Quick Tips

Big Blinky Cursor!

Is your cursor a little too slender to see? Do you often times wish that it would eat a cheeseburger or two and gain a few pounds? Well, electronics typically don't eat, so we're going to have to go the traditional route, via the control panel!

For Windows Vista:

Go: Start>Control Panel>Ease of Access Center>Make the Computer Easier to See

Towards the bottom you'll see an option to set the thickness of the blinking cursor. Just set it to the desired width and away you go!

For Windows XP:

Go: Start>Control Panel>Accessibility Options. Choose the Display Tab and then under Cursor Options you can set your width.

Voila! Instant cursor weight gain!

Special Note From Steve - WOW! These went like crazy yesterday! THANK YOU to the hundreds who ordered - you're gonna LOVE it! If you missed out, yesterday, you really need to take my personal recommendation for this one and give it a go! I already took 3 home - one for each TV! It flips open for total control, but what I love is that when it's flipped closed, you get your basic volume and channel control buttons on the outside - easy to get at and uncluttered! Check this out, one of the very best ideas I've seen in a long time! A similar device even won an award for innovation from CES, so I'm not the only one who thinks it's a great invention!

It's NOT A Phone! It's A BRILLIANT Idea!!

It's An Ingenious Remote Control You're Gonna LOVE!

Finally! No More Tables Full Of Remotes!!!

PLUS- Flip It Closed And...

Simple Channel & Volume Buttons Are On The Outside!

Control ALL Your Devices From ONE Remote!

FLip Remote

At Last! The Solution To "Remote Control Madness"!!!

If you like EASY, you're gonna love this remote!! First of all, this single remote will control up to FOUR different devices at once! Including TV VCR DVD, Cable Satellite or TV/DVD Combo unit!

Just imagine...no more having to deal with 2, 3 or 3 or even 4 remotes! No more having to search and try to find the remote to the TV and then the one for the Cable/Satellite, and then the one for the VCR, and then one for the DVD player even! This one remote will replace all of those!

Here's another thing you're gonna love: this is Easy to Program!

The problem with most remote controls is they're hard to programming, right? Well this remote has a really cool feature that allows the remote to automatically "discover" devices connected to your system!

PLUS, this is compatible with most major brand-name TV and audio/video components!

Why The Heck Does It Look Like A Flip Phone?????

Yeah, you've probably noticed that this remote looks just like a "Flip" phone! Well, there's actually an absolutely ingenious reason for that!

Let's say you're watching TV. If you're like me, the buttons you use the most are the ones that change the channel and volume. With most remotes, you have to hunt and search for those buttons among a zillion the other ones! With this "Flip" remote, just close it shut and you've got a clean and uncluttered look with only the buttons you use the most on top! No more having to hunt and search, no more accidently pressing the wrong buttons! When it's closed, it even fits into your pocket! How's that for convenience?

Sentry 4-in-1 FLIP Universal TV Remote

Oh, and get this - it even features a sleep timer so you can set the TV to automatically turn off! Now THAT's what I call relaxing!!!

Grab one of these, "ditch" your other remotes and make your entertainment time a whole lot less stressful and a lot more fun!! You can pick up today for just $12.97 and U.S. shipping is FREE!!!

http://store.worldstart.com/product.php?productid=5063

P.S. - You know...if you're like me and you've got more than one TV, you might want to snag one of these for each end of the house while they're at such a great deal!

Computers 101

Q:
I've been using Windows Vista since it first came out and I think I'm close to using up all my disk space. Can you please tell me how I can clear up some of that space? I haven't quite figured out how to do it in Vista yet. Thanks so much for your help!

A:
Oh, I'm so glad you asked! We've preached and preached on this topic for Windows XP, so there's no reason why we shouldn't do the same for Windows Vista. The disk cleanup process is a little bit different with the Vista operating system, so it's really no surprise that you're having a hard time finding it. I'm sure you're not the only one either. So, if you need to free up some of your disk space on your Vista computer, keep reading, because that's exactly what I'm going to teach you how to do today!

We all know that hard drive capacities are growing more and more everyday, but that doesn't mean we're still limited on the storage space we have. Most people think that if they have a large hard drive capacity, they won't have to worry about running out of room. Well, that's just not the case! It really comes down to the more space you have, the less time you'll spend cleaning it out, which can lead to major build up. Your data will just continue to pile up and once you do finally run out of room, it will take you forever to get the job done.

Yes, you can try doing frequent clean ups, like deleting unused files and uninstalling unnecessary programs, but what if all of that isn't enough? After so much time, doing those things just won't cut it. And that's when the Vista Disk Cleanup comes into play. Just like in XP, the Disk Cleanup will help you free up your disk space so that you won't reach the point of having no storage room left at all. This process is very easy to do with Vista, because it allows you to search for the files that are safe to erase and it lets you make the final decision on what goes and what stays. Here's how to use it!

First, right click on the Computer icon on your desktop and choose Properties. Next, click on the General tab and then hit the Disk Cleanup button. A window will then come up asking you what you'd like to remove, etc. Just choose what you'd like to delete and press OK. Like I said before, you have the final say on what is deleted and what's not. You gotta love that!

