Quick Tips

What the F-key? F5 through F8

In part 2 of “What the F-key?” we'll be covering Function Keys F5 through F8. Some useful ideas here for function keys, folks! Just to recap let's discuss what F-keys are used for:

Function keys have many, many uses, some of which are specific to the program that's running at the time. They're mainly used as shortcuts or in conjunction with the CTRL, ALT, and Shift keys, which I'll cover in a later article.

Continuing on, here are the basics of function keys F5 – F8.

F5Refresh key. Use this key to reload a web page or refresh your desktop. This is a good one for both the Internet (good for Ebay bid battles) and apparent computer freezes which you can read about here.

F6 Cycles the cursor from field to field in the active program. In MS Word you can use this F-key to go to the next pane or frame.

F7 – This F-key is program-specific. Experiment in different programs to see what it can do, but remember to save your work first!

F8 – This key is used to boot Windows in Safe Mode. Read about Safe Mode here.

We're almost done, everyone! Check back for the exciting conclusion of “What the F-key?”. Same Worldstart time, same Worldstart channel!

Don't Hit The Wall!!!

Amazing New Laser-Guided Parking System

Installs In Minutes! No Wiring!!

2-car-laser-02

A Way Cool Solution

To A Very Common Problem

How many of you have accidently driven into the back wall of your garage?

How many of you now have a tennis ball or some other inanimate object hanging from the ceiling?

How many of you now don't allow your spouse, teenager (or who ever the "guilty culprit" may be) park the car in the gararge? (Just checking!)

But in all seriousness, this is a really creative answer to that age-old problem of parking the ol' car in the garage!

If you think about it, it's a problem of judging distance. "O.K., how many feet do I have to go before I hit the wall?" You've probably asked yourself that question a million times. (I know I have!)

When we got these in, I just had to check this out. (Sounded a little too good to be true, if you know what I mean!) But I can tell ya, IT REALLY DOES WORK...Like a Charm!!!

You see, if you think about it, this whole thing is a matter of driving up far enough so that the rear of your car is completely inside the garage - but not too far so that you hit the garage wall. (Hmm...sounds like that could be a new software game...what do you think?)

Anyway, this solves the problem...ONCE AND FOR ALL!!!

How it works is pretty simple: When your car enters the garage, this little "high-tech" device automatically activates and a red laser beam shines down and guides you. You then simply drive up until the red beam of light shines on the area of your car that you pre-determined to be the "stop-point"!!!

Sound complicated? Well, it's not! Easy, on-step installation. There's not even any wiring to worry about! (Three screws go in the ceiling...that's it!)

You can us the AC cord (included) and plug it into the outlet with your garage door opener OR use a 9-volt battery...the choice is yours!

And, you can set this for One or Two cars!

All I can say is that this will save you a lot of hassle AND clean up the look of your garage! (no more tennis balls hanging from the ceiling!!)

2-car-laser-02.jpg

Amazon has this for a painful $47.80! Your cost from us is just $19.97! And U.S. shipping is FREEE!

https://store.worldstart.com/product.php?productid=5016

P.S. - You know...this is probably the easiest way you'll ever find to, "Clean up the garage"!! And who knows...it might even improve the value of your home if you're trying to sell it! Get one now while we still have some in stock!

Special Offer!

We've Sent Men To The Moon...

'Bout Time Someone Finally Figured Out How To Make

Earphones That Sound Great...

Bendy-z

And That Are ACTUALLY Comfortable To Wear!

Music To Your Ears!

The Amazing Sound Of Headphones With The Light-Weight Comfort of Ear-Buds

If you've ever tried to listen music with earphones (or "earbuds" as they're often called) you probably have had the same gripes that I've had with 'em. Yeah, they're lightweight but the trouble is you have to "balance" them in your ear canal. And then they usually fall out, so you have to jam 'em so far into your ear that they're REALLY uncomfortable. And then you also have to watch the volume OR ELSE YOU GET BLASTED AWAY!!! So, I had just resigned myself to the fact that they were just more trouble than they were worth.

Well...we found the solution! We've just come across a NICE set that sound GREAT (YES...they're STEREO! ) and are VERY comfortable. (In fact, I'm wearing 'em right now as I'm writing this!)

Let's face it, if earphones aren't comfortable, who cares how they sound, cuz you'll never wear 'em to ever find out! Well, these stream-lined earphones really deliver not only on great sound but comfort too!

Here's why these "Stereo Earphones" work:

First off, each earpiece fits over and behind your ear, so they stay out of the way. And that piece is bendable so you can adjust it to your own comfort level! (Makes a huge difference!)

The other thing I like about these is that the earpiece is wrapped in a thin layer of rubber-neoprene so that makes 'em very comfortable as well. So when you place the earpiece in your ear it stays there...comfortably, and doesn't fall out! And I noticed that by being able to position the earpiece itself, that also explains why the sound is so good!

These are all small points but they're important. And when you point them all together, you have a really great set of earphones that you can take where ever you go! In fact, you can use these at your computer desk if you're working on your computer late at night or early in the morning and you need to keep the sound down.

