Quick Tips

Deleting IE 7 Cookies

Lately, several of you have been asking about deleting cookies in Windows Vista and while that's a valid question, I think we all may be a little confused about the whole thing. For starters, cookies don't really lie within your operating system, rather they come from your Web browser. So, even if you're using the operating system of Vista, your cookies are still stored in whichever browser you use, such as Internet Explorer or Firefox. (Also, just to make sure we're all on the same page here, if you're not familiar with cookies, you can read all about them here). Okay, with all that taken care of, let's continue!

From all of your questions about cookies in Vista, I've come to the conclusion that you're really asking about cookies in Internet Explorer 7. Vista comes with IE 7 as the default Web browser, so if you're new to using that, let's go over how you can delete cookies from there. To begin, go to Start, Control Panel and double click on the Internet Options icon to open the Internet Properties box. (You need to be in the classic view for this to work. To get there, just click on the Classic View link on the left hand side of the Control Panel window).

Once you're there, look for the Browsing History section and hit the Delete button. Another window with several options will then come up for you. Click on the Delete Cookies button to get rid of all your stored cookie files. You will then be asked if you're sure you want to delete your cookies, so when you're ready, just hit Yes. Next, hit the Close button and then the OK button to close everything out. That's all you have to do. All of your cookies will be gone for good (that is, until you make new ones!) Either way, this is a good thing to do on a regular basis, just to make sure the information you put on the Internet is kept as safe as possible!

PLUS: Create Outstanding Calendars, Greeting Cards, Albums & More!

Ingenious Print & E-mail Options Save Time & Money!

BONUS! Even Create CD Photo Shows That Play In ANY DVD Player! WOW!

WOW - What A Hit! These were absolutely HUGE yesterday! Hundreds and hundreds of orders all day long - THANK YOU for making this one of our biggest deals of the year! And you did it in just one day! Hey, if you're missing out, you've really got to take a minute and check this one out! We have two sources for these, and we wiped out the first - we'll probably wipe out the second today! Better hurry!

OK, you have this amazing new digital camera - and I'll bet you use it all the time. It's just that, well, what are you doing with all those great pictures you've been taking?  Are they just sitting on your hard drive or memory card? Do you keep telling yourself you've gotta DO something with them one of these days? Quite a project, ya know?  Or is it?

Think about it. Do you:

Wish there was an easy way to edit and make your photos look amazing?

Wish you had a way to easily do special effects?

Wish you could do some cool frames and borders?

Wish you could create calendars, cards, albums, slide shows, and panoramas?

Wish you print multiple photos on one page to save money on paper?

Wish you could easily e-mail photos that were the right size to family and friends?

Well, save you wishes for something else! We just got PhotoStudio Expressions 2.0 and it's the easy to use, powerhouse photo program you've been waiting for!

This software does EVERYTHING - and then it does a little more! Heck, there are features included (like DVD slide shows, panoramas, greeting card creation) that people spend $50 for a stand-alone program to do! All included! Photo editing deal of the decade if you ask me!

First off, just wait till you try the exciting - and amazingly easy to use - photo editing features! You can crop (to specific print sizes or just go freehand), adjust contrast for extra "pop", make a photo darker or lighter, sharpen like crazy, tweak the color (and fix bad color), and more!

Here I am adding some contrast to my moose - just use the little slider and hit Apply:

Oh, and just wait till you see the "Auto Enhance" feature! WOW - this is totally gonna BLOW-YOU-AWAY! One click and the program creates 9 different versions of your shot - then YOU pick the keeper! Just pick the one that looks best and all the work is done automatically! Put it this way - if you DON'T want to spend hour after hair pulling, frustrating hour working on a photo, THIS is the software you want in your corner!

Here I am using AutoEnhance on a deer photo I took this fall. 9 versions - You just pick the one you like:

After you've done the basic adjustments, you may be feeling a little creative. Well, if you do, I have some GREAT news! The geniuses who wrote this program created just a TON of fun effects for you to play with! You can paint, erase, add text, add clipart to your own photos, and more!

Here I am turning my jeep into a cool sketch:

And I've got to tell ya about the frames & borders - WOW - TONS of really cool stuff! Wait till you see all the amazing "edge" treatments you can give your photos! There's 42 different effects and they are REALLY going to "jazz up" your photos! Friends and family are going to be asking how the heck you did it! Little will they know it was JUST a single mouse click!

