Quick Tips

Shift + End

Here's a quick shortcut for anyone who's found themselves acting like a telegraph operator on their backspace key. You know what I'm talking about. You've just finished a line of text, it doesn't look right, so you want to delete the whole line. “Ratta-tatta-ratta-ratta”, and your finger falls off...

There's a better way! Simply put your cursor at the beginning of the line you want to delete and press Shift+End. This will cause the whole line to be selected, and all you have to do after that is press delete or backspace to finish the job! The best part is that because your cursor is already at the beginning of the line, all you have to do is type!

Deletion, simplified!

Don't Fork Out $400.00 For Adobe PhotoShop!

We Have A Great Photo Editing Program Just Like It For $8.97 TODAY AND TODAY ONLY!!!

Make Professional Image Editing EASY!

Edit, Enhance, And Share Your Photos!

You're Gonna Be BLOWN AWAY!!

Seriously - just look at the screen shots below - this really looks and performs just like Adobe Photoshop! This has to be the most incredible software find we've ever come across! You'll save HUNDREDS and have pretty much the same program! WOW!

Let me guess - you'd love to have Adobe PhotoShop but that $400 price tag holds ya back. Wouldn't it great if someone made a program LIKEPhotoshop, only cheaper? Oh, we found it! It's PhotoDesigner Pro and just look at those screen shots below - it looks and acts just like the $400 Adobe Photoshop! Layers, tools, filters - give this a try and you'll think you're using Photoshop!

At first I wasn't too sure about this one, could it really be like Photoshop? Let me tell ya, once I installed it, I was really surprised! You open it up and it really looks and performs pretty much exactly like Adobe Photoshop! The tools and layout look just slightly (very slightly) different, but it's all there! It features layers, adjustment layers, masks, effects, has pretty much all the same filters, rulers, tools - it's all there! Heck, going through the menus, you have to remind yourself that you're NOT using actually Photoshop!

Oh, just wait till you see the tools - that was my concern, but they're all there! The clone stamp, gradient tool, red-eye removal tool, crop tool, paint bucket, smudge tool, burn & dodge tools, the blur & sharpen tools, scratch removal tool, color picker, text tools, shapes, selection tools like Magic Wand or "shapes" - whew - on and on! You name the Photoshop tool, this has it!

Same goes for the rest of the program - the filters from Photoshop are all there! My personal favorites - the High Pass, Unsharpen Mask, Gaussian blur, Sharpen, and Lighting Effects - all there along with a total of 44 regular filters at your disposal! Everything you need to add that little extra punch to your photos!

As for the the image adjustments, you have 'em all too! We're talking Curves, Levels, Contrast, Hue / Saturation, Brightness / Contrast, Color Balance, Selective Color, Channel Mixer, Gradient Map - and more! It's all there - just like Photoshop!

I tell ya, if you want Photoshop but can't justify the expense, this is a no-brainer! Heck, even if you can justify the expense, why not take a look at this first? I've never seen a program that was soooo close to Photoshop!

With this program you are getting tons of ways to use professional level tools that will have everyone wondering who you hired to edit your photos! This program goes above and beyond basic photo editing software. It not only acts like Photoshop - it actually works with Adobe Photoshop files too - you can open Photoshop images, edit them and save them back into the native Photoshop format!! Of course, it will work with all the photo files on your computer and work with your digital camera / scanner too!

In addition to looking and acting like Photoshop, it's jam-packed with over 200 instant effects (these are REALLY cool), 140 picture brushes and 30 tutorials- all of which make this program unbeatable! Add your own message to your photos with the editable text function. Use the automated images correction for quick and easy photo editing. Create your own amazing effects with a few clicks of your mouse! Automatically create awesome web animations! Even turn your documents into print-ready PDF's with encryption and password protection!

Like I said, pretty much Photoshop's twin! It even has a pressure sensitive feature that works with a graphics tablet if you have one! Depending on how hard you press on the tablet, the program will know whether or not you to use a think or a thin brush! How absolutely sweet is that?

