properties", then clicking "Customize". Now click the "Advanced" tab and click "Clear List". Zap! The files are gone. While you're there, you can also remove "My Recent Documents" from the Start menu—just clear the checkbox for "List My Most Recently Opened Documents"

image

If you have Tweak UI for XP you can have "My Recent Documents" clear itself when you log off. Open Tweak UI ( Start/Run then type in "TweakUI"), click "Explorer" then check the box for "Clear Document History On Exit".

image

You can get Tweak UI from the Windows XP Power Toys web site...
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

So, depending on your needs, there's a way to do it.

MS Office

Directly to the CAPS

Shift + F3. How often do you use that one?

Remember its little gem? It takes the highlighted text and rotates it between the Title Case of lowercase and UPPERCASE letters.

But, what if you're tired of rotating through the choices and just want to jump straight to UPPERCASE?

Can we find a quick way to make that change?

Well, obviously we're looking for a key combination. (After all, if we have to use the Format menu, Change Case choice or even a button on a toolbar/Ribbon, it's going to take way too long).

Here's my humble suggestion. Next time, try Ctrl + Shift + A.

  • To change a single word, simply put the cursor in the word and hit Ctrl + Shift + A.
  • Changing multiple words can be done too. Highlight all of them before you use Ctrl + Shift + A.

In either case, to toggle the text back to its original form, use Ctrl + Shift + A again.

There you have it. A quick, direct way to get to the CAPS!

Have A High Definition TV?

It's Not REALLY High Def Unless You're Using An HDMI Cable!

Discover How Incredible Your HDTV Can Really Look!

Other Cables Can't Deliver True High Definition - You MUST Use An HDMI Cable!

And We Have A Gold-Plated Deal For You Today!

Wanna here a sad little story that repeats itself all the time? People go out and buy an amazing new HD TV (Plasma, LCD, DLP ect) and when they plug it in and hook it up, they discover that, much to their dismay, the picture, well, sort of sucks. Why? It's all the in cables!

Unless you are connecting your DVD, Cable Box, Satellite Dish, Bluray, ect to your TV via an HDMI cable, you're just not getting the quality you paid for. Period. Other cables simply can't provide the bandwidth you need to get HD video to your TV at full resoultion. It's a shame to spend hundreds - or thousands - on a top notch TV, only to plug it in with crappy cables.

I can tell you from experience you'll be blown away at what a difference the right cable can make in your picture! I've used 'em all - from the basic yellow/red/white AV cables, to "S" video, then Component Video then to HDMI - and it gets better each time (with HDMI being kind of the hill)! Only problem is, HDMI cables can be crazy expensive at the big box stores - $50, $100, even $200!!

Want an affordable HDMI cable? We have 'em for you! These fantastic HDMI cables are going to upgrade your HD TV's picture instantly! We're talking 24K gold plated connectors, copper braided outer shield, and a design that's going to get you an amazingly clean, crisp picture!

Bottom line: If you've got an HD TV and you're not using an HDMI cable, you're not watching HiDef TV - you're really not.

Want to grab a cable? Well, this 6 foot HDMI cable is just $12.97 and US shipping is FREE!

Anyone with an HDTV who's not using a cable is like a guy who won't drive his Ferrari past 25MPH! Grab one today!

http://store.worldstart.com/product.php?productid=4953

PS - Obviously, make sure your TV has HDMI inputs (any current HDTV will) and make sure whatever components you're plugging in do as well (again, any newer equipment will).

Stop Sticking That Flashlight In Your Mouth!

Awesome Headlamp Is Soooo Much Better!

Amazing Dirt-Cheap Price Too!

You'll Wonder How You Lived Without It!

Man-oh-man, I wish I had one of these last week when my faucet broke. There I am, curled up under the kitchen sink, pipes everywhere, trying to install a new kitchen faucet! Do you realize how dark it is under there? I have a flashlight wedged in between my teeth, my neck twisted in the most uncomfortable position so I can see what I am doing, trying to unscrew the faucet and put a new on in its place! This job would have been so much easier if I would have had one of these awesome head lamps!

You know how it is with a regular flashlight - when you need two hands, you always end up clenching it in your teeth. Yeah, not only is it kinda gross (at least with my grimy old flashlight), but pretty much impossible to point the light in the direction you want it to go. Of course, there's the old balance-it-where-you-want-it-to-point method, but seems like it always falls off or rolls the wrong way!

That's why you just gotta try one of these little headlamps - you'll wonder how you ever got along without one! Okay, I know some might think these look a little funny wearing them on your head (I did), but once you actually use one, you'll never go back to a normal flashlight! They're THAT good! Oh, I'll tell you what - since this flashlight is hands free, you'll absolutely LOVE how you can use BOTH hands while you work (hike, camp, ect)! PLUS it's easy to point it at the perfect angle to see exactly what you are doing. It's amazing how much less frustrating a job can be when you're not spending half the time trying to maneuver the light into position! Again, just wait till you try one - you'll never go back!