Here I am adding a cool border to a macro shot I took last spring:

Oh, and just wait till you see the AMAZING filter set this comes with! WOW! You can make you photo look like, well, anything! Lots of fun stuff for distortions (try 'em on faces for hours of fun), tons of cool Make-Your-Photo-Look-Like-A-Painting effects, loads of textures that really create some cool looks, some stunning B&W effects, and more! My favorite is the "old time photo" filter - in a click of the mouse, my photo looks like it was pulled right out of Grandpa's photo album! Very cool!

OK, after you have your photo perfected, then what? Well, you could jump to the printing section and make a make print, OR you can create some amazing projects! This has some really great templates for creating amazing greeting cards, calendars, photobooks and more! All included!

Here I am creating a calendar after I was done with the moose above:

PLUS - this can do a DVD slide show you can play on TV!

Imagine, you can create a Video CD or DVD that you can put into ANY standard DVD player and show off your pictures on TV - it's the new (and vastly improved) family slide show!! Just select the photos you want in your slide show, make any adjustments you like, and create the Video CD or DVD! Also, since this can do Video CDs, all you need is a CD Burner - NO DVD Burner is required! Again, as long as you have a CD burner, you're good to go with this! We've sold software in the past that ONLY did this - and it wasn't cheap! This is INCLUDED!! Absolutely AMAZING!!

Oh, and panoramas! Just take 2 or more shots, one right next to the other with about a 1/3rd overlap. Then, put them into this software and it will stitch them together as an amazing pano shot! If you've never done panoramics - get ready for a treat! You'll love it and this already has all the "expensive" software you need to pull it off - and automatically!

Plus, you've just gotta see the printing features - this is really exciting! This actually allows you to place multiple images of multiple sizes onto a single page! It automatically arranges them so you the maximum number of prints on a page - no more wasted paper! Oh, and another thing - it automatically resizes for printing too! You don't have to manually adjust each and every photo to the size you want - just tell it you want 4x6s (or 5x7s, or whatever) and you're good to go! You'll LOVE it! Printing is actually going to be FUN!!

Here I am getting ready to print a sheet of photos:

By the way, have you ever needed to send a photo via e-mail? Exactly what size should that be? Heck, even if you know the answer, you'd still have to go in and resize your photo, save with a different name, and send it off. Well, this takes ALL the hassle out of it! Just select the usage (on screen viewing - ideal for e-mail, small print, full size) and hit Send! That's it!

Whew, OK, this program can actually do a LOT more than I've listed but I'm guessing you get the idea (and besides, my fingers are getting tired from all this typing)! It's a remarkable program - it makes it incredibly easy for ANYONE of ANY skill level to enhance their photos - and do cool stuff with 'em!

Your price? We're talking just $12.97 for this photo-editing nirvana! You spent a lot of money for your digital camera - why not make the most of the pictures? For this price, you just can't go wrong! Give it a try - you'll be amazed at all you get for less than the price of lunch out!!

http://store.worldstart.com/product.php?productid=4463

PS - This is a limited quantity deal, so you MUST MUST MUST get to the site as soon as you can! Please, don't miss this one - it's the easiest to use photo editing package we've ever come across! Nothing packs this much power and is soooooo easy to use!

Computers 101

Q:
In the past, you've given us some suggestions on how to prevent computer theft, but what if it's already happened? What are we supposed to do if our computers are stolen? It hasn't happened to me, but I did have a friend who had their laptop taken from them and I'd just like to know what we're supposed to do in that kind of situation. Please share any tips you may have!

A:
There's nothing like being prepared and that's exactly what you're doing for yourself by asking this question, so I give props to you! Yes, we have written tips on how you can prevent your computer from being stolen, but we've never really gone into any detail about what you should do when it happens. So, let's go over that today! Also, keep in mind that this is for both laptop and desktop computer owners. Remember that theft can happen to anyone, no matter what type of computer you have. Okay, let's get started!

If you've ever had your computer stolen, you know how stressful it can be. It's always an unfortunate thing, but there are some things you can do to fight it. These are things every computer user should know, so even if it's never happened to you, it's a good idea to keep these things in mind. I really hope it never happens to any of you, but like I said before, there's nothing like being prepared just in case. Below are a few suggestions on what you should do if your computer is taken from you. Let's take a look!

1.) Contact the Authorities - As with any other crime, computer theft should be reported to your local authorities as soon as possible. If your computer was taken from your home, you should report a burglary so that a statement can be written up about your missing property. The sooner you do that, the easier it might be to find your computer and get it back to you. Also, if your computer is stolen, you'll probably want to put an insurance claim on it and insurance companies always ask for a police report, so you'll just be saving yourself some time in the end.