After playing with this for an hour or so (It's really fun), I came to the conclusion that anything I've been doing with Photoshop could be done in this - and using the same tools and techniques too! Why pay $400 for Photoshop when there's something like this on the market? You've got to try it - I promise, you'll be impressed!

Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned pro, this photo editor is going to amaze you! But the price is incredible in itself. You could pay almost $400.00 for Abode Photoshop, or you could check out this great program for just $8.97 and US Shipping is Free! Heck, for that kind of money, you can't afford to pass this one up! If you don't agree that this is just like Photoshop, you can even send it back for a refund within 60 days! No risk to you at all - give this a try, it's really unbelievable how much Photoshop DNA this seems to have!

Heck, you can even take a quiz at the end of the chapters to test your knowledge!

Plus, you'll really love the way the presentations progress too- they won't leave you behind scratching your head! You'll start off with the basics, then move on to more advanced topics as you learn. Of course, you can always skip back and review, but let me tell ya, as good as this software is, you probably won't need to! Q:
What do all those error codes (like 404) mean?

A:
It happens to all of us. We're surfing along, and up comes an error. What do all those error codes mean? Here's a quick rundown of the most common:

400 - Bad Request - You probably typed in a URL wrong, the server has no clue what you're looking for, or you aren't allowed to have access. Usually, it's a matter of the URL being typing in wrong. Maybe you mixed upper and lowercase letters or something.

401 - Unauthorized Request - you tried to get to something on the web server you're not allowed to play with. In other words, you ain't on the party list.

403 - Forbidden - You can't access the page. You may not have access (it may require a password), or it may be blocked from your domain.

404 - Not Found - The page you were trying to look at was not found on the server. This is probably the most common error you'll come across. What has probably happened is that the web page you were going to has been removed or re-named.

500 - Internal error - Usually caused by a CGI error. You fill out a form, but the script used to process it is not working properly.

503 - Service Unavailable - The server may be overloaded, down, or have other similar problems. Try later.

MS Office

Outlook Startup Choices

Here's a tip that comes to you courtesy of a reader's question. She was looking for a way to force Outlook to open straight to the Inbox.

Sounds like a very relevant and legitimate concern.

I don't know about you, but when I start up Outlook, I'm looking for my e-mail. Don't get me wrong, there's lots of other great stuff in Outlook, but 99.9 percent of the time, I'm there for the e-mail.

With that as the priority, I can clearly see why having the Inbox open as the program starts is the way to go.

Wait, I can hear you already.

Some of you would much rather have the calendar or journal or some other aspect of Outlook open upon the program startup.

Well, that's no problem either. This is a tip for everyone! Your biggest decision is which part of Outlook to choose.

Okay, it's time to get down to business.

If you're running MS Outlook 97, here's the information you need.

  • Go to the Tools menu, Options choice.
  • On the General tab, you're looking for the Startup Settings section at the bottom.

  • The "Startup in this folder" field has a list of choices. From the drop down list, select the aspect of Outlook you chose as your startup place.
  • Click OK to make the change and return to Outlook.

It's really that easy!

Now, for those of you who are using a newer version of MS Outlook (including Outlook 2007), your directions are just a little bit different.

  • You'll begin in the same place. Go to the Tools menu, Options choice.
  • You're looking for the Advanced Options button, located on the Other tab.
    • Once you've clicked the Advanced Options button, a dialog window will open where you can make your choices.
    • This is what you'll find for Outlook 2000 - 2003:
    • At the top, in the General settings section, you'll find the "Startup in this folder" field. Choose the aspect of Outlook that works best for you from the drop down list.

For my Outlook 2007 people the "Startup in this folder" field looks a bit different:

  • You'll find that you're given a Browse button instead of a drop-down list of choices.
    • This will open the Select Folder dialog window where you have a complete list of choices for that first view in Outlook 2007.

    • Choose a location and click OK.

Now it's time for the Outlook 2000 - 2007 users to all click OK to exit the Advanced Options window.

