Computer Tips [ Awesome Download For Screen Captures + The Best Function Key + Uncover Hidden Files ] 03/12/2009

Computer Tipswww.worldstart.com No, this isn't Steve. You can tell because Steve never wears a suit :-)

Quick Tips

Hidden Files

Windows is keeping something from you. It’s for your own good that Hidden Files exist, but should you ever need to access them, then this tip is for you!

In Windows XP it’s as simple as opening the folder in question and going to Tools>Folder Options. Once there, click the View tab and select the little dot next to Show Hidden Files. That oughta do it! The process for Windows Vista is a little different, however. In this case, we go to straight to the Control Panel and click Folder Options. Once again, select the View tab and select Show Hidden Files. You’ll be able to discern the Hidden Files from regular ones because they will be grayed out.

I must warn against messing about with Hidden Files, though. Most contain important system related information and should not be deleted. If you know what you’re doing, though, don’t let me stop you! :)

I hope this helps!

Finally! Affordable Anti-Virus!

Best AV We've Ever Found - $6.97!!

And It's A 3 User Pack!

Super Fast Too - Doesn't Slow Your Computer Down!

Hourly Updates!

Unlimited Tech Support!

I'm so excited! We just got an incredible deal on iolo Antivirus! There was a store closing or something and we were able to grab a bunch of excess inventory of this current title super-cheap! Wait till you see the deal below!

I just can't wait to tell you about this one! This is one of the smartest anti-virus programs we've come across!

First off, it's just an antivirus program - NOT a bunch of junk you don't need that slows down your system. It does one thing ONLY - and it does it exceptionally well - it keeps you safe from viruses! Plus it does this by using very little in system resources so your computer stays nice and fast!

Oh, and when I say it does a good job at protection, I can back up what I'm saying! This thing gets new virus updates not on just a daily basis - but it checks and can be updated HOURLY!!! Now that's protection!

As for keeping you safe from viruses, it's really got you covered! It scans your e-mail as it's downloaded so you won't get infected from there, and also monitors quietly in the background for any viruses! They aren't getting past this one!

Another really great thing about this software is that it lets you set the time YOU want it to do scans. Some programs insist on scanning as soon as you boot up the computer. Bad thing is, that's usually when you're trying to work and it slows things down miserably. This lets you set the schedule to YOUR liking! I love it!

What about support and help? Well, you're gonna love this too! This includes a full year of virus updates PLUS unlimited phone, e-mail, and web support! Most places give you some web or e-mail support, but it's very rare to actually find a company willing to do phone support as well! And unlimited phone support no less! WOW!!!!

I tell ya, if you look at everything this does and includes, it may very well be the perfect antivirus solution! It's just fantastic! I highly recommend this one - you just can't go wrong!

Oh, and the deal is sweet! This is the current version of the software and sells for $39.95 - and personally I think at that price this is a phenomenal deal. However, because of the deal we received on this, today your cost is just $9.97 and US shipping is FREE!!! How's that for amazing!

Oh, and it even gets better - this is a 3 user license! You can install it on up to THREE PCs!! For $6.97! Really!!!  WOW!!

Check it out:

http://store.worldstart.com/product.php?productid=3911

PS - Make sure you get in early on this one! It's an incredible offer and you don't want to miss out! The price on this WILL increase to 18.97 soon!!

WOW!! These went like crazy yesterday! Thank you to the hundreds and hundreds who ordered! You got yourself one amazing deal! Again, this is the absolute best software of its kind! Save yourself a bunch off the $50 retail and TONS off of lawyer fees! Grab 'em before they sell out!!

Quicken Willmaker 2008 Plus!

The Software Everyone Is Dying To Get! (Sorry Couldn't Resist)

The Ultimate Program For Creating Your Own Legal Will, Living Trust - MORE!!

Save Incredible Amounts Of Money On Legal Fees!

Make Your Own Legal Wills, Living Wills, Heath Care Directive, Powers of Attorney, Final Arrangements, and More!

Retails For $50, Amazon Sells It For $34, Barns & Noble And Office Depot Both Sell It For $50!

Your Price - Just $12.97!!! WOW!!

OK, today's title is a little different than our normal fare - but something everyone really needs. It's called Quicken's Willmaker Plus 2008 and it's a great way to make sure your wishes are followed when the time comes. I know, no one wants to think about going to the information superhighway in the sky, but everyone's time does indeed come. We all have a responsibility to make sure our loved ones don't need to go through any more grief than necessary, and this software can really help.

