Quick Tips

MySpace Music

Are you among the many who have a MySpace profile? I know there has been a lot of controversy over the popular social networking Web site since it first started, but it really is a great way to keep in touch with long lost friends or distant family members. At least that's what I use it for and I absolutely love it. I've been able to reconnect with so many people that I've lost touch with, it's just amazing!

Well, if you do have a MySpace profile, what does yours look like? Do you have a special background or layout for yours? Have you added any graphics or other images to yours? And I guess what I'm really getting at, do you have any music on your profile? If not, would you like to find out how you can change that? It's really easy to do, so just follow along with me! To get started, log in to your MySpace account and click on the link beside your picture that says "Edit Profile."

Once you're there, go along the top of the page and click on the Music link. Next, look for the search box, type in the artist's name for the song you want to add and then hit the Music Search button. If the artist you're looking for has a MySpace profile, you'll see it in your results. When you find it, just click on their name and you'll be taken to their profile. Once that comes up, look for the music box on their page. Find the title of the song you want to add and then click on the Add link. Another box will then come up and you can choose to add it to an existing playlist or create a new one. When you're done, just click OK and you can then go and listen to your song right from your profile. Plus, all of your friends will hear the song when they visit your page. How cool is that? Check it out today!

And MORE!!

And All WITHOUT A Computer!

This Is Going To Make Life SOOOO Much Easier!

PLUS Save 74% By Getting It From US Today!!! WOW!!

WOW!! These are sellin' like virtual hotcakes! Hundreds and hundreds of these fantastic gadgets just flew out the door yesterday- THANK YOU to everyone who ordered! If you've been missin' out, well, stop that! You've just gotta grab one of these too!

I'm so excited! We have an absolutely amazing deal on a little gadget from Memorex called a TravelSync that's going to change the way you deal with your files forever! This ingenious little gadget allows you to effortlessly transfer data from one USB device to another - and get this - you do it without any computer involved! Really!

Why is this so cool? Why am I so excited? Why are you gonna love this? Let's consider a few scenarios that happen all the time!

First, have you ever ran out of memory on your digital camera's card? Sure, everyone's taken that train to frustrationville! Wouldn't be fantastic if you could simply transfer your pictures to a USB flash drive and empty that card without the hassle of getting a computer out? Am I crazy? Nope -  With this handy gadget, you just plug your camera in on one side, then stick in a flash drive on the other side!  Press a button and your images are magically transferred right from your camera to the flash drive - no computer necessary! Then, just clear your card and keep on shooting (you can even have this device clear your card after you're done if you like!)!

Memorex TravelSync Portable Transfer Device

Ooohh, yeah - here's one that happens ALL the time - and we've all been there! Have you ever needed a copy of a file someone else has? You know, maybe you just need a copy of a document, maybe you want a quick copy of a photo, maybe a favorite song - whatever. It may be on a friend's flash drive, camera, MP3 player - you name it, but you want that file!

Well, with this you just plug in the device that has the file on one side (could be a flash drive camera, external HD, memory card, ect) then select the file you want from the list. Next, plug in your flash drive (or whatever USB storage you prefer) into the other side and a couple button presses later you have the file! Seriously - No booting up the computer, no opening up the flash drive, no copying the file over to the desktop, no opening up the other flash drive, no copying to the new flash drive, no shutting down! Once you go the direct copy route with this little guy, you'll never go back!!

OK, want another example? What about this - do you have a external hard drive for backups or extra storage? With this, you could actually transfer your photos, files, music, ect directly to your hard drive from your camera (flash drive, memory card, MP3 player) without ever booting up your computer! Talk about a time saver (and a brilliant way to do quick backups)!

Oh, and what if you come home from a trip with a bunch of memory cards in your pocket you want to backup to that same external HD? Don't mess with your computer - just plug a memory card reader into one side of your TravelSync and your HD into the other! Again, just a button press or two and your files are all transferred from your card reader to the external HD! Couldn't be easier! This would be just spectacular if you're on the road and want to quickly backup those once-in-a-lifetime trip photos on a portable HD!!