Click OK again to exit the Options window.

    Voila!

You now have tailored Outlook to meet your needs, right from the very start!

WOW!!! Are These Cool Or What???

Binoculars With A Built-In Digital Camera!!!

    Bushnell

    Big 7x Image Magnification!

    Bushnell

A MUST Have For Every Photo Buff!!!

There have been times when I've gone to a football game and had my binoculars and wished that I could take some pictures of what I was seeing. Sure, you can schlep along a digital camera with a zoom lens, but it's not much fun watching a game through a camera lens! (Trust me...I tried it - but only for a few minutes.) That's why I was so excited when we got these in! After all, this could be a great solution for all of us who have struggled with the "binocular vs. camera" conundrum!

I got to admit, I was "cautiously optimistic" when I first saw these. But I saw these were made by Bushnell - a trusted, old "stand-by" in the field of optical products. So I thought, "What the heck...let me give 'em a run thru!"

These work just like a regular set of binoculars but it has the added feature of a built-in digital camera! So you can "See" a scene just like you normally would with a pair of binoculars. But, then you can also "Save It", and then "Download It" to your computer and even "Edit It"! Hmmm...that seemed interesting!

Sure enough just like a regular set of binoculars, there's a "focus" knob. Actually, I thought was even better than most binoculars cuz it's in a convenient spot - right underneath the base of the camera, right by your thumb so it's easy to adjust. Also, there's an "eye adjustment" feature so you can get a perfect fit for the distance between your eyes. Heck, there's even a an additional setting to adjust for individual eye strength! (Something called a "diopter setting", apparently a feature that Bushnell binoculars have. Didn't expect to find something like that.) Maybe I was really onto something!

Come to find out that it has "fully coated optics for optimum light transmission", plus it uses a "Porro prism system". Not sure about all that - all I know is that the magnification was pretty darn strong (7 x 18 mm magnification) and the view was very clear! In fact, it was better that other binoculars I've used that were much more expensive!

As they say, "the proof is in the pudding", so I wanted to see what kind of pictures it would take. So I ran outside a took a few shots and well, you tell me!

This first one of, "Old Glory", it was about 60 feet away from where I was standing. What's interesting is that it was pretty windy out when I snapped that shot and there's not a blur in the shot!

    Binoculars

Next, I thought I'd see how these would work with a moving object - just like if you were at a sporting event (football game, car race, whatever). Now, it just so happens this street has a posted speed limit of 50 mph, so I think it's safe to assume this car was moving at about that rate. And once again, no blur!!! What do ya think...not bad, heh?

    Binoculars

This is EXACTLY the thing for taking "stop action" shots! Also, I like that fact that this has a 1/4" standard tripod mount. Especially handy if you want to use the "Timer" feature and jump in the shot yourself!

Also, this neat little binocular-camera has a button on top that let's use access different features:

Timer - will take a photo after a 10 second delay when you press the shutter

Repeat Shot - This is neat. It takes a rapid series of 3 consecutive photos about 12 second apart when you press and hold the shutter button.

High/Low Photo Quality - This allows you to take photos at different resolutions (640x480 or 320x240).

Movie Mode - This lets you take short movie clips ("avi files", at 320 x 240)

Delete - Lets you delete the last photo or all photos on the camera

There's an LCD Display at the top of the camera that shows you what "Modes" you selected and also shows you how many pictures you've already taken.

As far as downloading the pictures to your computer, it couldn't be easier! It comes with a software program by Roxio, which makes excellent software products! (Now that I really didn't expect!) Just load the CD into your computer, plug one end of the USB cord (comes included!) into the camera and the other end into your computer and you're ready to roll! Just click on a couple of icons to transfer the pictures onto your computer and that's all to it! You can even edit your pictures directly from their if you want, which is perfect for someone who's pretty new to taking digital pictures and all. If you've been taking photos for a while and you're comfortable doing more advanced editing you can use a more advanced program specifically designed for photo editing, like this one we use.