We all know what happens. Getting a lawyer is sometimes way too expensive, so many people are left without any type of will when the inevitable time comes. This software not only covers standard wills, but also has extensive living will documentation. When I was only 30 years old, my wife and I had a will drawn up by a lawyer, and it was a solid $600 just for a basic "who-gets-what" type of will. I can tell you that THIS is the program we use now - so much simpler to update and work with than a lawyer! Besides, makes it easy to take Uncle Ed off your will when he messes up at the family reunion :-)

This software makes creating a legal, binding, will or living will simple and extremely affordable. It includes thousands of document possibilities to suit just about every situation -- but don't worry, it's incredibly user-friendly! You'll have them finished in minutes - really! It's basically a "fill in the blanks" proposition.

Making updates is a snap too. This program is so informative and in a language everyone can understand. It basically takes you through an interview process which makes it really simple to fill out your document. Plus, if you're not sure what any of it means, the software includes an amazing guide, informative glossary, and a host of online resources. It breaks down the legalese into something all of us can understand!

To help show easy it is, here's an example. Let's say you're filling out a "Final Arrangements" document. Before you even get started, it gives you a check list - name, body donation, organ donation, burial details, person to oversee plans. Then, the column to the right tells you the purpose of each of those items. Now you know what you need and why :-)

In addition to living and standard wills, this also includes Power of Attorney documents, a legal glossary if you get stuck, and other critical estate planning forms. Everything you need in one easy to use package!

Let's face it - proper planning is something we all need to take care of for our loved ones. I've personally had a will since I was 30 years old, and it gets updated on a regular basis. To me, it just doesn't make sense not to have everything in place - I can't imagine putting my family through that. Plus, this is from Quicken, so it's not just some off the wall software that some guy wrote in his basement - this is the real deal. Wouldn't surprise me even a little if this was the software lawyers used to create legal wills and documents for their clients!

Your price is fantastic - just $12.97 and US shipping is free. Again, this retails for $50 - and when you consider all it does it's is worth every penny of that price. If you've been putting off making a will or living will, just $12.97 can get you there.

http://store.worldstart.com/product.php?productid=4955

PS - Estate planning is something we all have to do. It's not a task anyone enjoys, but at this price it's probably the least expensive way you'll ever see to get the job done. Isn't it worth $12.97 to know that your affairs will be in order when the time comes?

Q:
How do I display “My Recent Documents” in the Start menu in Windows XP? I've searched all over the place!! Is this a Vista only feature?

A:
The solution is blindingly simple, but I'll give ya credit for trying! To display your recent documents folder in Windows XP follow these steps:

1. Right click on the Start button and select Properties, or if the Start menu is already up, simply right click on any blank area and select Properties. Either way is fine!

2. From the Properties menu, select the Start Menu tab at the top and then select Customize. Click the Advanced button.

3. Under Recent Documents, check the “List my most recently opened documents” check box, then click OK until you exit the window. The next time you swing the Start Menu out My Recent Documents should be displayed!!

I hope that helps!

-Andrew

MS Office

Animation choices in PowerPoint

Do you like MS PowerPoint's animations for your shapes, pictures and text?

I don't know about you, but I like the control it gives me for revealing content as I'm ready to cover it. I know that my audience isn't busy reading every word on the slide instead of focusing on the current discussion.

So… needless to say, I use them all the time as I'm sure many of you do too.

My thought today is about how each animation is started.

If you think that each and every one takes a click to make it happen, then we need to talk.

You actually have a couple of other good choices when it comes to starting an object's animation on a PowerPoint slide.

By default animations are start with the "On Click" setting.

But, there are also the "With Previous" and "After Previous" settings to choose from.

"With Previous" will set the animation of the selected object to start at the same time as whatever animation is started with the click directly before it.

Here's a great side note: I love to use this one for the very first thing to have an animated entrance on the slide. Basically, this setting will start the object animation as soon as the transition to the slide is complete. I like it because it will allow me the animated entrance without the extra pause that the required click can cause.

"After Previous" will do exactly as it says… it will start the object's animation when the one just prior to it is completed.

You've just got to give these a try! I've been doing a tremendous amount of work in PowerPoint lately and these have truly helped to make my presentations smooth as silk!

Plugging In Your Laptop
Charging Your Cell Phone (with its wall charger)
Running A Video Game Console (Works GREAT, BTW)
Running A Printer!
Charging Batteries
Even Running A Small TV!

Give THIS A Try!! Amazing!