It's not just for photos either! Got MP3s? Then you'll LOVE this! You want to transfer the music on your MP3 player to another MP3 player? Guess what? This can transfer your files with no computer required! WAIT! Want to put your MP3s on a flash drive, external HD, or memory card? Yup, you guessed it - this is your go to device!

Here's The Bottom Line - If you have USB devices that store data (memory cards, flash drives, digital cameras, MP3 players, external hard drives, ect) this can transfer that data from one device to another with NO computer necessary! This is such an ingenious idea! I don't know how many times I just needed a copy of a file and had to mess around with my computer to do all the copying! This makes it easy!

PLUS, it's incredibly easy to use! Most operations are just a couple button pushes away from being done! Even lets you copy everything or selected files - and the LCD screen makes it simple!

This is really one of those devices that once you have it, you'll wonder how you lived without it!

How much do these go for?  You won't believe your price, but first I gotta tell you "their" prices! Get this - right this second Memorex has these listed on their site for $50 and Amazon is at $48.99! Looking around, I couldn't find ANYONE less than $41 for these things - and pretty much everyone was charging shipping on top of it! And frankly, it's really worth the money they're asking too - it's that good. But....

Your cost is absolutely unbelievable! We're talking just $12.97 and US shipping is FREE! That's not a typo - $12.97 gets you this absolutely amazing, incredibly handy $50 device!! RUN to the site and get this while you can! One of the handiest gadgets we've ever offered!

http://store.worldstart.com/product.php?productid=4890

PS - As you can imagine, quantities on this are limited and we're thinking that, yeah, these are gonna sell pretty quick! Get to the site before they gone - you don't want to WISH you had one later!

Computers 101

Q:
When I use tabbed browsing in Firefox, I am sometimes interrupted by other applications. How can I make that stop? Please help me!

A:
That's a good question and fortunately, you're in luck, because I have just the right suggestion for you. I like using Firefox myself and I am a big fan of the tabbed browsing. To be honest with you, ever since I started using the tabbed browsing option, I've been having the same problem with my applications. So, lately, I have been wondering the same exact thing myself. After I read this question, I got to looking around and I found some really good news. I do believe all you Firefox users out there will be very interested in this as well, so let's get started!

Do you like to multitask when you're using your computer? For example, maybe you're in the middle of having an IM conversation with a friend, while you're checking your e-mail, while you're checking the sports schedule for this week, while you're catching up on the day's news and while you're printing out a Word document. Wow, that's a lot to be doing all at one time, but if you're really good at multitasking, it's possible to do. So, when you're in the middle of everything else, how annoying is it when some other application interrupts you?!

It could be anything. A link from the news site you're on gets bumped and it opens, overtaking the other page you had up on your screen. Or, how about a link opening from an e-mail you wanted to look at later? No matter what it is, it's frustrating! So, how can you stop that from happening? Well, one of the great things about Firefox is its settings. Firefox makes it so easy to change things around. All you really need to do is choose a new option for the tabbed browsing feature.

To do that, go to Tools, Options and click on the Advanced icon. Look under the Tabbed Browsing section and just change your preference for the way those other links get opened. You can either have them opened in a new window, in a new tab in the most recent window or in the most recent tab/window (if you like it that way). Once you choose, click OK and from now on, those pesky little links will open the way you want them to!

Okay, that takes care of that, but before I go, I want to share a couple other little tabbed browsing tricks with you. With tabbed browsing becoming more and more popular everyday, surfing the Internet has never been easier. Well, believe it or not, but I'm here to make it even better!

1.) Use Ctrl + Tab to toggle back and forth between your tabbed windows.

2.) Use Ctrl + F4 to close the most recent tab you've been using.

3.) Use Alt + F4 to close a browser window.

4.) Use Ctrl + T to open a brand new tab.

All of those can be used in any Firefox version, as well as, Internet Explorer 7.

Enjoy your, now new and improved, tabbed browsing experience!

MS Office

Bits and Pieces

Did you know you can choose to format only part of what's in an MS Excel cell?

Maybe you have some text in a cell and you need to bold a couple of words. Or, perhaps a different font style or size is required for just a portion of the cell's contents.

Either way, what do you do?

Can it even be done?