And check out all the accessories that comes with it including: a USB Cable, a Carry case and carry strap!

    Bushnell

I got to tell you, I was really pleasantly surprised with this little Bushnell beauty! Has just enough features to be really handy and useful without being too complicated! Easy to use and it works great! Plus it's compact so you can stick it in your pocket or attach the carrying case to your belt and go that route! This is great for sight seeing, sporting events or even family get togethers!

This Bushnell "binocular-camera" is something we know you're gonna love so we're gonna let you have this at a price that'll put a smile on your face (Say, "Cheese!) Grab one of these units today for just $39.97 and US shipping is FREE!!!

    http://store.worldstart.com/product.php?productid=5044

P.S. - It has a "rugged" design so don't be afraid of bringing this along where ever you go...after all, that's what it's for!!!

    Tip of the Day

    Branding Your Computer

Guess what! I have some great news for all of you! Today, I'm going to show you how to make some very cool modifications to your computer. I'll share with you how you can make your experience with Windows XP a whole lot easier and more fun too!

For this tip, I'll be showing you a couple of ways you can modify Windows to personalize and brand it. You know, just to make sure everybody knows it's yours! We'll start off with the system properties window. By default, a computer's system properties window looks like this:

To access that, right click on the My Computer icon on your desktop and select Properties. Some of you may have a manufacturer logo below the Windows logo. If so, how would you like to add your logo and some text there? I thought you might be interested, so let's do it!

1.) First, an image must be created to place there. For that, I'll be using Microsoft's Paint program, which is included on all Windows computers. To access that, go to Start, All Programs, Accessories and choose Paint.

2.) Since the image can be no larger than 180x115 pixels, we need to resize the canvas. To do so, go up to Image and select Attributes. In the box that appears, select Pixels as the measurement unit and enter in the correct units, shown once again below. Then click OK.

3.) You can use the tools located on the toolbar to create your logo. I used the fill tool to make a black background and the text tool to make white text. I also copied and pasted a small clip art of a computer. You can do whatever you want with this. Just choose something that will help personalize your computer for your very own. Here's what I came up with:

4.) Now, go up to File, Save As and save the file in the directory of C:\Windows\System32 with the name of oemlogo.bmp.

That does it for the logo. Now, let's move on to entering the text. We will be using Notepad for this part.

1.) Get to Notepad by going to Start, All Programs, Accessories, Notepad.

2.) Next, copy and paste the information below into the text area. You won't want it to be exactly the same as mine (there's more on that below), but go ahead and copy and paste it all first. Then, once you have it in Notepad, you can change everything to read what you want. That way, you'll know for sure that you have the basics entered in correctly.

    [General]
    Manufacturer=Neil's PC
    Model=Dell Inspiron 8100
    [Support Information]
    Line1=This PC was created
    Line2=by Neil Patel
    Line3=Enjoy using it!
    Line4=*************

3.) After you have that pasted in, replace everything after the equal signs (=) with your own information. You can add more lines at the end too, but be sure to use the same format as I did.

4.) Once you have that the way you want it, go up to File and choose Save As. Again, save the file in the directory of C:\Windows\System32, but this time, under the name of oeminfo.ini. Also, be sure to change the file type to All Files instead of Text Document.

Another great mod is editing the text on the Start button. Everybody who uses your computer looks at that, so it’s a great way to express your individuality. Now, there is a manual way to execute this mod, but a nifty program called Start Button Renamer makes it much easier to do. You can download that program right here. There is no installation necessary, so just double click the icon called StartBtn.

Now, just type the text you want your Start button to read in the box and click Rename It. Viola! Your start button has been changed. Look at my new Start button below. I love it!

I have one more mod for you today and that's posting a box to come up every time you log on and off your computer. Now, once again, there is away to do this manually, but you can use this simple script I found for you instead. It's much easier that way. You can download the script here and then open it up. You will see this screen:

Just enter the log in text you want and click OK. Then enter the log off text you prefer and click OK.