Oh, and wait till you see how bright it is - you'll absolutely love it! This features one really bright Krypton bulb surrounded by 6 High-Intensity LEDs! It has all kinds of power adjustments, so you can throw just the right amount of light at whatever it is you're using it for! From night hikes, to camping, to working around the house or on the car - this really has you covered!

I got it out the other day when I was crawling around in my shed in the backyard, I allowed my friend to borrow it when he changed the oil in his car, and my other friend, who participates in triathlons got two- one to wear while she is running, and another to strap on her bike as a headlight.

PLUS this is really built to last. It's well designed and really tough. It's water resistant, comfortable, and seems to run forever on a set of 3 "AAA" batteries!

With so many uses, you absolutely can't go wrong with ordering one (or two, or three) of these! And the best feature of these is the price. Get this- for just $9.97 and US Shipping is FREE, you will enjoy amazing hands-free light! Order yours NOW!!

http://store.worldstart.com/product.php?productid=3540

PS: You will really enjoy this light!!! You gotta try it! Hurry, order yours now before the price increase to $14.97 on Wednesday

Tip of the Day

Disabling the Vista Welcome

As you've probably figured out, the Windows Vista default setting is set to show the Welcome Center screen every time you start up your computer. While the Welcome Center is mildly interesting the first time you see it, you'll more than likely get tired of it rather quickly. You can easily change the setting though by unchecking the Run option under the Startup button, located at the bottom of the Welcome Center screen.

1.) To do that, go to Start, Control Panel.

2.) Select Welcome Center.

That takes care of that!

Now, similarly, the Vista Sidebar is also shown by default. While some users will find the Sidebar and its widgets very useful, you may want to use that space on your desktop for something else. If that's the case, you can turn the Sidebar off. Here's how:

1.) Go to Start, Control Panel.

2.) Right click on the Windows Sidebar icon in the system tray.

3.) Choose Properties.

4.) Uncheck the "Start Sidebar When Windows Starts" checkbox.

5.) Click OK.

That's it I hope many of you can get some good use out of this one!

Today's Feature

Buying a Camera: Money Saving Tips

A penny saved is a penny earned. So, before you head out to buy a new digital camera, take a look at the following handy money saving tips that can really do you a world of good!

Tip 1: Buy Only If You Need To

If you already own a digital camera and realize the newer version won’t do much to either expand your portfolio or get you more money, it’s best to hold off on your purchase until you really need it. When you do decide to buy that camera, be sure not to go on a spending binge and buy things you don't really need, such as a new camera bag, a memory card or another lens.

Tip 2: Go for Second Hand Cameras

Technology changes every minute and cameras aren’t excluded. There are newer versions coming out every day and this can be used to your advantage. Since the basic technology in all the digital cameras is long lasting, it’s just one feature, less or more, that makes all the difference. Last year's top of the line camera will most likely be replaced by a newer version, but the basic specifications of the new model will stay, more or less, the same. So, what better way is there than buying last year's stock, since buying the new items won’t make a world of difference. Buying second hand equipment won't hurt you either, particularly when it comes to electronics. Most electronic items keep getting upgraded every now and then, resulting in an exodus of old models and an influx of newer ones. This helps in two ways: You can upgrade just as quickly, either by buying a newer model or buying a second hand one, which is almost new and yet available at bargain prices. You win!

Tip 3: Some Homework Goes a Long Way

With the Internet allowing you to compare prices and discount shops offering a killer deal, it’s best to make the most of these avenues before making a new camera purchase. Keep a list of various quotes on hand so that when you are ready to make a new purchase, you can ask for a price match or a discount. Most shops would be happy to give you a discount and gain a customer, as opposed to losing business to a competitor. If your local camera shop is too expensive, try BHPhoto.com or Adorama.com. If you have more time on your hands, you can check out Ebay as well, where there is a good chance of getting a good bargain. Some online shops even offer free shipping on purchases over a certain dollar amount, so be sure to keep that in mind as well.

Tip 4: Try It Before You Buy It

Shopping can make you crazy, particularly when you hear of steal deals. No matter how discounted the rate might be, it’s best to try out any equipment before you buy it. Most times, we buy in a hurry and regret it later. The easiest way to burn your money is to buy the wrong camera equipment. You can find the best deal on the planet, but if you buy the wrong equipment, you're going nowhere. Once you know what you want, use these tips to get the best deals on camera equipment.