And the cord is long enough (4 foot) without being too long so as to get tangled and in the way. (Another small point but something I've noticed as a problem with other earphones I've tried!)

And in case you were wonderin', this is the common plug (3.5 mm) that fits into the front and your computer and most other audio devices, like portable radios, laptops, cd /dvd/mp3 players, iPods etc.

Do NOT let the low price fool you on this. We just happened to get a great deal on these so we're passin' along the savings! Believe it or not, today these are just $8.97 and shipping in the US is FREE!

http://store.worldstart.com/product.php?productid=5013

P.S. - At this price, might want to consider picking up 2 or three of these so you have one at your computer, one in the car and one you can stick in your pocket or purse for walks or bike rides!

Warning - This price is set to increase soon! Don't pay $14.97 for 'em later - grab 'em today!!

New Special!

4GB Flash Drive Promotion!

WARNING!! - Dirt Cheap Price Can Change At ANY Time!!

Run To The Site For Our Lowest Price Ever On A 4GB Flash Drive

All I can say is WOW! Did we score a deal for you! One of our suppliers gave us an absolutely mind-blowing deal on some 4GB PQI Flash Drives! We've had some fantastic deals on flash drives in the past, but this has got to be the best ever! We're talking a whoppin' 4 GB worth of storage for just $12.97!! These have a retail of $40 - and most big chain stores sell them for that kind of money all day long!

But there is a catch -

The promotion is only for a limited time - and we don't know when it will end! Could be this morning, could be next week. Once our cost goes up, your cost will go up! It's something new they're trying, so we decided to play along! My advice? If you want an amazing, $40 4GB flash drive for $12.97, I'd high-tail it on over to the site as soon as you read this!! Get your orders in at $12.97 while you can!!

We all know flash drives are probably the best invention since the internet, but when you think about you can store on these 4GB drives, it's really somethin'! Think about this - these can hold the same amount of data as not 1, not 3, but 6 - count 'em 6 - CD-ROMS! Heck, we're talking enough storage for 600 12MP images from your digital camera, 1000 MP3s, or 80,000 typical office documents! That's a lot of data!!

PLUS it's small and easy to take along - this thing isn't even as long as your index finger! Oh, and get this - if you buy several (and at this price you probably should), you can actually stack & snap them together! The little hole is also ideal for hooking onto a keychain - a great way to keep your important data with you all the time!

I don't know about you, but I can't live without my flash drives! I've used them for the typical "taking documents to the office" routine, but there's a TON of other uses too! Stick MP3s on 'em and listen to your favorite songs at work. Oh, and have you seen some of the newer car radios? They have USB plugs on 'em so you can take a flash drives loaded with MP3s and play it right in your car! Oh, and this is a really great way to take photos over to show off to family and friends! Just drag & drop your photos to it and plug it into any computer! Seems like I come up with new uses for these things all the time - you gotta grab 'em when the price is low like this - you know you're gonna need one soon!

OH, almost forgot - these are USB 2.0 drives so yeah, they're wicked fast! No sitting around staring at progress bars while you copy!

Again, these are just $12.97 and US Shipping is FREE! For that kind of money, better grab a couple! Please note - this was a special promotion from one of our suppliers and the price on these will increase the second they decide to end the promo! Grab yours ASAP - before the price goes back up!

Oh, and you even get to choose the color!

Red:

Blue:
http://store.worldstart.com/product.php?productid=4963

Silver:
http://store.worldstart.com/product.php?productid=4964

PS - $12.97 is our best price ever on 4GB flash drives of any kind - and these are some of the best quality available! Don't miss out, as soon as our supplier raises our price, we're rasing the price (and that could even be sometime today)!

Computers 101

Q:
I was installing a program and it told me disable my anti-virus software. How do I do that?

A:
On the right side of your taskbar is your system tray . In it you can see the programs that are currently running.

Move your cursor over an icon and you should get a little text line telling you what the program is.

Right mouse click your anti-virus icon and you will be given the option to disable.

A red X should appear over the icon in the system tray.

When you are done installing the software, just right click your anti-virus icon again and choose "enable".

BONUS TIP: You can also use this procedure to disable or shut down any programs running in your system tray. This comes in handy especially when you need extra memory to burn a CD or DVD.

MS Office

Wait! That's Not What I Want!

Have you ever found yourself frustrated with the AutoCorrect feature found in the MS Office suite programs?

Yeah, I'm sure you have.

Most of the time, they're helpful little changes in spelling or things like capitalization and we're thankful to have the program looking out for us.

But, what about the times when AutoCorrect is making changes that we really don't want or need?

Sometimes it's enough to make a person want to turn the AutoCorrect features off entirely.

Oh, but wait, don't panic and don't do anything that drastic just yet. (After all, there are a lot of helpful AutoCorrect things happening all the time. You'd really miss them if they were gone).

The next time AutoCorrect makes a change you don't want, stop where you are and Undo it.

Yes, I said undo. Your choices are to click the Undo button in the Standard toolbar, use Ctrl + Z or to select the word with the changes and use the AutoCorrect Options menu that opens to choose Undo.

Since the AutoCorrect changes are actions that happened after your information was entered, an immediate Undo will remove the correction and send you happily on your way!