The answer you're looking for is yes, right? Well, you're in luck, because it can be done and it's much easier than you may think.

If you simply select a cell and make formatting changes, they will apply to everything in the cell, so it's going to take just a little bit more than that.

You'll either need to double click on the cell to get the cursor into the cell contents for editing or you can select the cell and then click into the formula bar for editing.

Once you've got a cursor within the cell contents, highlight exactly the portion you need to format.

With your partial contents highlighted, you can make formatting changes as usual. You can use the formatting options on the toolbars/ribbon or use the Format menu, Format Cells choice (Ctrl + 1). Excel 2007 users can get to the Format Cells dialogue window with either the Ctrl + 1 shortcut or by clicking on the down arrow in the bottom right hand corner of the Font, Alignment or Number sections under the Home tab on the ribbon.

Now, I'm sure a few of you are thinking "Format Cells? I thought the idea was to format only part of the cell." Don't worry! In this situation, the Format Cells window changes will only apply to the highlighted contents, not the whole cell.

That's all there is to it!

The trick is to highlight only the parts to be changed and you will soon be formatting only the "bits and pieces" of your cell contents!

Tip of the Day

iTunes Plus

I’ve always been a fan of iTunes, but one downfall of the iTunes Store is the licensing restrictions placed on the music (Digital Rights Management or DRM) that stops you from using your music in various ways. I don’t know about you, but where I live, it’s illegal to try to get around the DRM rules. So, when Apple announced a new service in the iTunes Store, I was really happy! Most iTunes music downloads now come with iTunes Plus, which is higher quality and no DRM. If you're interested in learning more about that, keep reading. I'll tell you how you can get new music with iTunes Plus and even upgrade your old tunes. Let's go!

Buying New Songs with iTunes Plus

iTunes Plus is included by default on most songs in all iTunes Stores (U.S., U.K., etc.), so all you have to do is download! You’ll know if the song is iTunes Plus if there’s a plus sign (+) next to the song's price.

Upgrading Your Old Songs

Unfortunately, if you bought songs before iTunes Plus was introduced and you want to remove the DRM restrictions from them, you have to pay a fee of $0.30 per song. If you'd still like to do that though, here's how:

1.) Go to the iTunes Store homepage, scroll down until you see the iTunes Plus ad and then click on it.

2.) You should see all of your non-iTunes Plus songs and the option to buy an upgrade to iTunes Plus. If you want to do that, simply click on the Buy button.

And you’re done! Now, all you have to do is sit back and wait for the downloads to finish. Enjoy!

netRocket

Finally! A Web site that lets you store all of your bookmarks in one place and is 100 percent free. It is really easy to get started with too. Just click on Create Account beneath the username field. You do need an account, because it will keep track of all your bookmarks, allowing you to access them from anywhere.

To register, just fill in the fields: Username, E-mail Address, Password, Security Question (this is a drop down box), Answer and Time Zone. Then just agree to their terms and conditions and click on Register. There’s nothing to confirm, so you can get started right away!

After you’ve registered, they will start you off by having you get netRocket buttons for your favorite browser. Right now, I’m a fan of Opera, so I chose that one. Once you’ve selected your browser, you'll get a browser specific installation guide to get your netRocket button installed. Just follow the instructions to get it all set up.

If you run into any snags, check out the Rocket Manual link at the top of the page. You'll find great tips on how to get the most out of netRocket there as well!

This site is great for me, because with all the sites I research, I can schedule reminders for myself to go back and look at something I didn’t really have time to check out at the time. That way, I won’t forget to investigate what could be a really cool site. I think the scheduling feature is probably my favorite on netRocket!

Another nice feature is being able to label the sites I bookmark with tags. With that, if I’m looking for a specific kind of site, I can just click on the tag and browse through my bookmarks that fall into that category. An example of tag categories in my links would be: Music, Art and Funny.

I hope you all get as much use out of this site as I already have!

However I have given the authors full credit and will not remove their site links because you deserve to see where it comes from and they deserve to get credit for what they have written. Your use of this site is simply for educational purposes. For more computer-related help go to: CPEDLEY.COM for free software, advice and tips on low cost products which are very helpful.
