It’s the first decline since comScore started tracking sales in 2001. But there were some winners. Apple, Amazon and Wal-Mart all saw more traffic. Google pushes Chrome, Firefox Google is telling Gmail users to dump Internet Explorer 6. A notice on its site promises faster Gmail for Firefox and Chrome users. Want to try Google’s Chrome browser? Get it free on my site! Wikipedia raises serious cash Wikipedia’s annual fund-raising drive is beating the economic crisis. Last year, the site raised $1.5 million. This year, it has collected $5.5 million. The site eschews advertising in favor of donations. Consumerist.com has a buyer Consumers Union is buying Consumerist.com. Consumers Union owns Consumer Reports. Consumerist, formerly owned by Gawker, offers consumer tips. Sounds like a good match! Software helps hospitals track infections Pennsylvania hospitals are going high-tech to track infection outbreaks. Computer software helps spot trends in the hospital as a whole. Traditional methods were more limited in scope. Microsoft downplays spoofing threat Researchers have found a way to spoof digital certificates protecting Web sites. Microsoft is downplaying the threat. Key information enabling the spoofing has not been published. China convicts 11 in counterfeiting case China has convicted 11 people for counterfeiting Microsoft software. They face 1½ to 6½ years in prison. These are China’s stiffest sentences ever in this type of counterfeiting case. Games for charities Good Egg Studios is linking video games to charity. Players face GoodQuest challenges.