More Cool Stuff

This will make your Decorator Green With Envy!

So MANY people are deciding to stay put and Remodel and Redecorate their existing homes instead of selling....

If that's YOU or if you just want an Interior "Make Over"....

Home Design 6

YOU are going to LOVE this program!!!

It's not only a lot of fun and will save you a ton of moolah, but it's really a blast to use! See what I mean...

When you go to the help menu, you definitely have a lot of help to choose from!

This whole program has a bunch of videos, so it's not surprising that there's a "Video Tutorials Help Section" ! (Kind of reminds you of Disney, doesn't it?)

Home Design1

Or you can go with the "On-Line Manual" if you want. Either way, pretty darn complete, as you can see! (I like to jump to the Help Menus to see what I'm in for and what I can do if I get stuck!)

Home Design2

When you go to the "Main Menu" (pictured below) when you hover your mouse over each of these topics, a voice reads the labels to you! Not a huge point, but it leads you to expect a lot from this program and believe me...it does NOT disappoint!

Next, when you click on one of the menu buttons, a video tutorial automatically starts up and it tells you what to expect and what to do next! (I don't know about you, but I HATE surprises...especially if I'm in uncharted territory or not sure of what I'm doing!)

Gettin' Down To Some SERIOUS Design Stuff!

This program is easy to use for a couple reasons. First of all, a Video Tutorial opens up whenever you get to a new screen, so you're not scratching your head trying to figure out what to do next! (You can turn that feature off but I let it run. Don't know about you but heck, I'll take all the help I can get!!!)

The other thing that makes this program so simple is it's all based on the ol' "Drag and Drop"! So chances are if you can "point 'n click" you're already half way there! And if you do need some help...Yep, you guessed it! There's a video that'll walk you thru it! And everything is laid out for you every step of the way!

HomeDesign5

You can start with a blank page or import a scanned image or even a photo you took! (How many times have you seen a photo in a magazine and wanted to copy that design? Heh, heh...well, there you go!) When you're finished you can always save your project and return to it later. Maybe you want to work on one room, then in the middle of that go on to another, whatever! Just "Save" it and come back to it later!

You can customize everything in each room by, yep, "Point, Click and Drag". You can set the size of the "interior elements", everything from the furniture, wallpaper, blinds...you name it! (And you thought you had to pay Big Bucks to get great Interior Design info!)

Home Design3

Here's a screenshot of the living room! (By the way...how do you like my chair? Sorry...you're gonna have to get your own!)

Home Design4

Yep..."Feature packed and user friendly", this thing's got my name ALL OVER IT! This could be what you're looking for, too! This retails for $29.99, which is an outstanding deal for a program of this caliber. However - you get an even better deal! We're talkin' just $7.97 and US Shipping is FREE! Better get to the site before these sell out!

P.S. - If you don't need it now, you'll probably need it soon. Might as well grab one while we've got 'em at this low price!

Tip of the Day

Wild Cards

When doing a search you can use an asterisk (*) in place of letters or numbers. This is called a "Wild Card" and it really comes in handy.

Let's say you're looking for a file that starts with "ran" but aren't sure what the rest of the name is. Just type in...

ran*

All files of any type that begin with "ran" will be found such as "randy.doc" or "rand-mcnally.exe".

Let's say you know that your file is a Word doc. Then type in "ran*.doc".

What if you're just not sure of the single character in a file name? Then use a Question Mark wild card...

ran?.doc

You could end up with "rant.doc", "rank.doc" or "ran1.doc" but not "randy.doc"

This not only works with Search/Find in Windows, but on many Internet search engines as well.

Today's Feature
Turn your photos into a Calendar

Have you ever wanted to turn your photos into a nice looking calendar for display? Or perhaps to give to friends and family as a gift? Well, this is all possible with some simple steps. Read on and find out how you can do this. It's really quite a simple procedure - anyone can do it within one or two hours.

1. Select Good Photos
The first step in turning your photos into a calendar format is to select some good candidate photos. The trick is to select your favorite 12 to 15 photos and place them into a suitable folder. Usually, for such a selection you can go by themes, e.g. children, famous landmarks or even seasonal photos like winter or summer landscapes.

2. Clean Up Pictures
Once you've selected the photos, the next step is to have them cleaned up. Remove any dirt or noise from the photos using your favorite paint program. If need be, you can also apply special effects to the photos using filters like sepia for a more interesting look.

3. Ensure Photos Are Large Enough
You then need to make sure that the photos you selected are large enough. Typically, if you intend to produce 8x10 inch photos, you need to have 1600 x 1200 pixels of resolution. I'd say that a 3 megapixel camera or above will be more than enough to produce such shots.

4. Upload to Photo Sharing Site
The next step is to then upload those selected and cleaned up photos into a good photo sharing site. A good one is Smugmug which has options for printing photos into calendars. Usually the price of the calendar is not much, and you can choose to have it shipped to an address of your choice.

And that's it! Now you know how to select photos and create a calendar for sharing with friends and family. A calendar with nice, memorable photos makes a perfect gift. So do try this idea out the next time you're out of gift ideas. Good luck!