There is also a More Options button you can use if you want to clean up some files from other users on your computer. For example, if you want to clear out some of the files your children put on your PC, you can do that here. Note: Keep in mind that you may be asked for your Administrator password before you can begin this though. Once you're all set, you can choose between two other options.

The first is the Programs and Features choice. This one allows you to uninstall programs you no longer need on your computer. With this, you can also see the size of each program, which is nice, because you can really see what's weighing your storage space down. The second option is System Restore and Shadow Copies. This one allows you to remove all your restore points (except for the most recent ones) and any backup images you may have on your hard drive. Getting rid of that old data will really free up a lot of your space.

That's all you have to do to enjoy more storage space again. So, if you haven't done a Disk Cleanup in awhile, I recommend doing it very soon. It won't hurt, I promise!

MS Office

Something A Little Less Busy For One

When using MS PowerPoint to you choose to use slide themes or designs?

Ever find that while you're working on a single slide (or two) and there's so much going on that the background you've chosen is now a liability?

Maybe it leaves you wishing for a solid or subtle gradient background that compliments the slide show but only for the selected slide?

Short of removing your design or theme completely what are your choices?

You may have found some way to change background - but were disappointed that it seemed to change all the slides instead of just the one you intended to change.

I suppose you could draw a rectangle, use an appropriate fill color and move it behind the text and graphics.

Not necessarily a bad plan but wouldn't it be nice to just change the actual background of the individual slide?

Well, fortunately we can. In fact we can do a variety of things, including the suggestion above but today I'd like to cover formatting a slide background that doesn't include using a different design in the same presentation.

So, here's my plan:

First we'll right-click on an area of the slide to be changed that is not already covered by an object.

When the menu opens choose Background or Format Background depending upon the version of PowerPoint you're using.

If you're using an older version of PowerPoint then you'll get a dialog window that looks like this:

To change the background click the down arrow next to the current background color and choose Fill Effects.

The next dialog window will give you access to all kinds of formatting choices.

You can set a gradient fill, picture, texture or pattern… just take a look through the tabs and find what suits your needs.

Click OK when you finish choosing the new background.

Back in the Background dialog window be sure to check the option to "Omit background graphics from master". This will put your newly created background in place of all the busy stuff you were trying to temporarily eliminate.

To change just one slide click Apply. To change them all click Apply to All.

Now it's time to move on to the information for my PowerPoint 2007 users.

After you right-clicked on the slide and chose Format Background you got the new Format Background dialog window.

Things here work pretty much as they always have - you just have to locate the elements in their new locations.

Once your changes are made click Close to apply it to one slide and Apply to All, and then the Close button, to make the changes throughout your presentation.

And that's all there is to it! A right click and a few settings will allow you to easily have color coordinated and yet less busy slides within your presentations.

Tip of the Day

Disabling Errors in Windows XP

Almost every Windows XP user has encountered some type of error while working on programs, files, etc. Needless to say that some of these errors feel unnecessary, and can get quite annoying at times. So, today I am going to show you how to disable those errors while still enabling critical errors to occur. Let’s get started!

1. First, right-click the My Computer icon in the Start menu.

2. Next, select Properties to open up the System Properties window.

3. Now, select the Advanced tab.

4. Then, under the Advanced tab, click the Button that reads Error Reporting at the bottom of the application.

The Error Reporting window should now appear.

5. Next, select the item that reads Disable Error Reporting. Although you are choosing to eliminate all error reporting, you will still be notified when critical errors occur as long as you keep the box checked that says “But notify me when critical errors occur” under the item: Disable error reporting.

6. Finally, click OK to exit the window and then click OK again to exit the System Properties window.

That’s it! You should not receive those annoying error messages again, but will still receive the critical ones. Have fun!

Hello again! We are going to pick right back up again where we left off by going into part two of Facebook Week! As I said, today we will be dealing with customizing your Facebook profile with information, images, and more. Hopefully, some of your friends that you requested on Tuesday will have accepted by now. If they have, you will see a little red notification in the lower right hand corner. If you click on it, it will expand.

It is very important in the future, because it will show you what’s new with your account when you log into Facebook.

1. On your homepage, click on the banner that reads View and edit your profile.

2. Your profile information is broken into four sections; Basic, Personal, Contact, Education and Work. After you finish with Basic Information click Save Changes, and Personal Information will expand.

3.You will notice right away in the Personal Information that a drop down list appears with suggestions, which makes filling out the form a bit easier.

Continue filling out information and saving your changes, and then click Done Editing.

4. The profile is complete. You should have something that accurately describes you and that you are proud of.

5. Now for the profile picture. If you have a webcam, you can use that to take a picture live. But the more popular option is to upload a picture saved on your computer. Click on Upload a Profile Picture.

6. A pop up will appear. Select Browse and find your image. It will automatically upload and be displayed on your profile.

7. Pictures are a very important feature of Facebook. If you an active photographer at parties and meetings, and want to upload an album of picture follow these steps.

