| A Timeless Question Answered Throughout the course of Windows history, one process has always stood out to me the most. It runs silently in your task manager, calmly taking up memory with little explanation as to what it does. Of course, I'm speaking of rundll32.exe. In fact, you may have seen it crop up a time or two when a program crashes, but other than that, it's just something that is “there”. So what is it, exactly? Well, Rundll32 is actually a medium for which other DLL files go through. Think of it like a baseball pitching machine, and the DLL files are the baseballs. Since there is no way to directly launch a DLL file by itself, Windows needs an application to do this. That's where rundll32.exe comes in. It launches functionality stored within 32 bit DLL files, thus the name, “run dll 32”. Be warned, however, as malicious programs like spyware can run under the same name! Keep your virus scanning software up to date, and run weekly spyware checks! Here's another feature I liked called, "Virtual Reality" technology lets you move specific anatomical models to view them from a a variety of angles and perspectives. This is one of the 3-D models. Right below the model there's a section with some text that are detailed illustrations you can click on. (Again, I had to make these screen shots small so that I could include them here. Q: A: If you have installed screen saver collections from a disk or the web, you'll recover more space if you uninstall the screen saver programs rather than just delete the files. XP users, go to the Start menu, go to My Computer, and select the Control Panel. Click Add/Remove Programs. You'll have to find the name of the screen saver program in the list. If it has an Uninstall option for the whole collection, use that. If it doesn't, Change/Remove the screen saver program. For screen savers that weren't installed as part of a collection, go to the Start Menu, My Computer, and choose your main drive (usually your C: drive). The contents of your C: drive will appear in a new window. Click the Search icon in the toolbar and select All Files and Folders. In the box labeled All or part of the file name, type in: Enter. Do you know that you don't have to settle for the default shape of your WordArt text? It's definitely within your control and just a quick couple of clicks away. With that, you can easily change your favorite WordArt into different shapes, arcs, banners, etc. It will take you longer to decide on a new shape than it will to actually make the change. Interested? Good! Then let's take a look. So, you've already got the WordArt created and you're ready to change its shape. If you're using an older version of MS Office then you need to select the WordArt object and go to the WordArt toolbar that appears. You're looking for the WordArt Shape button. Click it. Moving on to those using a 2007 MS Office program: You too need to select the WordArt object. This will display the WordArt Tools Design tab on the Ribbon. In the WordArt Styles section you'll find the Change Shape button - click it. Regardless of your program version, at this point you should be looking at a palette with your WordArt shape choices. Simply pick a shape from the palette and then sit back and watch the transformation begin. Your WordArt will instantly transform to your requested shape. Moving files is easy (just use a CD or flash drive), but moving software is always a problem. First off, trying to move most programs by yourself is all but impossible. Sure, the main program might be under your Program Files folder, but during setup, it probably installed lots of DLL files under your Windows System directory, registered those same files with Windows, maybe it placed shortcuts, added startup items, dropped in templates - well, you get the idea. When most software is installed, you get components and pieces of the software scattered all over your hard drive. Manually finding every part and putting it back on a new computer, placed where it should be and registered with Windows is almost impossible. Of course, you could sit in front of your computer for hours on end reinstalling all the software that was on your old PC, but talk about a hassle. Finding all the CDs, locating all the serial numbers, downloading updates and sitting around all day just isn't my idea of fun. Besides, I know for a fact that I personally have several programs on my computer right now where the original install CD has been lost! The first step was to install the software on both PCs - easy enough. Then you attach them with the included USB link cable (just plug it into each PCs USB port). Again, so far, so good. At this point, we were ready for some decisions. First you have the option to exclude files - say you don't want it to transfer .Tiff files for some reason. Just tell the software not to transfer those We wanted all the data files, so we left this alone. Then it asks you what folders you want to transfer over. This is mostly for your data files, so we left the checkmarks in for all the folders that had data. Next, and this was the cool part, the software scans the old computer and finds ALL the software that has been installed. It gives you a list with little check boxes so you can select only the programs you want to transfer to the new machine! Now that's slick! I don't know about you, but I have loads of programs on my PC that I never use but haven't bothered to uninstall, so being able to select only the programs I want to transfer is great! April found she only needed about half of the stuff she had on her old computer transferred, so she unchecked everything else. Oh, and it even tells you when you already have the same software on your new PC (this program will not overwrite existing files, so you don't need to worry about data loss). After all the selecting is done, you simply leave the computer to do its thing. The software will transfer all your files and programs automatically! Depending on how fast your computers are, and how much data you're moving, this can take some time. So, I recommend doing this before you go to bed. When you wake up in the morning, your new computer will be all set to go with all your old software and files on it! That's what we did with April's, and it was just awesome how well it worked. All the programs that we transferred worked perfectly on the new computer - no problems at all - not one, zilch. This software really does the job!! It's awesome! I'm planning on a new PC sometime next year, but I've been dreading all the reinstalls that go with it. My current PC is something like 5 years old, so I have a HUGE amount of software and data on it. It would take me weeks to get a new PC to the way I like it. After you’ve selected the effect you want, you’ll need to make some decisions. What size do you want your avatar, the default is 130 but some places only allow avatars to 100. You can also disable animation – this is very useful for the animated frames. Next you can set the number of frames the animation has, and how fast or slow you want the animation to go. Now either save it to your hard drive or share it with the buttons below the options you were just editing.