Now, what if you have your laptop with you outside of your home and it's taken from you? What do you do then? Well, for example, if your laptop is stolen while you're at the airport, always notify the airport security about the situation. They'll be able to write up an incident report for you there and then get the police involved if need be. Or, maybe you take your laptop to work with you. In that case, it's always possible that one of your fellow employees will take it. If that happens, you should contact one of your superiors or even the human resources department. They should be able to help you in that type of situation. No matter where it happens, always contact a superior and they should be able to help you get things straightened out.

2.) Always Protect Yourself - After contacting the authorities, you should then worry about protecting the information that was on your computer. To do that, you'll need to be on a computer, so if you can, use a friend's computer, go to the library, a school or just any place that has an available computer with Internet access. Once you've found a PC to use, you should do the following:

  • Log in to any accounts you had set up on your computer (bank accounts, your e-mail account, PayPal, iTunes, eBay, any instant messaging accounts, etc.) and change your passwords. If that information was saved on your computer, whoever stole it could have easy access to all your personal information, so you want to shut that avenue down right away.

  • If you have any other sensitive information saved on your computer (any of your bills, bank PIN numbers, credit card information, cell phone numbers and so on), you should contact those companies to either flag your account or change it altogether. Some companies can even monitor your account for you, just to be sure no unusual activity is going on.

  • Next, you should contact the manufacturer of your computer to let them know what happened. They can make a note in their database that your computer has been stolen and if anyone tries calling in for support on it, they can notify you.

  • You should also take the time to learn more about identity theft, because with your computer gone, you're at more risk of it happening to you.

  • Depending on what you use your computer for, you may have some of your work information saved on it. If any of it is confidential company information, government related information or stored personal information of others, you should notify your employer right away so that they can take the necessary steps to protect themselves as well.

3.) Getting It Back - Once you've taken care of everything else, you can then think about getting your computer back. You'll definitely need your computer's serial and model numbers, so if you don't have that information written down, contact the manufacturer and they should be able to get it for you. You should then give that information to your local authorities as well. That way, if they happen to find your computer, they'll know exactly what to look for and they can easily contact you about it.

You can also try leaving some of your "not so sensitive" accounts open to see if any activity occurs on them. For example, a MySpace account, a Facebook account, a Flickr account, a YouTube account, etc. If you log in to those accounts from another computer, you'll be able to see if anyone else has been using them. If you do notice some activity, that may help in identifying the thief. You should also keep an eye out at local pawn shops and even in the newspaper want ads to see if the thief is trying to sell your computer. You can even try placing an ad in the newspaper for a lost computer. Make sure you describe your computer the best you can and include its serial number. You may even want to offer a reward if it's found. One last thing you can do is visit Web sites like www.stolencomputers.org. Their main purpose is to list and find stolen computers, so they may be able to help you out as well.

Hopefully some of these suggestions will help those of you who have gone through the awful experience of computer theft, as well as, preparing the rest of you just in case it ever does become reality. Stay safe!

MS Office

Quick Copy of Appointments

Do you use MS Outlook's calendar feature to keep track of your appointments and other projects or deadlines?

Have you ever found yourself constantly entering the same or similar information over and over again?

If you're thinking that sounds familiar and you're tired of all the repetition, I have a time saver for you!

Next time, instead of retyping or even copying/pasting your appointment information, try this little trick.

Hold down the Ctrl key and drag the appointment to another date or time.

Voila!

The appointment is now copied to the new time or day. (Keep in mind that if you move it to a new day, it will appear at the same time as the original, so you may need to adjust the time a little bit).

No more retyping. Yes!

More Cool Stuff

WOW!! Can't Go Wrong For $6.97! Lowest Price EVER!

OK, One Last Day, One More Time!

JUST STOP RIGHT THERE!

The Shocking Truth About Your Hard Drive!

Don't Throw Out That Old Hard Drive!!

Don't Give Away Your Old Computer!

You Gotta Read This - It'll Scare The Heck Outta Ya!

News Flash!

Recent studies show that 74% of hard drives sold, given away, or thrown out (in the computer or out) contain data that can be easily read and recovered - and 36% of those hard drives had even been reformatted. You absolutely, positively, have to permanently get that data off of there!!

Do you have an old computer you're thinking about giving away? Maybe an old hard drive that needs to be thrown out? Well, if you do, you MUST GET THAT DATA OFF THERE!!!!

Well, we have some really easy to use software that will keep you safe called DriveScrubber. Just pop the CD into your computer (or make a floppy if you still have a drive for one of those) and reboot. Even if you can't boot to Windows, you can still erase that drive with this software!