Now, whenever you (or other users) log on and off, you will see the designated message. How awesome is that?!

I hope you enjoy all of today's mods!

    Perfect Portions

I’ve gone from cooking for five people to cooking for two, and let me tell you, it is hard to adjust the amount you’re cooking to get the right portion size. It took me month to figure out that instead of a whole box of pasta I only needed about a third of it for two of us. Mind you, I didn’t keep cooking a whole box; I went down gradually till I got the right amount.

I would have loved to have this site to take the guess work, the trial and error, and agony out of that process.

You start by picking what you’re cooking from the categories they’ve provided, select from the list, unless you’re actually cooking one of their popular ingredients. Next, you’ll select how many people you’re cooking for. It will then calculate how much you need to cook and display the answer with the best way to measure it.

Once you’ve set the amount of people you are serving, you can just change food items from the list at the bottom to plan your whole meal. So you could start by having it measure how much pasta you’ll need, and then you can choose from the list and see how many strawberries you need for desert. This will make meal planning much easier – especially if you’re cooking for a dinner party where you will serve more people than you’re used serving.

This is a great site that will help you cook the perfect portion every time. This site is great for meal planning, dieting, and your everyday cooking.

    PREPARE TO BE BLOWN AWAY!!!

WARNING: Make Sure You Have The Volume Turned DOWN Before you Plug These in!!

These Portable Speakers Are A "Concert Hall In a Box"!!!Folding Speaker System

I'VE GOT TO TELL YA WHAT HAPPENED when we first got these in. I Plugged these into the headphone jack of my desktop computer and clicked on an Internet radio station to get some music.BUT I didn't bother to check the VOLUME LEVEL of my computer! When I turned on the power to these portable speakers, it startled me so much, I JUMPED ABOUT A FOOT OUT OF MY CHAIR!

WOW!!! WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT THESE "LITTLE" SPEAKERS COULD BE THAT POWERFUL!!

I'm tellin' ya...you're gonna be surprised how POWERFUL this little speaker system is! Whew!!!

What's funny is this speaker system is actually made so you carry it around with you wherever go. They're about the size of an eye glass case and the speakers themselves fold up and tuck safely away inside the hard-shell case. So when I first saw these I thought, "These are so small! How POWERFUL could these actually be? Well, I found out quick enough...PLENTY POWERFUL!!! These things ROCK...and you're gonna love 'em!!!

What I like about these is that they work with ANY AUDIO DEVICE that has a headphone jack! So you can use this with your mp3 player, satellite radio, laptop computer, CD player, portable DVD player even portable game! (The kids will LOVE to hear their gaming devices take on a "BIG 3-D sound!)

PLUS, you don't have to plug these into an AC electrical outlet because they work on four "AA" batteries, so you can play your audio devices just about anywhere! which makes 'em REALLY convenient! There's a audio cord that's neatly attached to the speakers, and you just plug that into whatever device you want to listen to! And when you're done, just unplug the cord and tuck it back into the case! THAT'S A REALLY A GREAT idea not only for easy travel but to protect the speaker system, too!

What's REALLY AMAZING about these speakers is that YOU CAN EVEN USE THESE WITH YOUR DESKTOP COMPUTER! How's THAT for versatility! So, if you don't have a set of speakers for your desktop computer or you're not happy with the ones you have, before you rush out and buy a more expensive set of speakers, PUT THESE to the test just like I did! You're gonna LOVE the sound! Plus - you'll be saving yourself a LOT of money!

And the "icing on the cake" is that you'll ALSO have a FANTASTIC set of portable speakers that you can take with you anywhere and play your portable devices! Oh man!!! How sweet is THAT? The only thing that can make this even sweeter is an amazing price - $14.97 and US shipping is FREE!!! Is that crazy or what???

I've heard small computer systems that were in the $40-50 range that didn't sound HALF as good as these beauties! These are something you're gonna want to have for home AND on the go so grab one now at this crazy price!