8. Click Add Photos and enter the album information like displayed below.

9. Browse for the images, and accept to the Terms of Service and click Upload Photos.

10. You can now add captions to the pictures. If the pictures contain your friends you can tag them, by clicking on their face and selecting their name from the drop down box. They will then receive a notification to view your album.

11. In fact, as a new Facebook user it’s a good idea to look through friend’s albums, and you may find pictures of yourself that you’ve never seen and tag yourself in them.

Whew! Now that we’ve finished our initial setup, it is time to start communicating with our friends. I cannot wait to show you! See you next week!

Today's Feature
wotThese days it seems like there are more and more malicious web sites cropping up every day. These sites can either cause harm to your computer, or just annoy you and waste your time. I'm sure that I'm not the only one that feels that way, too. Well, now we can fight against malicious websites with a little add on for Firefox and IE called Web Of Trust (WOT).

WOT is pretty simple and easy to use, but also very powerful. It allows users like you and me to rate a site in a number of categories like trustworthiness, vendor reliability, privacy and child safety. These ratings are then averaged and displayed for all other WOT users to see. Here is how it works:

First, install WOT. It works for Firefox and IE (IE8 recommended). You can install WOT here: http://www.mywot.com/

After installation, you will go through a short registration. It's all built in and only takes about a minute. Once you are done with registration, you are ready to go! The first thing you will notice is the little circles next to links. Here are what they look like:

wot2

This is a Google search result for "Worldstart". The Green circles indicate a safe site. If you mouse over the circles, it will tell you more about our individual ratings.

Now, if you want to rate a site, you can do that too, right from your browser. If you look at the top of your browser toolbar, you will see a larger circle. Simply click on this and choose your ratings for the site. Easy, right?

I really like this add-on because it allows people like me and you to not only know about the safety of a site, but also if people just dont like it. This helps everyone save some time in their day.

Just in case you missed the link, you can download WOT here: http://www.mywot.com/

Stay safe out there!

Amanda's Coolsite

Artocracy

This is an interesting art site. Here you can view art, download free art, find art to purchase affordably (you never know what may move you), talk about art, and even submit art.

I’m always torn about posting art sites, because while they are usually incredible, most artists are selling their work on their site (as well they should). I usually consider it non-commercial enough if you can see the amazing art without it being watermarked with copyrights all over the image. If you can appreciate it, in it’s integrity then who cares about sale links.

What I like about this site is that with an e-mail address, you can get free art downloads. They bring the art to you via the download, in exchange for you receiving their newsletter that seems like a fair deal to me.

On top of that you can see the current Exhibit for free. Right now it’s Pink: why not? I absolutely adore that photo of the peony. But be sure to check out the exhibit archives as well, you never know where you’ll find a gem.

Plus, if you are an artist you can submit your art. So if you’re interested in digital artwork, you might want to check out the Submit section to see if you work could be included.

Conceptually I adore this site for making art available to the masses, while trying to support the artists who make it. Be sure to check it out today!

We're talking just $6.97 for a 9 LED Flashlight! We've never had 'em that cheap! Heck, I'm not sure anyone has ever had 'em that cheap! It's a knock-out deal, that's for sure!

Oh, and wait till you try 'em! Turn it on BUT don't look into it - this baby is really BRIGHT! It's absolutely amazing how much light those 9 LEDs throw out! You wouldn't think a flashlight this small would be this BLINDIN' BRIGHT!!! WOW!!

Speaking of size - wait till you feast your fingers on this little guy! It's super-compact and easily fits in the palm of your hand! Makes it super-easy to take anywhere! I already have one in each of my cars, and my wife keeps on in her purse. It's so small you don't even know it's there - till ya need it! Grab one for each of your cars, your camper, boat, house, garage, camera bag - anywhere you need a small, bright, reliable light!

Plus, this thing is REALLY well built too! Don't let the price fool ya! These aren't some cheap plastic lights - this bad boy is SOLID! We're talking a heavy-duty all aluminium barrel that can really take some serious pounding! Plus, the grip is just fantastic and I can personally attest that even when your hands are dripping wet (or snow covered), it's easy to keep ahold of!

Get this - since this is an LED flashlight, it seems to run FOREVER on a set of batteries! Changing batteries or running out of juice is going to be a very RARE thing now! Oh, PLUS don't forget that you won't ever have to worry about the LEDs burning out - Heck, even if you kept it on 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, it would take 11 YEARS before they would burn out! WOW!!!

If you've looked at LED flashlights, you know they are the pedigree of the lighting world - for a light like this, you're looking at least $20-$30 easy. Your cost? Again we're talking just $6.97 and US Shipping is FREE!! It's the BEST DEAL we've ever offered on an LED Flashlight! Give it a try, you'll be glad you did!

Pink Flower

This was actually in my front of my house! It had rained the night before, and this pink flower (lily?) was looking especially pink.

Mossy Stream

This just has to make you think "Spring"! Taken last April in the Smokys - and man that water was cold!

Valley Of Fire Road

Just about an hour's drive from Las Vegas is this amazing place! It really does look like that when you round the top of the hill! You think you're on another planet (and may sci-fi movies were shot there, including Star Trek Generations)

Here's April's wallpaper. It's all free, so enjoy!