Think about it - you wouldn't toss paperwork with credit card, bank, or social security numbers in the trash without shredding the heck out of 'em would you? Of course not! However, day in and day out, people toss out old computers and think that just deleting or formatting a drive is going to get rid of all the personal info they had on it - not a chance!

WARNING - When you delete a file, it's not really gone. You might want to read that last sentence again because it's really important. The area where the file lives on your hard drive simply gets tagged as free space, but until it's overwritten, that data is VERY recoverable. I formatted a test drive and ran recovery software on it awhile ago just to see what would happen. Nearly EVERYTHING was easily recoverable! No problem at all!

If you've ever used your computer to check on your banking, buy a product online, or anything that involves your personal info, then that info might be easily available when you get rid of your old hardware! Yikes!

Don't think it can happen to you? Well, two MIT students did a study. They went and purchased 158 used hard drives for less than $1000 from a web swap-meet type site. When they went through the drives, they found over 5,000 credit card numbers, medical reports, lots of personal and corporate financial information, and gigs of personal e-mail. And get this - 60% of the drives had been formatted!!!

There are people who look for old computers at the curb or in the dumpster just to pull info off the hard drive or sell the drives to others! Plus, if you just "donate" an old computer you have no idea what really is going to happen to it! If this doesn't scare the heck out of you, then you shouldn't be using a computer!

Once you insert the Drive Scrubber disk, your computer will boot to the CD or the floppy, and has an easy to use interface that makes wiping a drive a snap. Just select the drive and select the "erase" button. ALL the info on the drive will be gone - permanently and forever! You can still reformat the drive and install Windows again once this is done - but any info you had on the drive will be completely gone. No worries about anyone ever using your hard drive or old computer to steal you personal info! It's great!

I personally have a couple of old hard drives sitting around that I just didn't want to throw out. Now I'll be able to completely erase them and toss them into the trash knowing that no one will EVER be able to recover any of my personal data from that drive.

Your cost for all this protection? Just $6.97 and US shipping is FREE! Sure, it's not a program that you'll use every day, but everyone with a computer WILL need to use it someday! For this kind of money, it's insane not to be safe. Check it out:

WOW! Best Mouse You'll Ever Own!

ONLY 99 Available!!

Sick and tired of all those pesky wires on your desktop? Me too! Well, grab this mouse today and help unclutter that rat's nest of wires! You'll wonder why you kept that old, annoying wired mouse for so long!

Here's the exciting part about this one! You know what the number one problem is with wireless mice? The stupid batteries ALWAYS die at the worst possible time! I hate that! Having a wireless mouse is fantastic, until it's late, you need to finish something up, your mouse is belly-up, and there's no "AA" batteries to be found. Well, these guys thought of that and created a backup plan - this has a retractable USB cord that you can plug in!

You read that right! Next time your batteries die, just pull out the retractable cable and plug into any free USB port and get right back at it! FINALLY - someone designed a wireless mouse with a brilliant backup plan! When you get new batteries, just retract the cord and you'll never know it's there!

With that said, the above problem is gonna be rare for you because this guy is a big-time battery saver! When this mouse is not in use, it will actually turn off, saving you tons of battery juice! Replacing the batteries will no longer be a weekly ordeal - these batteries you will you a LONG time!

In addition, this mouse uses amazing optical technology! You know what I hate about regular "ball" mice- they collect dirt and dust. Do you remember always having to dig out a Q-tip, take apart the mouse, and delicately clean out that area so it would "roll" correctly? DO you still do that?? Not with this guy - no cleaning necessary!

Now so far this mouse is sounding pretty awesome- but you gotta check this out too! This mouse has a fantastic three button design with a scroll wheel that acts as the third button! This type of design really provides the fastest, most proficient navigating ever! It's like driving a Lamborghini down the information super highway!

Plus, this mouse is extremely comfortable on your hand! You'll be able to use it for hours and never have to worry about your hand cramping or being uncomfortable! Oh, and talk about great quality! Last time we featured this, we got TONS of comments about the amazing quality of this mouse - it feels solid in your hand like it was really built to last! I like it so much I replaced my Logitech mouse with it - I absolutely love the quality and the optional cord has been a life-saver! Wait till you get your hand on it :-)

Think setting up a new mouse is going to be a pain? With this mouse you have absolutely nothing to worry about because it is truly plug and play. There is nothing to install! Just make sure the mouse has two working AA batteries, plug in the USB receiver, and you are all set! It really couldn't get more easy!