WOW - We landed an incredible deal on an AWESOME 75 Watt Power Inverter! What the heck is a "power inverter" you ask?

Basically, a power inverter is a device that plugs into your car's cigarette lighter and converts the 12V DC power supply into 110/120V AC power supply. In short, this unit gives you a household AC plug that you can use in your car! Basically, you can use this great little gadget to power all kinds of devices. Everyone I've talked to has come up with several uses for it (then promptly bought one :-)

Think about the possibilities - you could use this for charging laptops, DVD players, small TVs, video game consoles, and cell phones! This power inverter is a valuable accessory for both long and short trips alike. Heck, it would even be handy for recharging batteries (been there, done that - camera, iPod, MP3, etc.) - I can't think of anything you wouldn't be able to use with this!

I've had an inverter for several years, I can't imagine hitting the road without one! I've been on several cross country trips in over the last year and this is one accessory that's always plugged into my cigarette lighter! I use it constantly!

This Power Inverter also features low-voltage thermal overload protection to protect against short circuiting, overheating, and overload and can be positioned several ways to better fit different car designs. I can't find one thing I don't just love about this item! It's absolutely fantastic! Oh ya - it's also really lightweight (about 1/2 lb.) and really compact so it's easy to store when not in use or to move from one vehicle to another!

Your price on this is incredible - just $15.97 and US shipping is FREE! Power inverters are normally on the expensive side - most go for $50-$90, so this is an outstanding buy.

PS - OK, here's the deal. This is actually the second time we've tried to run these! First time, our supplier got them in, and they were swooped up before we had a chance to order! We got some this time, but these are VERY popular! We are trying to get more, but right now we have less than 100 to go around! You gotta hurry to get in on this one!

Slide Master
PowerPoint users unite! Today we have a great tip from our archives that tells all about PowerPoint's "Slide Master" and it's functions. Change your font, bullet style or background picture throughout your whole presentation. It's just that easy, but you'll have to go to the site to find out more!

The Gallery of Unfortunate Cards
Wow, what a time waster! Considering that I'm a big Star Wars fan, I found the gallery of unfortunate Star Wars costumes to be the most entertaining. That's not all, though. Browse on over to the site and get the full breadth for yourself!

Tip of the Day

Using F4

There are multiple uses for the F4 function located on the top row of your keyboard. First of all, you can use it to close any open applications. Just make sure the program you want to close is selected, press Alt+F4 and that window will automatically close. Now, if you're using one single application that has many different documents within it, press Ctrl+F4 and just that one window will close instead of the whole program.

You can also use F4 to shut down your computer. Make sure all of your programs are closed and press Alt+F4. That will bring up the "Turn off computer" box and you can proceed with the normal shut down. Pressing Alt + F4 is the same as Start, Turn off computer.

Just don't close this window!! :)

Today's Feature

Screen Capture with Jing

On Tuesday, we ran a tip on how to use the Print Screen feature on your keyboard. This tip showed how to use the Prtscn button on the keyboard to capture a screen shot then paste it to a program like MS Word or Photoshop. This tip is great if you are looking for basic function, but many of you wrote in wanting to know about more advanced print screen options.

It ends up that there are several options out there if you are looking for more than what the simple PrtScn button offers. Just a few months ago I wrote an article about a program called Screenshot Captor. This is a good program for additional features and you can check it out here. Also, almost 3 years ago, we wrote an article about a program called Gadwin Printscreen. This program has been around for quite some time, but also offers some great features for caprturing your screen. You can check out that tip here.

Even though we have already talked about 2 other print screen programs, I have a third one that will knock your socks off! This program is called Jing, and it adds some things that these others just simply can't do. Lets dive in!

First, download and install the program. You can get it here. After install, you will be asked to create an account. This is required, but free. Having the account lets you take full advantage of all of the features that Jing has to offer.

After installing the program and setting up the acount, you will see a little yellow circle at the top of your screen.

Pass your mouse over it and it will change

If you click on the left ball, this starts the capture mode. This is where the cool stuff starts! You will be given crosshairs on your screen. simply drag the mouse to select the part of the screen you want to capture. After making the selection, you can simply take a picture of that area, or take a video. Thats right! make a video!

After making the video or capturing the screen, you will have the choice to save the picture or video to your computer or to the web. Make your choice and then you will be told that it is done. Jing will automaticall make a link to your picture or video. You can just paste it into your web browser or you can view everything you have done by clicking the history button (the middle option on the yellow circle).

There are truly a ton a things that this program can do. Check it out here: http://www.jingproject.com/

Enjoy!