Tip 5: Sell Redundant Cameras Immediately

If you are the kind who goes for newer versions just because of that new low light feature added to your camera or because of that anti-shake feature, you should go for it immediately. Why, you ask? Well, because it’s best to upgrade more frequently so that you can sell your second hand camera at a better price. Also, make sure you sell your camera before a new model comes out.

Tip 6: Make Sure Your Camera Has a Good Resale Value

Always remember your camera’s resale value when you are buying one. This means that it’s best if you stick to known and tested brands, rather than the unknown and unpredictable. Also, it can be difficult to find prospective buyers if your camera is not a popular brand. This way, not only will you have made an enduring purchase, but you also have the option of selling it at a good price and going for the next upgrade later on.

Tip 7: Cash Transactions Offer More Bargaining Power

This is a basic, yet largely neglected rule. When you are shopping, it’s best not to be tempted and buy just one item. It’s best to accumulate your resources and buy one big thing, rather than several items. This way, you can negotiate a bigger discount.

Tip 8: Have Your Own Favorite Store

This is the best way to get what you want and at a good discount. Again, this is one rule of thumb that most of us seem to have forgotten with the onslaught of newer and newer stores and multiplexes. But the old rule of supporting individual stores never dies. If you support your local camera shop on a regular basis, you'll more than likely get better discounts. Most camera shops give discounts to their regular customers.

Now, go out and put these tips to good use and get the best digital camera you can buy for your money!

ASL’s Lego Page

It is absolutely incredible what you can do with LEGO toys! Here you will see incredible sculptures and mechanisms. Navigation is easy just click the link to the one you want to see and you’ll be taken to its page.

Can you imagine Rodin’s Thinker made out of LEGO bricks? Well you don’t have to because now you can see it! I think that sculpture, as well as, the Dilbert figures to be incredibly well done.

But the reason I’m bringing you this site today is for the way the site’s author and a friend translated Escher’s work into LEGO art. For example, check out Escher’s Ascending and Descending. All of the Escher buildings are amazing to look at; I’d even check them out first! I’m boggled by how close to the originals they are and I think you will be too.

After you’ve seen those Escher sculptures make sure you check out the Mathematical Sculptures. I think you’ll really be wowed by the Trefoil Knot, and the Figure Eight.

And if you love to build with LEGO toys – you can even get instructions on how to build these sculptures yourself!
This site is sure to be one that you pass on to your friends and family. Check it out today!

WOW!!! One of our suppliers just scored a jaw-droppin' deal on some fantastic 9 LED Flashlights - and we're passin' the savings on to you! We're talking just $6.97 for a 9 LED Flashlight! We've never had 'em that cheap! Heck, I'm not sure anyone has ever had 'em that cheap! It's a knock-out deal, that's for sure!

Oh, and wait till you try 'em! Turn it on BUT don't look into it - this baby is really BRIGHT! It's absolutely amazing how much light those 9 LEDs throw out! You wouldn't think a flashlight this small would be this BLINDIN' BRIGHT!!! WOW!!

Speaking of size - wait till you feast your fingers on this little guy! It's super-compact and easily fits in the palm of your hand! Makes it super-easy to take anywhere! I already have one in each of my cars, and my wife keeps on in her purse. It's so small you don't even know it's there - till ya need it! Grab one for each of your cars, your camper, boat, house, garage, camera bag - anywhere you need a small, bright, reliable light!

Plus, this thing is REALLY well built too! Don't let the price fool ya! These aren't some cheap plastic lights - this bad boy is SOLID! We're talking a heavy-duty all aluminium barrel that can really take some serious pounding! Plus, the grip is just fantastic and I can personally attest that even when your hands are dripping wet (or snow covered), it's easy to keep ahold of!

Get this - since this is an LED flashlight, it seems to run FOREVER on a set of batteries! Changing batteries or running out of juice is going to be a very RARE thing now! Oh, PLUS don't forget that you won't ever have to worry about the LEDs burning out - Heck, even if you kept it on 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, it would take 11 YEARS before they would burn out! WOW!!!

If you've looked at LED flashlights, you know they are the pedigree of the lighting world - for a light like this, you're looking at least $20-$30 easy. Your cost? Again we're talking just $6.97 and US Shipping is FREE!! It's the BEST DEAL we've ever offered on an LED Flashlight! Give it a try, you'll be glad you did!

Pink Flower

This was actually in my front of my house! It had rained the night before, and this pink flower (lily?) was looking especially pink.

Mossy Stream

This just has to make you think "Spring"! Taken last April in the Smokys - and man that water was cold!

Valley Of Fire Road

Just about an hour's drive from Las Vegas is this amazing place! It really does look like that when you round the top of the hill! You think you're on another planet (and may sci-fi movies were shot there, including Star Trek Generations)

Here's April's wallpaper. It's all free, so enjoy!