Tip of the Day

Downloading YouTube Videos

As you may recall, a few days ago, we covered downloading YouTube videos using a service called KeepVid. Well, today, I'm going to make downloading YouTube videos even easier! By using a bookmarklet, you can download videos right from YouTube, with no need to go to another Web site. The videos are saved in an MP4 format, which is perfect for iPods and Sony PSPs. I'm telling you, saving videos has never been more simple. Let's take a look and see what we've got, shall we?!

If you’re not familiar with bookmarklets, it might help to read this article before continuing with this tip.

1.) Once you have the Links bar enabled, simply drag or right click and add the following link to your Favorites:
Get YouTube Video.

2.) Next, head on over to a YouTube video of your choice. I’ll be using the Skateboarding Dog video as my example. (If you've never seen it, you can view it here).

3.) Once the video begins to play, click on the Get YouTube Video link.

4.) A download box will then appear. All you need to do is click Save.

5.) Save the file with a unique name and voila. You have a brand new video file!

Now, for those of you using Firefox, a Greasemonkey script can provide a download link directly to the video page.

1.) To install the script, visit this link and click on the Install button.

2.) When you visit a YouTube video, you’ll then see this link:

3.) Actually, all you have to do is click on the link and you'll be prompted to save the video. Cool, huh?!

Also, to add the videos to iTunes and your iPod, just follow these steps:

1.) Go to File and click on Add File to Library.

2.) Select the video and click Open. The video will then be added to your movie collection.

3.) There you have it! A complete guide to getting your favorite YouTube videos on your iPod.

Enjoy!

Today's Feature

Evernote

For this week's download, I found something for those of you who want to keep your ideas organized. The program is called Evernote and it's much more than just a program! Evernote can be installed on your computer, visited on the Web or even installed on some cell phones, like the iPhone and a few Blackberrys.

Here's how it works! When you install Evernote on your computer, you can put things you want to keep for later use on it. For example, you can write a small note using your keyboard, you can drag images, words and Web sites to it, you can drag whole Web sites to it and you can even record a voice note to it.

After doing that, Evernote will save the information for you and index it so that you can find it later. Now, here's the coolest part! Let's say you were on a friend's computer and you wanted to show them something you saved on Evernote. To do that, all you have to do is go to www.evernote.com and log in. Everything you saved to Evernote will be there. All the pictures, shortcuts and words you put on your own computer. Pretty cool, huh?!

On top of all that, if you have a supported cell phone, you can install Evernote and save items from your phone too. That way, you can take a picture with your phone and it will be organized and saved on your computer.

If you want to learn more about Evernote and sign up for a free account, you can do so here. Enjoy!

Quotiki

Quotiki is a wiki of quotes that you can tag, rate and add to as a member! To register, click on the Sign Up button at the top of the page. Then fill out the form with your name, e-mail address and a password. Next, you’ll need to check the e-mail address you provided for a confirmation letter. My letter came right away, so you shouldn’t have to wait very long.

Navigation is easy! You can start with the quotes right on the main page. You can give it a thumbs up or a thumbs down to rate it. You can filter the quotes by tags or use the search engine at the top of the page to find the quotes you’re looking for.

There's a Quote of the Day on the right hand side of the page, just above the About Quotiki area. The quote of the day when I visited was really awesome: “Life's tragedy is that we get old too soon and wise too late.” It's by Benjamin Franklin.

To add a quote to the Web site, click on the Submit button at the top of the page and then select what type of quote it is. Is it a quote, a dialogue or a chat log? Once you’ve decided (they do provide excellent examples of each), click on the Next button.

On the next page, you’re faced with an empty text box. That's where you type in your quote. Below that, you’ll find a place to type in the author, a text box for contextual information about the quote and a drop down box where you can select where the quote came from. For example, a book, document, episode, movie, etc.

When you’re finished entering all the information for your quote, click on the Submit button. If you mess something up and don't notice until you've submitted it, don’t worry! You can edit it. Click on the text of your quote and you'll be taken to your quote’s page, where you'll find an Edit option.

This is an awesome quote source, so be sure to check it out today!

Monthly Wallpaper

February Wallpaper

Here's February's wallpaper. It's all free, so enjoy!

Snowy Deer

This girl was in a group I managed to slip into. It was snowing pretty good and she was curious about me and got within eight feet for this close-up! If this isn't a February shot, I don't know what is!

Moonrise

I shot this just last month in the Valley of Fire State Park, just about an hour from Las Vegas. We were going to another spot just down the road, but couldn't resist stopping for this shot. Timing on one like this is really tough, so dumb luck came to my rescue.

Summer Stream

Here's one that's a little different. It was shot in the Smokies last summer, but instead of giving you the straight shot, I added a soft-focus/dreamy effect to it. I hope you enjoy it!
